  • AGP#070 – "Ai City" Doesn't Meet the Password Requirements

    23/12/2016

Upon request from the Anime World Order Podcast, Evan and David decided to watch the 1986 anime film Ai City, which is a tremendous mess of 1980s anime tropes and unintelligible storytelling. And to help with the brain-melting task of interpreting Ai City, they brought along their college buddy Stephen. For better or for worse, this podcast accurately reflects the experience of sitting in a dorm room with the three of us talking about an awful ’80s anime. Before we get into Ai City, though, we discuss Fate: Grand Order, Dishonored, and Drifters. And in the questions segment, Evan gives tips on how to learn more about animation technique in anime. Topics include: being eaten alive by rats in your own bathroom, psychic power plays, and giant floating heads. • Oldtaku no Radio #003 – Voltron: Legendary Defender vs. Beast King Golion

    11/12/2016

Third time’s the charm(er)! Episode No. 003: Ink and Jared assemble to form … their opinions on 2016’s Voltron: Legendary Defender. Both hosts watched Voltron: Defender of the Universe on TV while growing up, so this episode looks at the property’s most recent reboot through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia as tempered by a recent twelve-episode rewatch of the original Beast King Golion. For analytical kicks and giggles, Jared watched BKG and VLD episode per episode, while Ink marathoned BKG then VLD. • AGP#069 – Can You Bang the Honda Accord?

    24/11/2016

After a month of holding back, Evan and David are happy to finally release Episode 69, the NICEst episode of the Ani-Gamers Podcast yet. The hosts go over the usual anime/manga/game stuff, including Pokémon and Yuri!!! on Ice, before getting into the meat (heh) of the show: Nitroplus and Gen Urobuchi’s 2003 erotic visual novel, Saya no Uta (Song of Saya). It’s a pretty disturbing piece of Lovecraftian horror, so naturally it was Evan’s first eroge (“erotic game,” for those not familiar with the anime lingo). Topics include: Honda Accord Simulator, soft podcast boys, and the crushing despair that is American politics. • Oldtaku no Radio #002 – Yamishibai

    12/11/2016

For their second official “Oldtaku no Radio” podcast, Ink and Jared focus on the influences, execution, and effects of the short form horror anime Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories. It was Jared’s first time watching and Ink’s second visitation. After discussing Yamishibai in general, they dissect, with spoilers, their favorite episodes as well as the bombs of each season. If you have anything to add to the discussion, we look forward to your comments below. • AGP#068 – The M Stands for “Mob”

    19/10/2016

Evan and David are back to chat about the new anime in the Fall 2016 season, Godzilla, and Spice & Wolf. Plus, the politics of Pokémon, a rant about Evan’s anime reviewing pet peeves, and a look at the impact of greater industry awareness among anime fans. Topics include: The Top 69 Under 69, Pokémon slavery, and definition in the ass area. Tune in next time for Evan and David’s Sexy Episode 069 adventure! • Oldtaku no Radio #001 – Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju

    11/10/2016

Hello! Welcome to a brand new monthly podcast, Oldtaku no Radio, hosted by Ink and Jared here at Ani-Gamers. This new cast spun off an impomptu recording by the aforementioned hosts after they hijacked the Ani-Gamers Podcast proper to review ReLife, but now it’s its own monster. For their first official episode, Ink and Jared talk at length about the Winter 2016 anime Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju. Adapted from Haruko Kumota’s josei manga, this show largely follows the turbulent friendship of two sibling-like orators as they train through times of hardship, prosperity, war, and love. The anime is discussed in great detail, so there are plot spoilers. Rest assured, however, that there is no spoiling this anime; it’s even better the second time around! If you have anything to add to the discussion, we welcome your comments below. Attention, iTunes users: The podcast isn’t on the iTunes Store just yet, so for now you’ll have to manually subscribe to the

