“The truth shall set you free” is one of the most well-known and oft-repeated sayings of Jesus. John’s gospel records it, and countless people have said it in a variety of contexts over the last 2,000 years. However, it’s important to ask: if the truth sets you free, what does a lie do for you? If the truth sets you free and someone chooses to lie to you, they are obviously trying to keep you bound. This is what happens in Matthew 28:11-15. Within the first 24 hours after Jesus’s death, people were already meeting to fabricate a story to cover up the truth. Why would they do that? Because the truth — especially the truth about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus — will set you free. This week, we are exploring what really happened on that first Easter in a message called “The Reality of Easter.”

As we remember the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we believe in the power of His death for our sins, burial and His resurrection so that we can have an opportunity for eternal life. As Christians, we believe in what Jesus did because we hold fast to His Word. One of the reasons we hold fast to His Word is that we believe in the scriptures. We were not there when Jesus went through everything He went through at Calvary, so we have to make a conscious decision to believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the scriptures are what we believe in and also what we get our strength from. In this message, Pastor Dobbs will be teaching us why believe in the resurrection and what keeps our faith strong in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Join us online: OCCVR.org

Our actions did not make us sinners likewise they cannot make us righteous. The first Adam's offence caused condemnation to all of those who came after him. Because of his act we are all born sinners. The obedience of Jesus Christ (the last Adam) brought the free gift of justification to all who choose to be born again. When we are born again the blood of Jesus makes our spirit perfect. As we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit our souls are matured and made perfect. Many of us would agree that the world needs saving, and it seems like everyone is looking for a hero. As babies, we cry for others to come feed, clean and hold us, and as children, we cry in the dark for parents to chase away the monsters of our imagination. Even as adults, we view elected officials or celebrities as heroes. Although 2,000 years separate us from the events of Matthew 21, we’re really no different from the people who lined the road to Jerusalem on that first Palm Sunday. They were holding out for a hero, too. This week, Pastor Robby Williams helps us explore the ways in which Jesus — more than any comic book character, athlete, movie star or politician — is our true hero.

When Jesus was on His way back to Jerusalem, He had two of His disciples to go get a colt that had never been rode and to bring it to Him. When they brought it back, they put their clothes on it and He rode into Jerusalem. As He was riding, they put their clothes and palm trees in His path, whereas we e get Palm Sunday, which was approximately a week before His crucifixion. On the way, they started to think about the mighty works that He had done, and broke out into a loud praise. Pastor Dobbs will be teaching us how be determined to praise God for He is a God that has done mighty works in our life. The first covenant, the law, was performance based. If you did good, you received good. If you did bad, you received bad. The sacrifices of animals had to be made continually and still only the outward person was cleansed. It did nothing for the inward person. Jesus came to fulfill the first covenant and establish the second covenant of grace. Because of His one and only sacrifice we have been forever redeemed. His blood cleanses us from the inside out. The penalty of sin is no longer attached to us. We are free! kingdomrock.org
