S11E5 Guest Special: Dave McPherson
05/08/2021 Duración: 01h42minIn the first of this seasons guest specials, John is joined by former Rangers and Hearts defender, and 27 capped Scotland Internationalist, Dave McPherson. Dave begins by talking about his current role as Director at Global Sports Recruitment, which involves setting up young, aspiring athletes of many sports to go to America to take on scholarships. We then move onto Dave's first spell at Rangers which, although challenging for the club, was great for him in terms of establishing a boyhood dream by playing for the club week-in week-out. After two League Cups and a title win in Graeme Souness's first season at Ibrox, he moved to Hearts, and told us about how the Edinburgh derby compared to the Old Firm rivalry and how a few extra signings could've made the difference for a title push in 91/92. It was during his first spell at Tynecastle that Dave McPherson became a Scotland International, making his debut in a World Cup qualifier in 1989 against Cyprus at Hampden. He went onto play every game at Italia '90 a

S11E4 Football's Back (Domestic Bliss)
03/08/2021 Duración: 01h56minOn our latest episode, regulars John, Scott M and Tony are joined by debutant Colin. Colin is no stranger to a podcast as involved with Peterhead one along with being busy with their TV streaming service and writing about the beautiful game. It's a great week to have two Celtic fans on in a week that was pretty miserable for them but they try to take some of the positives and not be overly critical. We bounce between Europe and the League Cup with regards to it effectively being preseason for the majority of clubs. This leads to interesting discussion on whether we like group football or would prefer a return to knockout football from the off. Colin responds to predictions of Peterhead struggling this season and discusses the ambition of the club and the strength of community. The podcast concludes with some fantasy football chat, lower league predictions and random celebrity encounters with some surprising 3am DM's. There’s a wee bit of reminiscing from Ally and him with regards to pre match meals at Clydebank and what it meant if you got chips with your meal. We preview the Championship, League One and League Two with regards to who we think will win it, be competing for playoffs and who we think may be relegated. Throughout we look at some of the best signings and possible players to watch out for. There are views too from our listeners in terms of what they expect from th

Can Rangers make it two league titles in a row? Who will be involved in the battle for the top six and who is facing a relegation battle? Surely no one cares about that when the real battle is for 8th place. We preview the upcomin

S11E1 European Excitement
20/07/2021 Duración: 01h41minIt's the start of a new podcast season and John is joined by Erin and Scott M to preview our teams who are playing in Europe this week. The show kicks off by looking over the end of Euro 2020 and a win for Calcio in an entertaining tournament. S10E83 Euro 2020 Group D Special
21/06/2021 Duración: 01h34minOn the latest podcast the two John's and Scott are delighted to welcome returning guest Russell from 3 Lions Podcast and a first time guest in Lovre from the Croatian Footy Podcast. We did ask Scott if he would act as the Czech Republic representative but he passed. The discussion naturally focuses on the group so far as we discuss how our respective teams have done, what has gone well and what hasn't. As everyone knows going in to the last game any of the teams could qualify for the knockout stages. There is good natured banter between us all as we preview the final games in the group. We round up the podcast with discussion on who has impressed and who has under performed. Thanks to our guests for coming on and may we finish off by saying COME ON SCOTLAND! S10E82 Scotland Schickened
15/06/2021 Duración: 01h48minOn our latest Euros special we have the two John's on, Scott and Ross who makes his second appearance on the podcast. Ross is in the process of writing a book about France '98 which we discuss towards the end of the podcast. Last week we were full of positivity and we've tried to stay on that journey despite the result against Czech Republic. There was hope and expectation but it was not to be. The guys discuss where it potentially went wrong in terms of selection, tactics and more. Maybe on another day we take our chances... There is plenty of laughter which seems bizarre and it surrounds food for a surprise. From a football point of view we need to remember that this is an inexperienced squad which seems to be constantly learning and reacting to situations. Can we cause a shock against the Auld Enemy? We select who we'd like to start. We discuss the tournament in general so far and who has impressed us plus what we are looking forward to. Tribute is paid to Motherwell fan Andy Paterson who was a recent

S10E81 Euros Extravaganza Preview
10/06/2021 Duración: 02h31minWe have a seven a side team that needs no introduction as we preview Euro 2020 but I'll give you one anyway. The two John's are joined by regulars from this season Donald, Scott and Tony plus Krys makes a welcome return and we have the star of Mr Brown's Boys in Iain from The Famous Tartan Army Magazine. It's been 23 years since we qualifies for a tournament but even longer since we were last in the Euros. Once again we've been paired with the Auld Enemy and some familiar faces in Croatia and Czech Republic. It's been that long since we last qualified that podcasts weren't even a thing. The podcast covers predictions in terms of who will line up for Scotland in the first game. Can we get past the group stage for the first time in our history? There is a belief around the players and fans that we can possibly do something special. Can we dare to dream? It's been a long journey and one that we didn't maybe believe would happen but we're a team which has been transformed under the leadership of Saint Steve as

S10E80 Euros Bonanza
06/06/2021 Duración: 02h22minIn the latest of our Euros preview specials, John has THREE guests on the one show as he is joined by Hampden Announcer Graeme Easton, Sky Sports News reporter Charles Paterson, and Scotland fan Neil Doherty, who has written a book based on Scotland's last major tournament adventure. We start by reviewing Scotland's 2-2 draw with Netherlands in the first of two pre-tournament warm up matches. The consensus is that Scotland could take many positives from the performance and why we can go into the tournament with no fear. Naturally, this leads us to thinking about the last Euro's we played at in Euro '96 and some of our earliest memories watching Scotland at a major finals, and why there is a belief that this crop can go one better than their sides of the past by reaching the knockout phases. Neil then tells us about his book, "World Cup 1998: Scotland's story", where he got the inspiration from, the research he put in and how deep he went into writing the story. He also gives an insight into going about prod

