On this episode of Cult Film Club Jaime, Shawn and Pax discuss the controversial Disney classic, Song of the South from 1946 starring James Baskett, Bobby Driscoll and Hattie McDaniel.  We discuss the movie, the music and of course the controversy surrounding the subject matter of the movie and why it has never been released on home video in North America.

On this mini episode of the show we visit the Concession Stand to talk a bit about Gremlins 2.  After covering the first film on episode 43 of the show we also ended up talking about the sequel, but it was too much for one episode, and not enough for two.  So sit back as we have a short conversation about the sequel, Phoebe Cates' horrible head gear, evolved Gremlins, Joe Dante's penchant for making cartoon movies, and why the salad gremlin rules all.

On this episode of the Cult Film Club Jaime, Pax and Shawn are kicking off year five of the show by covering one of our favorite Henson fantasy flicks, Labyrinth from 1986.  Though the film was a financial flop when it was released, it has become a cult hit over the past 30 years, to a point where it might just be one of Jim Henson's most beloved films.  Starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, the film is a modern day fairy tale all about that awkward balance between dreams and reality and when to let go of your childhood.  Featuring astounding creature designs inspired by artist Brian Froud, music by Bowie and sporting a script co-written by Monty Python's Terry Jones the film is unlike anything else that was released before or after.

On this very special holiday edition of the Cult Film Club, hosts Shawn, Paxton and Jaime finally tackle the most awesome genre Christmas film of all time, Gremlins.  Released in 1984 and directed by Joe Dante, this film is the perfect mash-up of family film and gross out horror fun.  Starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, the flick centers on a strange creature called a mogwai that is presented as a Christmas gift to Billy Peltzer by his inventor father.  Before the audience knows what to make of the mogwai Gizmo, he multiplies and the litter of new critters soon morph into an army of tiny murderous Gremlins.  Can Billy and his girlfriend Kate save the town of Kingston Falls before the Gremlins destroy it?

On this episode of the Cult Film Club Shawn, Jaime and Paxton dive stagedive into the weird and wonderful world of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  Written, directed and starring John Cameron Mitchell with music by Stephen Trask, this modern musical masterpiece follows a young boy named Hansel as his world is turned upside down, his body inside out, and his genius stolen.  Hansel becomes Hedwig, a transexual diva whose life story makes for an amazing glam/punk rock album.  We talk about the film, the amazing soundtrack, the actors, and the stage play that influenced the whole production.
