Sometimes it is hard to know which direction to go when it comes to getting tags in the West. In a changing world it takes flexibility to make things work. Here at Epic Outdoors, we live to find success where it may not be common. In this episode we record live from the Western Hunting and Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City. We (Adam and Jason) put on a seminar sharing our personal theories in applying for tags across the west. We talk through some of our favorite states and share our thoughts and strategies when it comes to getting tags and making the most of them. 

Applying in NM, UT, OR and a Mexico Coues Deer Hunt. In this episode we talk about our February magazine and outline each of the states covered in that issue. These include New Mexico, Utah, and Oregon. We also hear the report from John's recent trip to Mexico to hunt Coues Deer. John showed up at the office this week with a black eye from Mexico so we were all intrigued to hear about the trip. 

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regional Managers on Wolves. In this episode of the Epic Outdoors Podcast we talk with Colorado Parks and Wildlife Regional Managers in regards to the Colorado Wolf initiative. JT Romatzke NW Regional Manager and Cory Chick SW Regional Manger give us some insights into the wolf situation in Colorado and where we are in regards to a wolf re-introduction in the state. 

EP 142: The Life of a Wolf Hunter with Gus Thoreson. While spending several winters in the backcountry trapping and hunting wolves, Gus studied and learned a lot about wolf behavior and tendencies. Wolves are a very smart predator that are efficient in being unseen killers. A wolf hunt is one of the most exhausting hunts, both mentally and physically and yields the lowest success rates of most any hunts in the west. By learning to better understand wolves, Gus has found quite a bit of success on harvesting wolves. This is an informative podcast for anyone interested in wolf hunting. 

Change Creates Opportunity. We often detest change and the pains of having our favorite hunts and hunting areas affected. Although it's not easy to embrace change we should always look for new opportunities created by those changes. Sometimes a new hunt date, a longer season, new tag numbers, new drawing procedures by a state, can play to our benefit if we pay attention. If we as hunters can be observant, change can sometimes lead to some of our best opportunities. This episode focuses on a lot of changes and highlights new ways to look at some of those changes.

Meet Our Newest Staff Member, Devin Archibald. In this episode of the Epic Outdoors Podcast we introduce you to Devin Archibald our newest hunting consultant. Devin has many years of experience as a guide as well as many years in the Long Range Shooting business. Devin brings more depth to our hunt consultants and will be helping a lot with our hunt bookings and guided hunt opportunities.

With several days under his belt and after passing on many legal rams Adam finally set his sights on a ram worth bringing home. Hunts across the west are getting started. We talk about preparing for the upcoming season and share some quick stories of whats been happening here as we get ready to dive in.

EP 132: Making the Most of a Tag with Jason Mouttet. In this episode of The Epic Outdoors Podcast we take a call from 25 year old, Jason Mouttet, who is currently sitting on Wheeler Peak in New Mexico after successfully filling his tag on a Bighorn Sheep. Jason drew the tag on his second year applying. We discussed the excitement of getting a tag at age 25 and how he appreciates what he has. Because of this he dedicated over 20 days to scouting the unit and looking over sheep. With hard to come by tags like this there is a lot of pressure to be successful. We talk in depth about these rare opportunities and how to best handle those situations. Hunting season is almost here and we are beyond ready to get out in the field. This episode got us amped and ready to roll.

Jason gets detailed on many topics like finding big bucks, scouting, trail cameras, deer patterns etc. This episode is packed with valuable information. In this episode we talk with longtime guide Brock Rowley about his history and tactics he has used to consistently find and harvest big bucks and bulls. Brock has been a guide for the past decade and even at a young age has considerable knowledge behind him. When it comes to harvesting the top end animals being consistent is key.
