Sinopsis

These are the stories that have been omitted from the narrative. These are the tales that could soon be forgotten. For that reason, they must be told.

  • OS E4 - It is Well With My Soul

    19/04/2017 Duración: 07min

One of my favorite songs in the entire world was written by a man named Horatio Spafford in 1873. He was a lawyer and a real estate investor and a Presbyterian church elder. By all measures, a shining example of someone who had achieved the American dream. But at 9 PM on October 8th, 1871, when the O’Leary family barn caught on fire, he learned that financial success isn't the metric by which one should ever base their happiness. This is a story of love and loss, grief and  acceptance. • OS E3 - The King of Beaver Island

    10/04/2017 Duración: 20min

Beaver Island lies about 32 miles off the coast of Michigan, smack dab in the middle of the two peninsulas. Its population of 657 people have a total of eight restaurants to choose from, but that’s really only during the summer. It’s the type of place that largely shuts down when the tourists don’t want to come visit. It’s a quiet, peaceful island, wholly unremarkable as a vacation destination today. But for six whole years in the 1850s, the island and its people, they had themselves a king. --- Music: "Concentration" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- https://facebook.com/omittedpodcast Instagram: @omittedpodcast Twitter: @omittedpodcast

  • OS E2 - Before the Bard

    03/04/2017 Duración: 11min

He was a poet and a scholar, but more than anything, Sir Thomas Wyatt was a lover. When he fell in love with one of King Henry VIII's prospects, he shaped not only his own life, but also yours. Hear how this sixteenth century love triangle shaped humanity and the arts for the rest of time, and how my life (in particular) is a direct result of his actions. --- Music: "Relaxing Piano Music" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

  • OS E1 - Customer Complaint

    27/03/2017 Duración: 07min

In the first off-season episode of Omitted, we're going back in time nearly 4,000 years. We'll discuss ancient aliens, highlight the origins of our creation stories, and hear some of the oldest-known text that exists on this planet. We'll hear how that text relates to the world we live in today, and what a man who lived 4,000 years ago has in common with Cracker Barrel's biggest critic, Brad. --- Music: Eastminster Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- http://facebook.com/omittedpodcast Instagram: @omittedpocast Twitter: @omittedpodcast

  • S2E12 - Aftermath

    20/03/2017 Duración: 15min

In the final episode of season two, we hear the horrifying details of the aftermath of that infamous day. Beyond that, though, we should stop and reflect on the true aftermath. The ultimate outcome. The real reason that December 7, 1941 will forever be known as the day of infamy. --- Music: Almost in F (slowed 11%) Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

  • S2E11 - (Un)known

    20/03/2017 Duración: 17min

In April of 2015, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced a lofty new plan. 73 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the agency would return to the scene of the disaster and perform a duty that, for multiple reasons, wouldn’t have been possible in 1941. With the help of both historical records and modern technology, the agency set out to attach a name to the remains of the 388 victims of the USS Oklahoma who were left unidentified following the aftermath of that fateful day. Of the 429 men killed aboard the Oklahoma that morning, only 35 were ever fully identified in the years that followed. The rest, the hundreds of men who were lost when their ship suddenly capsized, were buried on O’ahu inside plain, wooden coffins in mass graves with headstones marked “Unknown.” And now, a full 75 years after their final chapter ended, their story is receiving its epilogue. --- Music: Relaxing Piano Music Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License

  • S2E10 - Internment (Part 2)

    06/03/2017 Duración: 21min

I hadn't planned to write this episode. On the contrary, I had been hoping to use this week as an opportunity to close up the season and be on my way to telling the stories of the Civil Rights Movement in season three. But toward the end of my research last week, I came across an anecdote that left me so thoroughly shocked that I haven't been able to get it off my mind ever since. I can't let these details be omitted, so we’re going back to the camps this week for Internment (Part 2). --- Music: Bittersweet, Mesmerize Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- www.facebook.com/omittedpodcast www.instagram.com/omittedpodcast Twitter: @omittedpodcast

  • S2E8 - Washed Up

    20/02/2017 Duración: 17min

Waimanalo Beach is a haven for O'ahu's locals today--a spot where they can go to get away from the crowds. It's not too busy, but it still sees action. On December 7, 1941, as Pearl Harbor was attacked from above, a group of men set out to attack it from below as well. Two of these men found themselves at Waimanalo later that evening, totally by accident. And for one of them, it's where they reached their limit. --- Music: Peace of Mind Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- http://facebook.com/omittedpodcast http://instagram.com/omittedpodcast

    06/02/2017 Duración: 13min

On that Sunday afternoon, as news of the attack spread across US airwaves, thousands of USS Arizona families gathered together in their homes--crowded into their living rooms, radios tuned in with the hopes of hearing word that their loved one had been spared. For 38 of those families, however, their fears were made double. --- Music: "Bittersweet," "Magic Forest," "Soaring," Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- http://facebook.com/omittedpocast http://instagram.com/omittedpodcast

  • S2E5 - Friendly Fire

    30/01/2017 Duración: 08min

Those anti-aircraft shells didn't always hit their target. Sometimes they missed. Sometimes they barreled through the sky past the plane they’d been destined for and continued inland, unable to be stopped, and they landed wherever their trajectory would take them. --- Music: String Impromptu Number 1 Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) (slowed 17%) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ --- http://facebook.com/omittedpocast http://instagram.com/omittedpodcast

  • S2E2 - Ni'ihau

    19/12/2016 Duración: 22min

153 miles west of Pearl Harbor sits the tiny, red dirt island of Ni'ihau. On a normal Sunday morning, its residents were surprised to find themselves joined by a visitor--one who spoke very little English and was very much unwelcome. The island is kapu (forbidden) to outsiders, and the events that followed served only to substantiate that policy. --- Music: Garden Music by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/

  • S2E1 - Pu'uloa

    12/12/2016 Duración: 08min

To a time when shark gods still protected Hawai'i and looked out for the people who lived on the 'āina. This is the story of Pu'uloa.
