This series is a standout for the writer and producers.  Yoshitoshi ABe lent his talents as the character designer. He has designed for a number of series. Two great ones, as mentioned by Teylor; NieA 7 & Haibane Renmei. Lain explores the breakdown of self and mental health as well as existential questions in a world where we construct new realities and selves to fill a ‘virtual’ space. Lain is drawn and voice directed differently baed on the which aspect of her personality she takes on.
