In the Okanagan Valley is the small British Columbia town of Penticton. In recent years, this town has seen a boom in local breweries opening their doors. Last Summer I was enjoying... and slightly melting, in the heat of the Okanagan while visiting Kelowna, BC. In the provincial capital of Victoria, not too far away from friends of the podcast Swan's Brewpub and Spinnakers is another historic brewery. I was very fortunate to travel to a region of the province I've always wanted to visit. I hit the road and headed north to Valemount, British Columbia. Located in downtown Vernon BC, Marten Brewery and Pub open their doors in 2015. Voted as one of British Columbia’s Best tasting rooms, the space is large and open with the brewery visible from almost every vantage point in the pub. I recently took a trip out of Cascadia to explore a new part of the world. I found myself in Iceland where craft beer is starting to take off in the country. Beer above 2% ABV was actually illegal in Iceland until 1989 and on top of that, not much agriculture in the country to speak of. So I was curious to find out how much the craft beer scene has grown in that short amount of time and what sort of challenges are faced in making beer in Iceland.
