Rob's Soapbox - The Worst Hall Of Fame
08/05/2022 Duración: 06minWith so much “bad” happening right now, ranging from the Invasion of Ukraine to the rage over abortion again taking center stage in America, let’s escape for a few minutes and talk about something less important, seemingly trivial, yet necessary to confront. The Major League Baseball and National Football League Hall of Fames are the most coveted and noteworthy Halls in all of America. There’s a Hall for almost every interest, ranging from croquet to paper. I’m not sure why we need an Insurance Hall of Fame, but I sure am glad there’s the AVN Hall of Fame, which honors the best of the best in the porn industry. I suppose there’s a reason why the Mascot Hall exists, so too the Quilters, Scuba Divers, and Internet Halls of Fame. All of which makes the most embarrassing Hall of Fame of them all so shameful. You see, the Basketball Hall of Fame actually inducts people that have something to do with the game; either as a player, coach, or even referee of the game of basketball. The AVN Hall of Fame includes porn stars

Rob's Soapbox - Why Stop There?
01/05/2022 Duración: 05minAs the Biden Administration continues to swirl downward and circle the toilet bowl of history, it continues to dig its’ collective fist deeper and deeper into its’ almost empty bag of tricks to find something, anything, that will stop the bleeding of the lowest approval rating in the history of all American Presidents.Enter the re-emergence of floating the idea of forgiving student loan debt.92% of all student loans are owned by us…the United States Government. Thus, our elected leaders have the ability to say “you no longer owe us,” and simply add it to the national debt.As you can imagine, this is a very popular idea with young people who have large student loan debt. This is how desperate the administration is; they’re considering pandering to the group of voters that vocally supports them overwhelmingly yet never, ever, shows up to vote on election day. Of all voters aged 18-29, never have more than 18% of them shown up, and that was their high watermark in 2008 when they ushered President Obama into the

Rob's Soapbox - The United States of Compliance
24/04/2022 Duración: 08minLong before Covid, I was ringing the bell about the Pussification of America. It takes shape in many forms ranging from the destruction of the appreciation of the need for toughness and healthy forms of masculinity, to trophies for everyone and making sure our kids never feel what it’s like to fail or be disappointed. We’re a society that believes words can be violent, closes school because of the forecast of a heavy rainstorm the next day, and is now literally afraid of getting sick.During the last two years, it has been nothing short of stunning, yet not surprising to see how far gone we are. The overwhelming majority of Americans meekly obeyed politicians and scientists who ordered us to do things that made absolutely no sense. The few of us who questioned, and even pointed out observational proof of the folly of the various mandates and policies were branded everything from lunatics to Granny-Killers.Fast forward to present, as some Americans emerge from the comfort of their scaredy-cat bubbles they are se

Rob's Soapbox - It's Friday In America
17/04/2022 Duración: 08minAll this weekend headlines screamed “homebuying is now as expensive as it has been in a generation!”https://www.deseret.com/utah/2022/4/14/23025299/u-s-mortgage-rates-5-percent-home-buying-most-expensive-inflation-housing-pricesAnd my first thought was “what isn’t?!?!?!”But then I realized that I’m old…and I’ve lived through 2-3 generations of this…and that if homes (and everything else) is as expensive as it has been in a generation, then we should also remind everyone that we went through a period where they were as affordable as they were in a generation. We America, the economy, society, and everything else is cyclical. It all comes around and goes around. Ironically, it was on Easter weekend that I grasped what my father was saying a couple years ago when he calmly reassured us all that, essentially, we’ll be fine. America will find its’ way back and everything will work out. When he first said it I was skeptical, since my arc in life was growing up in the miserable 70’s, the scary cold-war 80’s, the boom

Rob's Soapbox - Why Does Everything Have To Be About Race?
11/04/2022 Duración: 10minEvery single time race is injected into a conversation, some moron…usually a middle-aged white man…shouts out “why does everything have to be about race?”For example, last week the reggae band Soja won the Grammy for best reggae album and social media exploded because everyone in the band is white! a Jamaican woman on Twitter said “spice losing the Grammy to soja has proven that we Jamaicans & our entertainment sector has work to do…the Grammy’s, along with these cultural vultures, are way too presumptuous, our culture is being disrespected & blatantly robbed.”A Jamaican man wrote: “A white American group #soja won a Grammy for best reggae album wtf Talk about culture appropriation”https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2022/04/04/soja-grammys-awards-reggae-category-sparks-backlash/9464001002/We tried to talk about it on the show and discuss whether or not there was a legitimate point of view for people from a specific part of the world feeling as though their cultural contribution was bei

