Springtime - flowers bloom, maple trees run, snow falls, all in the same afternoon! Springtime in New England is like that. Also, it is the awards season. Chef and innkeeper Antonio Petri talks about Easter and Spring menus at the Waybury Inn followed by the finalists from New England for this year's James Beard Awards.

That's what our shuttle driver called it. We're in Boston this week for the New England Restaurant and Bar Show along with many chefs, restaurateurs, and friends from front and back of house and personalities from the foodservice and beverage world. I hopped on the Culinary Stage with Chef Andy Teixeira of Newport Vineyards in Rhode Island and chatted on the show floor with an industry leader. Before that, I caught up with longtime friend Dante Bellini, a filmmaker from Rhode Island who just completed a documentary on the Malassadas - a delicious pastry best described as Fair fried dough's Mediterranean cousin - Portuguese to be precise. Another fun week at Barkeaters Restaurant in Shelburne, Vermont. This week's special menu was done by Julie Finestone who is married to David Zeidler and are the proprietors of Barkeaters. We called it the Julie Show on the air. As David pointed out, the show never ends. Then, we head south on Route 7 to Ferrisburgh Bake Shop where Jennifer Wyman is having an afternoon tea in March and shares details along with the menu of amazing bakery and lunch creations.

The 28th Newport RI Chili Cook-Off at the 37th Newport Winter Festival, February 15, 2025. 10 competitors, over a thousand tasters who voiced their choice and judged the Chili Champs. The winning chili chefs including restauratns and the Newport Fire Dept won cash and prizes including a prize package from Cabot Creamery of Vermont who furnished an essential ingredient to the contestants - mountains of Vermont Sharp Shredded Cheddar! Let's hear how it sounded and who the 2025 winner is!

We can eat at home. When we go out we often look for an experience we can't get at home. Add in special occasions of life and it becomes even more important. Mon ami, the longtime proprietor of Pot au Feu in Providence RI each year keeps the tradition of the new Beaujolais wine release from the French vineyards.
