Open Your Toys Cast

We're back with this year's Joecon coverage and it's Hasbro Archives panel which was nothing less than spectacular. Also this week, the Transformers Collectors Club drops some tidbits on Kre-O. WonderCon brings us some new MOTUC figures. Our featured custom is actually an entire line of B.A.T.ized vehicles. We take a look at the G1 Rodimus Prime "action figure". Finally, you guys ROCK! We get a ton of participation.

Speaking of participating, we picked a winner in our Toy Fair voicemail contest. However, first we both get all excited about me being registered for Botcon (which is now sold out). Kre-O and Cyberverse continue to peak my interest. Matty continues to disappoint fans. We got a metric crap ton of new toys including Fansproject Protector and start our Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime retrospective. Do you know what the greatest part of the show is? We got two first-time callers and a first-time question asker.

Have you ever looked into someone’s window and thought about what their life might be like? Well for this episode we let you peer into our window. In other words we indulge our egos and talk about ourselves the entire time. Have you ever wondered how Mrs. McFavorite and I got into collecting? Or maybe how we even met? If not, then go ahead and tune in next week when we’ll return with all the latest and greatest toy news. However, this episode will serve as a primer for any new listeners and hopefully as a means to let our regulars get to know the love of my life and myself even better.

This week we got some great news via that new fangled InterWeb. Have you seen the group shot of the Botcon set? If that doesn’t excite you, you better check your pulse kids. Dark of the Moon toy news has slowed down a little since Toy Fair, but the first figure has popped up at retail. We talk about the new Star Wars packaging and fawn over some amazing new West Wars figures by the one and only Sillof. Oh, oh and can you say Headmasters? That’s right, the Japanese-only continuation to original Transformers cartoon is finally coming to the states with a professional English dub. That’s good news as I make it a rule to never read TV. Finally, don’t forget to enter our Toy Fair giveaway. We listen to the first three entries on the show. All you gotta do is give us call at 720.235.TOYS (8697) and tell us what your favorite reveal was from Toy Fair 2011. We got a ridiculous stack of comics to give away, in addition to a toy from your franchise of choice.

How excited are you after Toy Fair? I guarantee you’re not more excited than me. WOW there are some great toys coming out in the foreseeable future. Perhaps my favorites are coming to San Diego Comic-Con. There’s the gigantic Death Star 14-pack of Star Wars Vintage Revenge of the Jedi carded figures. Coming a close second is the first ever official G.I. Joe Transformers cross-over Starscream Sky Striker WITH Pilot Cobra Commander and 3.75″ scaled Megatron Walther P38. In addition to “Starscream”, the Joe team showed a modern version of perhaps one of my most favorite 80’s toys, Sci Fi. Not to mention them taking advantage of my weakness for red repaints with the new Crimson H.I.S.S. Lastly Mattel continues to rock it out with their MOTUC line out. Their Faceless One, while not faceless still looks amazing and is a great addition for people like me that love obscure characters.

If you’ve seen the length of the show, you can probably tell we’re drinking again. But wow, almost three hours! So, yeah we go off. I suggest breaking it up into a couple or five sittings. First up, Transformers: ANIMATED STUNTICONS! We just got Drag Strip today. She’s real and she’s spectacular. SDCC passes sell out in one day. Transformers: Prime toys are so good they make me want to like the show. We take a look at possibly the coolest Snake Eyes figure ever. Tons of new waves are hitting and going up for pre-order. TFSource does right by collectors. Finally, can we have a moment of silence for my beloved Toyfare...

We’ve got a few lists this time around. First we get what seems to be a pretty complete one of the first wave of Dark of the Moon figures. Then I compare my top 5 2010 MOTUC figures to the peeps over at He-Man.org. A Walmart list reveals Generations Arcee and WARPATH! Don’t forget my list of toys for sale. Lotsa Star Wars toys are being leaked. Remember all those cool PoC vehicles we saw at SDCC and Joecon? Well they’re showing up and the best ones aren’t at Ross this time. We continue our G1 Ultra Magnus retrospective with his Classics version. Next up, City Commander. Finally we have some amazing Grab Brag for ya.

I know everything gets better with time, but damn we collectors (especially us 30 somethings) are getting amazing nods to our childhood. The Vintage Collection is putting out some amazing new figures. We are seeing Transformers I thought I would never see. To top it all off there is going to be a set of Joes I always wanted and one of my most favorite Christmas gifts ever. What can I say, life is good right now. Hope it is for you too.