Rob's Soapbox - The Problem With Perspective
03/04/2022 Duración: 08minIt is my sincere hope that this will be the last, and hopefully most unique and least polarizing perspective on the “Slap Heard Around the World,” and the truth is, it isn’t about Will Smith or Chris Rock at all. It’s much more about us; and not in that pandering, drivel-soaked way most are using this moment as a way to point out that we, the people, are to blame for everything because we’re an angry society, we worship celebrities, we’re all snowflakes, we’ve demonized masculinity, blah blah blah.Thinking about this more in-depth, and, as I often do, trying to find the angle no one is taking, I stumbled upon something that can’t be ignored. While nothing other than childish rage defends Will Smith’s behavior, we are told that Chris Rock’s joke was offensive for three potential reasons as follows: Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia, an autoimmune disease that causes a person’s hair to fall out.Whether Rock knew about the alopecia or not, it is well-known in the black community that you don’t make fun of

Rob's Soapbox - Attacking The Cart Pullers
20/03/2022 Duración: 09minMore than a decade ago, I wrote a column about the cart-pullers; those of us who lead the way, take the risks, create and provide the jobs, and quite candidly, keep the country running. We don’t ask for notoriety, gratitude, or attention…we just ask that you not vilify us vis a vie envy. So much for that, as here we are again. On the lighter side of this topic, I saw a headline last week as the baseball lockout was ending that read “MLB owners retain their billions.” Long story short, said the article, was that millionaires will again be playing baseball this spring, paid by billionaires, and for some reason, the 30 people that own a baseball team are somehow the bad guys. Sure, I get it…defending wealthy people is less popular now than ever before, and to be completely candid, many of them are, in fact, scumbags. But this ongoing childish call for wealth redistribution under the guise of life not being fair is not only infantile, it’s founded in fallacy. Yes, those big, bad, evil MLB owners will remain billio

Dog Parents Are Better - Rob's Soapbox
06/03/2022 Duración: 05minI’ve noticed that almost any time someone is making a point about raising dogs they always preface it with some sort of disclaimer making sure to not offend parents of human children. Something like “I’m not comparing raising dogs to raising children…”Well, guess what? I am…and I’m here to tell you that dog parents are better. Now, the beauty of that is that it absolutely enrages some people. In my experience, those who have raised both children and dogs actually agree that raising dogs is more difficult if you’re doing it right…and therein lies the secret; the only people I know that get truly worked up over this supposition are either horrible dog owners, horrible parents, or both.Parents of humans actually have it easy, especially in the 21st century! For starters, unlike dog parents, human parents have no reason to believe that their children will die before them. While tragic when it happens, thank god it’s rare. It’s not only not rare for dog parents, it’s part of the deal. We literally agree to raise, t

Rob's Soapbox - Leadership Versus Coaching
30/01/2022 Duración: 07minSome leaders are great coaches, but certainly not all. Many coaches are great leaders, but too many aren’t. The thing most people don’t realize is how different the two are and how rare it is to find someone who is both.Just to confuse things even further, might I point out that sometimes the best coaches are the best leaders by recognizing that they don’t need to do any coaching. For example, take the high school baseball coach who is blessed to have a clear and obvious major league prospect pitcher on his team. A great coach will leave that player alone entirely and recognize that all the pitcher needs to do is throw more…on his own, left to his own devices. The player will learn as he goes, on his own, and doesn’t need to be told how to do things because he’s already better than the coach ever was, will, or could be…just let the pitcher pitch. Meanwhile, that same coach, if he’s truly a great one, will work intensely with his three “worst” pitchers…and if he’s really smart, he’ll tell them to watch what th

Rob's Soapbox - Trans-America and the Hypocrisy Over Women's Sports
23/01/2022 Duración: 11minI’m so confused. It was just a decade ago that we were being told that society needed to evolve and understand that women can compete with men physically in sports. It was time to drop female leagues and just have leagues in which boys and girls, men and women, would all play together and against one another. From golf to football this has been the cry for years.Michelle Wie and Annika Sorenstam both played in PGA men’s tournaments (and did terribly) and we were told that they could absolutely go toe-to-toe against men driving the ball more than a hundred yards further than them. We needed to grow up as a society. As of 2018, there were over 2400 girls in America playing tackle football with and against boys, and of the more than 4 million kids aged 6 to 12 playing baseball this year 100,000 of them are girls. And this, we’re told is how it should be. How dare we exclude girls from “male,” sports and thereby insinuate or, worse, say out loud that females are built differently than males and simply don’t have th

