The film is a coming of age story of Ruby, the child of deaf adults (CODA), and only hearing child of her parent's two children. Before discussing the film, Graham took a moment to explain why there was no episode of the podcast published last week, due to the fact that on Saturday August 14, 2021, Graham's country of origin, Haiti, was affected by a 7.2 earthquake just 11 years after being hit by one; which killed thousands of people and left hundreds of thousand Haitians homeless. Graham stated his family is okay, but for the better part of that weekend, he couldn't establish contact with other extended family members.