Black Friday 2010

While we seem to have less news, we spend just as much time talking about it. There is a lot of Transformers news especially from Japan. Unfortunately the Transformers Q and A doesn’t produce much (as usual). However the bi-weekly Matty Q and A kind of does. Can you say Castle Grayskull? No, it’s not a confirmation, but you better start saving your pennies. Do you need anything Hasbro? The best sale in a very long time is happening right now. What are you waiting for go buy yourself a Christmas present or ten.

What keeps bringing you guys back? Is it habit or love? Whatever it is, here we are and there’s tons to talk about. We finally get a look at TVC wave 5 and yawn. MOTUC’s Panthor looks great. Mattel and the Four Horsemen sure know how to rock those bucks. Unfortunately even the fan projects are getting to be pretty meh. What is exciting me is next year’s Transformers line-up. Can’t wait for new versions of old school favorites like Wheeljack, Wreck-Gar, Scourge and KUP! Speaking of new version of old characters, the Pursuit of Cobra line continues to impress. Finally we got some great Lego tidbits so don’t forget to check out the show notes!

This time around the collectors clubs hit us over the head with their propaganda. We get tons of information about Masters of the Universe Classics both through a Q and A and boards. Quite a bit new product is starting to hit as well as some great pre-orders. We take a look at FrenzyRumble’s custom Warpath and review WST Ultra Magnus. STAR. WARS. In. The. 3D! Lastly, congratulations to Steve, our winner of the 2nd Annual Swag Away.

Rumors and confirmations are running rampant. We got mad Q and A's with Star Wars, Transformers and MOTU representing this week. We talk about some possibly very cool new stands. We rock out with our Millennium Falcons out. Gygor is our review of the week. Famed Star Wars author doing The Transformers Vault? The Horsemen show us perhaps one of the coolest figures ever. This week we get back to business. That’s right, TOYS! And unless you’ve been sequestered involuntarily, you know they’re hitting fast and furious. New waves from the big four (well three at least) have been hitting almost every week since SDCC. Believe it or not, we have con news already. KOs and fan made Transformers stuff still dominate the news. We talk about the last couple Matty MOTUC Q and A’s and look closer at what was revealed to Dan Curto of Rebelscum by Darryl Depriest of Hasbro. There are some great pre-orders up and we drop the details about our 2nd Annual Swag Away.

Celebration V was AMAZING. It was kind of like Comic-Con with multiple tracks of programming and tons of “celebrities”, but the difference was I wanted to see and do it ALL. My biggest disappointment was that I couldn’t. However, I did do most of the things that were tops on my list. Got to see Mark Hamill and even better, the creator, the big GL . Of course we hit the Hasbro panel with its smattering of new info/confirmations. The Clone Wars panels were great. Dave Filoni really knows how to walk that line between Lucas employee/protege and fan. Probably one of my most favorite panels was Gary Kurtz , the producer of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. I find people removed from the fandom usually have the best viewpoint on the saga as they don’t see everything through rose colored glasses.

Par for the course it’s about a month after San Diego Comic-Con. We’ve have finally posted photos, videos of the booths and my favorite part, videos of the panels. While I’m sure if you wanted to see them by now you have, but you have you heard them with my drunken “Yeah”s and ”Alright”s? The wrap ups, that’s right wrap ups, 2 of them (there was supposed to be a third, but we have been way too damn busy) are co-hosted by our homies from the big SD. One is a long time attendee. One tried to come to as much of SDCC as he could take, but turns out that wasn’t that much. I know right, how could he take for granted, this nerd nirvana? That’s why we love him.

So Botcon, I mean BOTCON! Of course, Botcon is definitely not the only thing going on. Even in these driest of dry times we've still gotta lot to yap about. Of course there's C5 news. We get looks at the newest MOTUC figures. There's lotsa of shady stuff going on, including Toy Fair Lego McQuarrie Boba Fett, Qui-Gon/Eopie mail-away, and fake AFAs? We've even got a G.I. Joe and Matty Q and A to boot. Not a lot going on in stores, at least here in the US, but online is still popping off with new pre-orders. We actually have another toy review. This time we look at the controversial Shadow Squadron ARC-170. Lastly...Thundercats Hooooo!

I registered for Botcon. Did you? What number were you? I didn’t even get close to the first 100, but if feels good to have that done. I’m getting really excited. We talk about all the new guests for C5 and guess how I’ll be spending an extra $60 at SDCC. We highlight the best news from the latest Star Wars and Matty Collector Q and A’s. Not much out there, but we still manage to get a ton o’stuff. We review one of the most articulated 3.75” figure ever. Finally, tons of Grab Bag for ya.