Rob's Soapbox - Hey Pope Francis: F&*K YOU
17/01/2022 Duración: 10minI’ll start with a few admissions and caveats. I am not, nor have I ever been, a fan of organized religion. I’ve dabbled in most of them, ranging from the modern, mainstream “hip” version of Christianity (where they encourage patrons to wear jeans and play Christian rock music at mass) to the Assembly of God (Pentecostals). I’ve attended Baptist, Mormon, and Episcopalian churches and I’m one of the very few people I know who has actually read the Qur'an.In the end, spirituality is for me, but not organized religion and believe you me, there is a very stark difference. Religion is the process and practice of humans telling other humans what to believe and how God will react…not to mention the collection of endless amounts of money along the way. I am, instead, like the majority of our founding fathers were, a deist; meaning that I acknowledge the existence of a supreme being and/or creator and who or what that looks like is not of your god damned business (pun intended). Deists also believe that this supreme be

Rob's Soapbox - No, For The Last Time, You Don't Kill Baby Hitler
03/01/2022 Duración: 05minOver the holiday break, while lying around and trying to recover from 2021, I found myself getting caught up on a lot of different shows…some decent, some awful, and, as it turns out, too many obsessed with Baby Hitler for some coincidental (I hope) reason. In a surprise to no one, most of the Hitler-related references were Covid based because, apparently, we’ve all finally realized that we’re literally living in the worst time in history since Hitler, an uplifting thought to say the least. Shows such as “The Problem with Jon Stewart,” (mediocre at best) and the “South Park Post Covid, the Return of Covid,” special (not as good as the first one), both had lengthy time-travel related dialogues about the pros and cons of going back in time and having the opportunity to kill Hitler as a baby.Since we live in a time when most grown adults have both the intelligence and attention span of a third-grader, such seemingly obvious assertions almost always come with a reaction of “well duh, of course, I would kill Hitler

Rob's Soapbox - Playground Politics
12/12/2021 Duración: 09minI’ll be candid…I’m exhausted; mentally and intellectually exhausted. No doubt the last 21 months have taken their toll on all of us, and I’m painfully aware of what they’ve taken out of me. But it isn’t just covid; it’s seemingly everything and everyone from the bottom up, and nowhere is more exhausting than the political playground and the children who are supposed to be our leaders.Don’t even start with me about why your tribe isn’t the problem, for you are the problem for being tribal in the first place, as we’ve documented and discussed endlessly here. You’re a god damned lunatic for investing in one of these political parties and I take great joy in knowing that you will live an empty and hollow life as you watch all of your asinine dreams never come true as your party betrays you over and over again, and ultimately changes absolutely nothing about your miserable life.We have literally reached the tit-for-tat, nana-boo-boo level of politics in America. Whatever one party does that the other doesn’t like,

Rob's Soapbox - Attention Everyone: Let It Go!
05/12/2021 Duración: 08minRarely does someone find a way to express what I am thinking in a more eloquent fashion than I can. Kudos to Jonah Goldberg, a conservative who isn’t insane, for putting pen to paper and finding a way to say what needs to be said over, and over, and over again; getting louder every time. A few days ago his column spoke to not just me, but also to multiple friends of mine who saw it and cheered; including some of my most liberal friends, proving that there are still a few of us who can think outside of our tribes.Making his piece even more noteworthy, over the weekend, Oregon legislators made it known that they are moving towards making indoor masking, regardless of vaccination status, permanent. Oregon is one of the few states that never lifted its indoor mask mandates and now will become the first to create a mask society. Such lunacy makes many of us shake our heads and wonder what world we’re living in, but it also further points out the divide between us as a society. If you tortured yourself and wat

Rob's Soapbox - Let's Go Brandon!
28/11/2021 Duración: 09minMany of you are still trying to figure out why people are walking around wearing shirts that say “let’s go Brandon.” Long story short, never before has a sideline sports reporter made more of a cultural impact. The Associated press likes to report that it all started at an Oct. 2 NASCAR race, but that’s not the whole story. It really started in early September, primarily at college football games, and then spreading to other sporting events as fans would break out in chants of “F*#K Joe Biden. A month later, at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, Brandon Brown, a 28-year-old driver, had won his first Xfinity Series Race and was being interviewed by NBC Sports reporter, Kelli Stavast. The crowd behind Brown was chanting…what we still don’t know, as Stavast has not publicly commented, is whether she knew what they were chanting and was trying to provide some “family friendly” cover to viewers, or whether she legitimately misheard the crowd. Either way, she suggested on live TV that they were chanting “Let’s