S10E79 Euros Commentators Special 2: Rory Hamilton
04/06/2021 Duración: 01h36sIn part two of our Euro's commentators special, John is joined by Rory Hamilton, Scotland's voice for BT and Premier Sports. Rory tells us all about his summer job, commentating on Scotland's games for STV at the Euro's. He talks about the honour of being asked to be the channels voice for the Finals, including the England v Scotland game being broadcast on STV, and how easy a decision it became when it was uncertain that fans could be at the tournament. Rory then goes into his memories of supporting Scotland at World Cup's and European Championships in the 90's, why it's taken us so long to qualify again, and what it was like for a man who followed Scotland abroad for 15 years to watch that moment at home with his dog. We then discuss Scotland's chances of doing well and getting rid of that "glorious failure" tag that irritates Rory before rounding off with Rory making some amendments to his best Scotland XI. Having now got the tournament bug after a 58 year wait, Wales have qualified again and Russell assesses their chances of getting out of a very difficult group, with Italy, Turkey and Switzerland in their section. S10E75 Super Six Special
27/05/2021 Duración: 01h53minFor the last podcast of the domestic season we have assembled a side a side team to discuss the season in the Premiership. The two John's are joined by Greig, Krys, Nory and Scott. We discuss the success of St Johnstone and their remarkable achievement of winning a cup double. Can they keep hold of Davidson? There is chat surrounding other teams and missed opportunities. Who have been the signings of the season? There is no debate really over what the guys regard as the poorest signing of the season. Are clubs giving managers enough time in the job? There is some surprise that Steven Gerrard is now the longest serving manager in the Premiership. There were six managerial changes over the course of the season and two announced they will be leaving their clubs at the end of the season. Clubs have already started releasing players ahead of next season where there looks like there will be massive changes at the likes of Aberdeen, Celtic and Motherwell in particular. To conclude the podcast we announce our up

S10E74 Euros Fans Special 1: 3 Lions Podcast
24/05/2021 Duración: 51minIn the first of three fans specials featuring the home nations, John chats with England fan, and host of the 3 Lions Podcast, Russell Osbourne. Russell begins by telling us his podcasting journey, and how it's kicked on with a mix of reviews on all the England teams and a few retro podcasts, including one about the first ever International back in 1872. He then tells us about his England experience, which started by getting a ticket for the Scotland game at Euro '96 (we don't want to discuss that one) and what it's like following them at several major finals. We round off with some quickfire questions, including an interesting choice of favourite football food and a six aside England team. S10E73 Scottish Cup Final Preview
18/05/2021 Duración: 01h30minThis week John is joined by St Johnstone fan Nory and ex Hibs player Kevin Harper as we look ahead to the Scottish Cup final. We discuss how we expect the game to go, possible selection issues and who will win. No surprise on either side as to what the guests think. The merits of both managers being candidates for Manager of the year are discussed when you consider what has been achieved regardless of the result on Saturday. Kevin gives particular focus to how the game in Scotland could develop with more youngsters getting their chance at an earlier age. He agrees with Ally Graham who was on last week that the reserve league should return. This leads on to chat about the Celtic and Rangers Colts teams being accepted to the Lowland League. The podcast concludes with Kevin talking about his football academy and launch of a youth team that he has set up in Glasgow. S10E72 Ally G Indaplayoffs
11/05/2021 Duración: 01h13minThis week John is joined by ex footballer Ally Graham to give an assessment of what happened in the Lower Leagues this season. Ally gives his predictions in terms of who he thinks will win the playoffs and we reflect on the predictions that we made at the start of the season. We discuss whether it is better having constant games or a break during the playoffs and whether the structure of them is correct. A couple of Ally's old clubs have had successful seasons but there is surprise news with Ray McKinnon leaving Queen's Park after they won League Two. The Lowland League proposed that Celtic and Rangers colts teams join the league which we both agree is ridiculous and a slap in the face for those teams who are trying to climb the pyramid. The podcast concludes with discussion about mental health in football from when Ally finished playing and looking forward to the Euros. S10E71 Euros Special: The Media
10/05/2021 Duración: 01h57minDid you hear the one about the Welshman, the Englishman and the Scotsman walking onto a Podcast? In the first of our preview specials for this summers delayed Euro 2020 Finals, John spoke to men from media outlets of the three home nations in the tournament to assess their chances of progression. First up was Ian Mitchellmore of Wales Online. Ian purrs over his nation's incredible run to the Euro 2016 Semi Finals five years ago, including that memorable Quarter Final win over Belgium largely thanks to a sublime goal from Hal Robson-Kanu. He then talks through the job that Ryan Giggs and Robert Page have done to get the team to this summer's finals and their chances in a tough group containing Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. The recording was done prior to the announcement that Giggs won't be at the Euro's due to his recent assault charges. Ian is also hoping to be going to the Finals as part of his role so fingers crossed all works out for him. Next up, we had Sky Sports commentator Gary Taphouse to get an

S10E70 Motherwell 30 Year Scottish Cup Anniversary Special
05/05/2021 Duración: 02h07minThirty years ago this month, Motherwell won the Scottish Cup after a memorable 4-3 victory over Dundee United in one of the greatest Scottish Cup Finals of all time. Along the way, they defeated holders Aberdeen, First Division sides Falkirk and Morton, and Celtic en route to their success. In this special feature, we hear from four guests giving their memories of that Cup run.
