In Luke 19, we read the account of a man named Zacchaeus who worked for what was essentially the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the Roman Empire. It’s safe to assume no one liked him, but aside from his profession, the Bible only tells us one other thing about him — that he was short. Bishop Tom Madden uses the account of how Zacchaeus responded to his issue to help us confront and overcome our own issues. Sometimes, God is calling us to do something differently or make a change. Like it did for Zacchaeus, repositioning our lives for God will require obedience and humility, but it will also allow the Lord to bless and grow us.

The purpose of church is to help us become mature and equipped so that we will grow up into Jesus. We must have our minds renewed and transformed so that when the world looks at us they see Jesus. During this process we will undergo trials and tribulations. Sometimes we will have to praise our way through these and other times we will have to speak the word the Lord gives us. Where is the real church?

This week, we are continuing our “On Mission” series, which is focused on getting everyone who is called by God involved in the mission that Jesus gave us: to go and make disciples. We should be focused on that mission 168 hours a week, not just for the one hour a week we’re in church together. Last week, we talked about getting prepared to carry out the mission of discipleship that we’re on. We used the analogy of a military unit getting ready for battle and talked about three ways we should get prepped for the mission. Now, it’s time to talk about the fourth one, which is all about making sure that we’re repaired, mended, restored and ready to fulfill our mission.

In the book of Galatians 6:9, we are challenged to do good despite being tempted to be weary. Most believers I know have had to make the decision will I grow weary while doing good or decide to do what is right according to scripture and reap a harvest.
