  • Domestic Violence & Poverty

    15/05/2020 Duración: 59min

National Resource Center on Domestic Violence When people think of domestic abuse, they often focus on domestic violence. But domestic abuse includes any attempt by one person in an intimate relationship or marriage to dominate and control the other. Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain total control over you. An abuser doesn’t “play fair.” An abuser uses fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down and keep you under their thumb. Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone; it does not discriminate. Abuse happens within heterosexual relationships and in same-sex partnerships. It occurs within all age ranges, ethnic backgrounds, and economic levels. And while women are more often victimized, men also experience abuse especially verbal and emotional. The bottom line is that abusive behavior is never acceptable, whether from a man, woman, teenager, or an older adult. You deserve to feel valued, respected, and safe. Domestic abuse often e

  • A Conversation with US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

    20/08/2019 Duración: 01h12min

Hurst Lecture Series: US Senator Mitch McConnell, senior Republican from Kentucky, in conversation with Aspen Institute President and CEO Walter Isaacson. I shared this for a few reasons. Initially I listened to find out how the republican mind thinks, and a reasonable conversation is a great way to get that information. Then as I listened I realized that this Mitch is not todays Mitch. This Mitch is pre-Trump. Touting bipartisan accomplishments, and speaking conservatively but in a manor that really showed he was proud of the way in which the Senate was being run under him.It left me with the question. Where did Mitch and the other Republicans go? I understand that republicans saw Obama as running ruff shot over the process, pushing things through, and as well see that Mitch sees trump as payback for Obama. But Mitch, if you read this please know. Trump is bad at a fundamental level. Even conservatives that agree with you on policy, can’t continue this course of political vengeance. Obama was mean to Repub

New technologies – robots, software, artificial intelligence – have already destroyed more than 4 million US jobs, and in the next 5-10 years, they will eliminate millions more. A third of all American workers are at risk of permanent unemployment. And this time, the jobs will not come back. I’m not a career politician—I’m an entrepreneur who understands the economy.
