This week on Commodity Conversations we have the team from Mecardo giving their insights and updates on what has been happening in the cattle, sheep and wool markets.   

With the cattle herd on the edge of an official herd rebuild and the sheep flock well on its way, tight supply isn’t about to wane anytime soon. This week Mecardo’s senior analyst Adrian Ladaniwskyj and Olivia Agar chat about how livestock prices are holding up during this time, and what drivers are currently at play.

Schneider Australia where they take stock of where the market has ended up after the last turbulent 12 months and where it may head in the next 12.   

Emissions targets have been heavily debated this week, and it’s sparked discussion across the agriculture industry. This week we have David Cornish from Marcus Oldham Agricultural college joining Olivia Agar to chat about the red meat industries carbon neutral 2030 target. David helps break down the discussion and also analyses the issues from key stake holders perspectives, from producers, industry groups, consumers and politicians. As always David is realistic about the current practical challenges farmers are presented with but is optimistic as ever about being proactive and engaging with our customers.

With a bumper harvest comes local price pressure, but overseas markets are abuzz and our growers are now reaping in good harvest and good prices. Nick Booth joins us this week to talk about the current market drivers - tight supplies, government interference and rampant buying activity by China.

On today's show we have Adam Mountjoy, southern region livestock manager for Nutrien in to talk with Robert Herrmann, director of Mercardo, about the bouyant market we find ourselves in at present. All our main commodity markets seem to be going strong at the moment, so we thought it would be good to get Adam in to hear what's been happening at the saleyards. Livestock commodity prices opened 2021 with a bang at the southern weaner sales. The weights, quality and prices were an impressive show. This week we have Angus Brown and Andrew Hosken joining Robert Hermann to discuss the results and what it means for the year ahead.