  • AGP#067 – The Teekyu Soul Inside Berserk

    02/10/2016

In this episode, Danika Harrod (@danikaharrod) from Vice (formerly a brand manager at Crunchyroll) joins Evan and David to talk about Inio Asano's manga A Girl on the Shore, aka "by far Asano's horniest work." Before that, though, the hosts talk about Mob Psycho 100, Berserk, and The Osamu Tezuka Story. Topics include: A Boy at the Club, Game of Thrones with Senpai, and eating the poop. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#066 – The Age of Consent at the Speed of Light

    17/09/2016

Evan's been playing way too much of the highly anticipated, supremely disappointing space game No Man's Sky, so we brought Anime News Network veteran Bamboo Dong (@ANN_Bamboo) on the show to talk about the game, as well as the recent week of big anime news, including Sentai Filmworks' license of Chihayafuru and The Mary Sue's controversial article about moé. Topics include: the choice between the charger and the headphones, the The People v. O. J. Simpson of anime, and weeaboo eye exams. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#065b – Ink and Jared Hijack the Show, Part 2

    12/09/2016

In the second half of episode 65, Ani-Gamers contributing editor Ink (@AnimatedInk) and guest contributor Jared Nelson (@savevsjared) take over the show to discuss the anime they've been watching during the Summer 2016 season. As mentioned last time, David and Evan will be back in about a week with another regular Ani-Gamers Podcast episode. Topics include: confusingly similar anime titles, light novel adaptations of Scream, and rampant cultural illiteracy. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#065a – Ink and Jared Hijack the Show, Part 1

    07/09/2016

In this episode, Ani-Gamers contributing editor Ink (@AnimatedInk) and guest contributor Jared Nelson (@savevsjared) take over the show to discuss simulcast anime series ReLIFE. David and Evan will be back in two weeks, so in the meantime you can tide yourselves over with two smart guys who don't make jokes about porn video games at every opportunity. Topics include: experimental drugs for desperate losers, underage drinking, and the parallels between ReLIFE and other NEET series like Welcome to the NHK and Eden of the East. Look out for the upcoming second half of the episode, in which Ink and Jared discuss the other anime they've been watching this season. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! • AGP#064 – Cannon Busters, Under the Dog, and Eating Contests at Otakon 2016

    19/08/2016

Evan and David went to Otakon 2016, but David got an early train out of town, so Evan had to settle for a huge supergroup of podcasters and bloggers in this post-Otakon show. Daryl Surat (@DarylSurat), Gerald Rathkolb (@Gerald_AWO), and Clarissa Graffeo (@ClarissaG) from Anime World Order (http://awopodcast.com); Alain (@hisuiRT) and Kate (@narutakiRT) from the Reverse Thieves/Speakeasy (http://reversethieves.com); and Carl (@sdshamshel) from Ogiue Maniax (https://ogiuemaniax.com) sit down to discuss their favorite and least favorite parts of Otakon 2016, and the future of the convention as it moves to Washington, DC in 2017. Topics include: accidentally winning eating contests, Koji Morimoto impersonators, and the presumed lowlight of the weekend, the GamerGate panel ("Politics in Video Games"). Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#063 – Prepping for Otakon 2016

    09/08/2016

As David and Evan are about to head off to Otakon 2016 in Baltimore, our hosts sit down to chat about Re:Zero, Under the Dog, The Fruit of Grisaia, Patlabor, and their plans for the convention. Also this episode sounds better than ever thanks to a tweak in David's mic placement and a wired ethernet connection on Evan's end (thanks Kenneth Perry for donating to David's GoFundMe for just that purpose, you're a true hero)! Topics include: sword art websites, dangerous choices between sex and death, and a great iTunes review. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#062 – Hot Single Pokémoms in Your Area

    16/07/2016

David and Evan are back for a regularly scheduled Ani-Gamers Podcast to talk about Metal Gear Solid (both 4 and 5), Mob Psycho 100, and Space Patrol Luluco, but more importantly: the whole world has gone crazy for Pokémon Go and our hosts are no exception. Topics include: sakuga/cours sympathizers, real-life Team Rocket, and Studio Trigger performance art. Also featuring David's nephew making a lot of noise in the background. I did my best to mask a lot of the background noise, but David's audio is still a little wonky sometimes. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#061 – The History of Anime and Anime Fandom with Helen McCarthy (AnimeNEXT 2016)

