Modesty is the virtue that safeguards the dignity of a person in their association with others. It benefits both the individual and society (that is, “the other”) because it governs the exterior appearance and behavior of the person and thus helps make society civil and harmonious by helping to protect the virtue in “the other” person. Through his gentle but direct words, Carlo helped his parents rediscover and return to their Catholic faith. In 2006, he died from leukemia at age 15. He was Beatified in 2020 by a delegate of Pope Francis, and declared a Saint by Pope Leo XIV in 2025. Pier Giorgio Michelangelo Frassati was born in Turin, Italy on April 6, 1901.Just before receiving his university degree, Pier Giorgio contracted poliomyelitis, which doctors later speculated he caught from the sick whom he tended. Neglecting his own health because his grandmother was dying, after six days of terrible suffering Pier Giorgio died at the age of 24 on July 4, 1925.

St. Jane Frances De Chantal - Wife, Mother, Widow and Foundress of the Visitation Order (August 12). While married, Jane ably managed her husband’s estate to provide for the care of the poor and the disenfranchised. After the untimely death of her husband of nine years who was accidentally shot in a hunting accident, she retreated into prayer and an austere life. She met Francis de Sales in Dijon, France (in 1604) and together, they founded the Congregation of the Visitation, a Religious Order that welcomed women who were unable to join existing Orders because of their age or infirmity. By the time of her death in 1641, Jane Frances De Chantal had founded over 85 convents of Visitation Sisters.

Octaves include the seven days following a particular Feast Day or Solemnity, with the Feast Day or Solemnity itself included – thus, a total of eight days (“octave” referring to “eight”). On January 26, 2021, Pope Francis ordered the collaborative inscription of Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus into the General Roman Calendar of the universal Church as one celebratory liturgical feast, to replace the then-existing celebration of Saint Martha alone.
