This episode is from a classic, one of THE greats of Old Time Radio awesomeness. Oh yes, The Shadow. Beating criminals with psychology and smarts, and trickery, he’s sort of like the Batman of Old Time Radio take a quick listen: Organised Forces of law. In fact the very first batman script, The Case of the Chemical Syndicate is a sort of Homage to The Shadow. Bill Finger (co-creator of Batman) later publicly admitted, “My first Batman script was a take-off on a Shadow story”. So if you’re a fan of Batman, and Old Time Radio, this is where it all began folks. This is what launched a comic franchise, generations of young folk would learn to love old time radio, and imaginations from all over the globe would be sparked. Today I have for you’re a heavily remastered episode from This is your FBI titled Return of the Mob. This particular episode was a doozy. I had to really apply some key spectral and voice noise reduction tools on this one. Let me show you how it sounded without the audio – as an example, now listen to after it’s mastered. One of the toughest aspects was getting rid of these weird static sounds that appeared in random parts of the episode, mainly though in the middle. Take a listen to it without the remastering: and now with it….it’s nuts. But it took a lot of time – the main reason why only one episode today. But I wanted to really push the limits here on what can be done to the audio. That and lifting the clarity of the audio a little so as properly sound out as much of the words as possible. I wanted to shake it up for you lovelies, and the quality in these episodes are quiet good. Which means I’m able to really push the audio to it’s limits. Today I’ve done something a little different, I’ve stripped out Reverb that should be there, bumps and thuds in the audio where possible, and add a new tool to get rid of the static noise.I think it did a really good job of cutting out that noise actually, but you can be the judge.

Lately I’ve been remastering The Black Museum, which are old time radio episodes focused on household items being used to maim, slash, or facilitate murder. The Black Museum is also presented by Orson Welles, a fantastic actor, writer, and director, with a very unique and charismatic voice. Now folks your two tales today were a doosie. The Car Tire is our first episode, wrought with pops, clicks, random silences, and frequent mic thud sounds. Distracting and annoying – I was able to deploy two new tricks today; cutting silences in the audio greater than 0.03 seconds, and using plosive-filters to cut out the thud sounds. This made
