The extraordinary Jackie Tohn (Glow, Best Leftovers Ever) joins the Friday Night Movie siblings for a discussion that goes everywhere from comedy to music to our families' shared history in Poland. This week, on Friday Night Movie! We are all about the new Academy-Award winning film Promising Young Woman, starring Carey Mulligan. We are joined by Robyn Kopp, a film expert and producer based in San Francisco, CA. Robyn served as Associate Producer on the BAFTA nominated film, AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER which was selected to be the opening night film of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.  In addition to her producing work, Robyn served as co-director on the independent, successfully crowd funded documentary series about HIV Prevention called The PrEP Project, which has over 300,000 views on social media platforms. Since 2014, Robyn has worked at Actual Films alongside filmmakers Bonni Cohen, Jon Shenk and Richard Berge to produce a broad range of film & video projects across departments. Robyn holds a MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University. It’s the most wonderful time of the year for the Korman siblings: Mother’s Day. The official mom of Friday Night Movie joins her kids to recount how each of them was born (with lots of details). Then the sibs reflect on the times their own children were born, of course, with the hilarious perspective of their mother. This week was a fantastical one at Friday Night Movie: Steve Kostanski, the director of Shai’s current horror-comedy obsession, PG Psycho Goreman, joined the sibs for an interview! Steve talked about the magic of practical special effects, his chemistry with frequent collaborator Adam Brooks and the Astron 6 crew, and the importance of PG having a soundtrack that ROCKED as hard as Queen. Then they did a classic compare-a-thon of horror movie masters, and some buy/rent/meh (with He-Man, NInja Turtles, and Thundercats). This week on Friday Night Movie: It’s the Superbowl, and the sibs were READY for the commercials - and some football too, or whatever. Special guest, and advertising maestro, Bobby Buttons, returned to help the sibs process their reactions. Social justice themed ads fell flat - as Lily put it, “I couldn’t tell if they were altruistic or like, Kendall Jenner handing out Pepsi at a protest”. And they’re definitely not buying DoorDash or UberEats talking about eating local (Becky was greatly offended by them dragging Sesame Street into this mess). Lily is embarrassed for Cheetos, Becky’s reaction can be best described as “it was so bad it’s meh”, and Shai was excited for Will Ferrell’s GM ad. Later in the episode, the sibs unpacked what they’ve been streaming, from season 2 of The Code and the Price is Right to Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Crazy-Ex Girlfriend (shoutout to Robin Coomer for the rec!), but let’s be real - it was Superbowl Sunday, and this one is all about the ads!
