Toad Road (2012 - movie) A true combination of Fact and Fiction and Weird, Matt Schwartz’s pick this week is a move from 2012. It was a few years in the making. The director sought a group of post-high school young adults who were living outside Philadelphia and partying. The film is part real footage, part scripted narrative, with ‘actors’ who are actually doing the drugs, passing out, getting in fights, and lighting each others pubic hair on fire. The fiction element is an urban legend of the area, a passage through a series of gates in the woods that are the path to hell. They also mirror the world of aimlessness nihilism and addiction that the people in the story are going through. Sadly the actress, Sara Anne John, who plays the female lead, died of an overdose shortly before the film’s release. She was an aspiring poet and model living in NYC.
