Ecclesiastes 3. "For everything there is a season." What do we do when we are in those seasons that feel meaningless and pointless? We are often not equipped to deal with suffering, or even how to talk about it. However, God has given us words to express it. When we do, faith begins to grow and we can find hope. David speaking.

James 1:22-24. To the displaced, exiled, and heavily persecuted believers all throughout the known world, James wrote a letter to encourage and remind them of their identity in Christ. He tells them to check the mirror of God's word, so they do not forget who they are. When we forget who we are, we forget how to live. (1/7)

Luke 19:1-11. Who could predict that one lunch would make such an stir? The Jews were waiting for their Messiah to overthrow their Roman oppressors. Despite this, Zacchaeus was a thief, a traitor and a collaborator with Rome. Imagine their surprise when the leading Messiah candidate shared a meal with the enemy instead of swinging a sword.

Psalm 139. According to Forbes, social media usage has increased by 800% in the last 8 years. People put their lives online for many reasons, but a big one is the affirmation of others. We live in a celebrity crazed culture. King David had it, but it was not enough. Behind the castle walls, he was just another guy. His affirmation came from another place.

Exodus 3. Rob describes the challenges in presenting the Gospel of Jesus to a culture that does not respond to Western evangelism. How can a Canadian make a difference in a completely different culture? It is the same answer as travelling across the street and making a difference in the life of a neighbour. Psalm 51. This message was part of a special memorial service honouring the life of one of our longtime congregants. This psalm was his favourite passage. It is written by David, recalling the darkest event in his life. How David responds when he hit rock bottom in his life can be a help to anyone looking for a way out.

Luke 12:32-34. Our whole society and way of life is driven by consumption. Consumerism is a system that requires constant and increasing consumption in order to function. Jesus called for a completely opposite way of life. How can we live like Christ, in a world that is fueled by greed and fear?

John 6:48-55. Our sermon talk was one part of a whole service focused around the Lord's Supper. The early church was known primarily for its practice of Communion, the sacramental meal. It was through Communion that they encountered the mystery of Christ, and received the benefits of His death and resurrection. Included in the recording are liturgical expressions.

Matthew 25:31-40. What is the criteria for making it into heaven? Pretty much everyone on the planet will have an opinion. In this parable, Jesus might surprise many with this particular list. It is not about quantity, but quality. An important warning for a modern society obsessed with "bigger is better".

Colossians 1:15-28. As people were coming to faith in Christ in Colossae, they were mixing their previous philosophies with the Gospel. They were making Jesus out to be less than what he was, and yet desperate to connect with God. Paul responds with a descriptive hymn, inviting these new believers to experience God directly, through worship.

Matthew 10:7. Reflections on the recent loss of three lives; a father-in-law, a grandmother and a church member. Each entered into eternity within two weeks of each other, and yet all three experienced a glimpse of heaven before they died. We live our lives unfortunately seeing through a "glass darkly" as Paul wrote in scripture. And yet the reality of heaven is all around us. Perhaps we need a fresh set of eyes.

Psalms 18:1-6. Have you been feeling overwhelmed by life, distracted by busyness and activity? David knew what it was to feel the weight of the world on his shoulders, but he knew where to go. David found his strength in his relationship with the Lord. So can we, despite what we face daily. We can trust God with our weaknesses. -- Ray speaking

Psalms 111:10-112:3. King David passed along advice to his son Solomon to help him as he took the throne. There are two voices calling out to us, pulling on our hearts. These voices call out to every single person who lived at the time of the Psalms, but also to us. We make our decisions depending on which voice we listen to. A great challenge to us parents as we celebrate Father's Day. (2/2) - David speaking

Philippians 4:6-7. Despite what is happening in our lives, and in the world around us, Paul tells us that we can experience God's peace. He even tells us what to do in order to experience God's peace. He tells the church to pray, to be thankful and to live in Christ. (2/2)