    19/06/2016

David didn't make it down to Atlantic City, NJ for AnimeNEXT last weekend, but Evan did get a chance to sit down with a living anime legend: Helen McCarthy (@tweetheart4711), founder of Anime UK magazine and the author of the first (or first two, depending on who's counting) English-language book(s) about anime. Included in the podcast is the full interview, in which Helen walks Evan through her early exposure to anime, the state of anime fandom when she first began writing about it, and the importance of preserving the artistic history of anime. Big thanks to Helen for taking the time to chat at a very busy convention! Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! • AGP#060 – Grand Theft Monster Girl on the HTC Vive

    16/05/2016

David and Evan are surprisingly topical this episode! Evan's been playing the Overwatch Beta and Firewatch, David's been playing Melty Blood, and they've both been watching Space Patrol Luluco. Topics include: a convention with nuclear reactor-level security policies, the Duck Hunt of Overwatch, a medical drama starring Mario characters, and the question of whether Ninja Slayer could slay the ninjas in Ninja Scroll. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#059 – Fish Heads and Erased with Bill Zoeker

    24/04/2016

Evan managed to convince David to watch Erased, so this episode the hosts sit down with freelance video producer Bill Zoeker (currently working at Crunchyroll) to talk about the popular anime series. Having an extra person on the show and having a series with so much to talk about resulted in us going WAY overtime, so this episode is almost two hours long! Topics include fish tails vs. fish heads on a mermaid/merman, the power of #branding in Shadow of Mordor, and whether the weird age differences in Erased are more or less OK than the one in Garden of Words. SPOILER ALERT: We spoil Erased late in the show, but we give a spoiler alert before it happens. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#058 – Two Moves, More Than Enough to Kill Anything on the Map

    02/04/2016

Being away for conventions means that David and Evan have a lot to talk about this episode, which runs over an hour long! Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice gets some hate at the top, followed by OpenToonz, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, Fire Emblem: Fates, Final Fantasy XIII, and a little bit of Erased. Topics include: Mr. Lord of Rings, Galeforce (a.k.a. the greatest handgun ever made), and Fire Emblem's tendency to be lookin' like Goku. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#057 – Inferno Cop v Dinosaur: Dawn of Justice (Genericon 2016)

    16/03/2016

Just when you thought it was time for us to get back to our regularly scheduled programming, both of our hosts went back to their old college anime/sci-fi/gaming con, Genericon, which Evan was once the chair of. (Evan Minto, by the way, is our absent-minded host who forgot to introduce himself this episode.) We got a chance to sit down with Nick Grippo, the Public Relations Coordinator (Evan's old job!) and Guest coordinator for the convention on Saturday night, the busiest night of the weekend. Topics include reverse Chinese foot-binding, the legend of Genericon's baked beans, and Brony terrorism. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.

  • AGP#056 – Ninja Slayer Catches 'Em All at Katsucon 2016

    21/02/2016

Katsucon 2016 was quite a show, with a Saturday fire alarm, lots of hotel vandalism, and a snowstorm at the tail end that left the Crunchyroll team stranded in DC for a day. Luckily, that meant that there was time to record a special Ani-Gamers Podcast episode featuring Evan, Crunchyroll's Danika Harrod (@danikaharrod) and Sam Wolfe (@_samtaro), and Space Opera Satellite's Patrick (@PatzPrime). Plus, we got a brief visit from Ninja Slayer co-author Phillip "Ninj@" Morzez! Topics include scratch-and-sniff arcade machines, the legend of Vic Mignogna's fire alarm-pulling antics, and drunken Pokémon fans. Keep in mind that the CR folks (Evan, Danika, and Sam) are NOT speaking as official Crunchyroll representatives here, so the opinions they express do not represent Crunchyroll or its affiliates. Send us feedback at podcast@anigamers.com! Show notes, links, comments, and more can be found at http://anigamers.com/podcast.
