This session was recorded during KEXP’s live from Argentina programming and features 3 songs from Bandalos Chinos’ 2022 record, ‘El Big Blue,’ 2 from 2018's ‘BACH,’ and their single with Adanowsky, “Departamento.” They’ve also released the live albums, ‘Feliz Navibach’ 1 and 2, available on streaming services.     On the show this time, it’s the minimalist-no-rubbish storytelling of singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin. The Aussie songwriter Julia Jacklin composes thoughtful lyrics and spacious arrangements, which in combination with her fresh harmonic choices make for a rewarding listening experience. Her latest album Pre-Pleasure is named for the state we all exist in - the moment right before a mythical state -  where we have arrived, we have done the work, and we can now live in the state of “pleasure.”  Problem is - that kind of work is never done, so we remain in this state - pre-pleasure, in perpetuity.  This episode features 3 songs from the new record, one from a Sub Pop Singles Club release, and a bonus from her 2019 in-studio, the epic “Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You” from the album “Crushing.”  Both are available from the Polyvinyl Record Company.     On the show this time, it’s the inclusionary joy of London’s Ibibio Sound Machine. Their latest album, ‘Electricity,’ is available on Merge Records. This 8-member multicultural band put out their latest album ‘Electricity’ in March of 2022. Blending elements of West African funk and electro-post-punk, it was produced by saxophonist Max Grunhard in collaboration with Hot Chip. The record highlights singer Eno Williams' adamant vocals, and expands the band's sound - it’s all bangers, ready for the club. This performance features the first 4 songs from the album, though in a different order. For their most recent in-studio, recorded over the summer, Martsch came in tow with his current three-piece lineup including Prism Bitch’s Teresa Esguerra on drums and Melanie Radford of Blood Lemon on bass.  Troy Nelson details the history of some of the tools Built To Spill uses to create their unique tone and Cheryl Waters chats with Martsch about how the new lineup has inspired him and affected the sound of their live shows.
