Jess and Andrew continue their adventures through the cineplex. This weekend we got to see the new IFC Midnight movie “Feral”, a werewolf mythology with a twist. We enjoyed John Cameron Mitchell’s new opus of the bizarre, “How to Talk to Girls at Parties”. Jess and Andrew have been hotly anticipating HBO's "Fahrenheit 451" adaptation since they saw the first trailer. Would it live up to the hype?  We check out another Michael Mann film streaming on Hulu with "Thief" Andrew takes a look at 1984's "Dreamscape", and how it tapped into the same Zeitgeist as West Craven with "Nightmare on Elm Street" Either "Blue is the Warmest Color", or it is a film that left us both ice cold. Jess and Andrew continue their adventures through the multiplexes. Guided by the advice of Cineamaddicts Greg Srisavasdi, we traveled to the Landmark Cinemas to see "Beast", a very interesting film set in a seaside town in the Channel Islands. Like everyone else, we also had to check out "Deadpool 2", and fortunately left the theater with giddy grins. The weekend was capped off with Paul Schrader's new film "First Reformed". Oscar performances are usually saved for Oscar season, but Ethan Hawke felt the need to hit this performance out of the park early. Jess and Andrew took a trip to the movies to see a trio of extremely under the radar new releases this week. Each one with a "midnight movie" tone.  "Revenge" is a bloody masterpiece from France that Jess just had to see twice to believe. She actually went to see it two days in a row. That is rare.  IFC Midnight is a company that has been increasing the quality of their films in recent years. While Jess was studying for an entrance exam, Andrew needed to find something to do...which meant he was going to watch some movies. This week, Andrew catches up on a couple films he regretted missing around award's season with "All the Money in the World", and "Loveless". One of Andrew's favorites from his youth, "Drugstore Cowboy", is streaming on Amazon and Hulu, so that got another viewing.  Jess and Andrew revisit the beginnings of the French New Wave with "The 400 Blows". Jess and Andrew's adventures to the cineplex continued through a very sparse new release week. Despite Andrew's aversion to most comic movies, he must admit that the last 3 Marvel releases (Spiderman: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther) were all pretty good. Giving respect to the previous work of the directors of those, we did a pretty deep dive into "Clown", "Hunt for the Wilderpeople", and "Fruitvale Station". We explore HBO's entertaining ode to the Eighth Wonder of the World: Andre The Giant. Only one film can say it introduce Warren Beatty to the screen, and that one is streaming on Filmstruck now. As the temperature rises (it rose to around 90 in LA today), the quality of movies get better. Sifting through the horror on Netflix, Jess and Andrew were treated to the Ouija nightmare Veronica. Curious about the new Al Pacino HBO movie, Paterno was given a chance.  20th Century Women is streaming on Amazon, and a film that we are ashamed we missed when it first came out. Maybe it was the title, maybe the advertising, but we made a mistake passing up on it before. Andrew had an alright time watching "Moonrise Kingdom", but may still have some apologizing to do to Wes Anderson fans after this episode. The "Ingrid Goes West" Portion went a bit more smoothly, but the surprise of the week was "The Greatest Showman", Jess and Andrew had a great time with that one. While researching the classic "Vertigo", Jess and Andrew decide to compile their lists of the top 10 films of all time. While we were forced to endure the tortures of "Martyrs", we did find the unexpected treat "Professor Marston and the Wonder Women", chronicling the creation of the comic.
