There’s a bit of a hiccup in our schedule so it’s time for another round of [R]OHOTMU but at least it fits in with the current Captain America story we are working with.This week, we find out what the deal is with professional wrestler/super-villain LETHA. As it turns out, Letha broke into the business via a sort of Fabulous Moolah operation and ends up in Rikers because of some mark fan at Roxxon using her to rough up Project Pegasus. After that, she has to contend with Dazzler while in the slammer like some sort of 1970s prison exploitation movie. And then on top of all THAT, she ends up getting murdered in Ohio. Captain America #318 (1986)It’s true — we have now entered Captain America’s Guy Fieri phase as he travels the USA, not for “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” but more “Diners, Drive-Ins and CRIMES!” He’s putzing around in a windowless van like he’s in BLACK PHONE or something, showing off his Wakandan road technology. He runs into Blue Streak, the roller-skate based villain that goes it alone and changes outfits quicker than David Spade in that airplane bathroom in TOMMY BOY. Unfortunately for Blue Streak, it is 1986 and he’s in a Captain America comic so he’s soon to depart this mortal coil. Just ask Death Adder. For some reason, Marvel decided to give this guy a carbon copy of Superman’s origin, exploding planets and what not. He’s also been adopted by Namorita, press-slammed Man-Thing and gotten up close and personal with the Cosmic Cube. Saga of the Swamp Thing #6 (1982)The SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING comes to an end as we finally make it to the Plague Ship, where Swampy encounters a frilly tentacle alien. It gets even wilder when a masquerade ball turns into a cyclops gathering at the stroke of midnight. He starts out in Transylvania but Teddy Roosevelt runs him out of town. Then it is off to NYC (?) but since Surfer is practically nude, all they want to do is throw him in jail. Maybe warning the planet about the invading force of invisible reptilian aliens will endear him to us. Silver Surfer #1 (1968)So, ok, this is a REALLY GOOD comic book and not the worst of our collection BUT there is a lot to pick apart and make fun of because, my goodness, is Silver Surfer a dramatic boy! Join us as we talk about the Surfer’s first ongoing book where we learn about how extra he was as young Norrin Radd on Zenn-La. Dude was SO BORED on a planet full of peace and art and prosperity. He wanted to fly around and look under rocks that he shouldn’t just because HE didn’t earn it. Brother — take up knitting or something. Thank goodness for Galactus swinging by to eat their planet. We also got annoyed fish, battling Yetis, knowledge being beamed right into the skull and Shalla-Bal attempting to chokeslam herself out of grief.
