Lee Harvey Oswald (October 18, 1939 – November 24, 1963) was an American sniper who allegedly assassinated President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. According to five U.S. government investigations, Oswald shot and killed Kennedy as he traveled by motorcade through Daley Plaza in the city of Dallas, Texas. Oswald was a former U.S. Marine who defected to the Soviet Union in October 1959. He lived in the Belarusian city of Minsk until June 1962, at which time he returned to the United States with his Russian wife, eventually settling in Dallas.
