Ilhan Omar Addresses Council On American-Islamic Relations
15/04/2019 Duración: 26minAt Public Access America we believe in offering full content as so to allow our listeners to determine for themselves how to feel. Personally I’m of the belief that free speech is imperative to our democracy. Plus a diverse discourse is why America is what it is today. We will never ask you to feel a certain way about representative Omar, but I will admit to admiring her for taking the chance to speak in an environment that is trying to silence her. In this day and age of clipped content, where people make up their minds based on divided partisan and political ideals, I only hope you listen to a full speech and realize that content is edited on both sides to make you feel, when in fact you should hear, If in fact you care, and decide based on the entirety of the facts. CAIR-LA was honored to have Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) as the featured speaker for the 4th Annual Valley Banquet. https://ca.cair.com/losangeles/event/4th-annual-valley-banquet/ Born in Somalia, Ilhan and her family fled the country’s c

Perry v. Schwarzenegger Oral Arguments P2
14/04/2019 Duración: 01h27minPerry v. Schwarzenegger Oral Arguments - U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. A panel of three federal judges heard arguments in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the Proposition 8 (or the California Marriage Protection Act) case. The 9th Circuit heard an appeal of an August ruling by U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who presided over a trial that found the ban on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional. The first hour of the hearing lawyers addressed issues of legal authority, or standing. The second hour addressed the merits of the appeal. Proposition 8, known informally as Prop 8, was a California ballot proposition and a state constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008 California state elections. The proposition was created by opponents of same-sex marriage in advance of the California Supreme Court's May 2008 appeal ruling, In re Marriage Cases, which followed the short-lived 2004 same-sex weddings controversy and found the previous ban on same-sex marriage (Proposition 22, 2000)

President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address
03/11/2018 Duración: 18minHappy Saturday! So ahead of these all important midterms, just before the finish line, I thought perhaps a bit of inspiration was in order. Let’s play to our better angels and go back to a hopefully moment in history. Lets listen to the hopeful words of change and equality. The inauguration of John F. Kennedy as the 35th President of the United States was held on Friday, January 20, 1961 at the eastern portico of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.. The inauguration marked the commencement of John F. Kennedy's only term as President. Kennedy took office following the November 1960 presidential election, in which he narrowly defeated Richard Nixon, the then–incumbent Vice President. He was the first Catholic to become President, and became the youngest person elected to the office. His inaugural address encompassed the major themes of his campaign and would define his presidency during a time of economic prosperity, emerging social changes, and diplomatic challenges. This inauguration was the

We’ve learned to not chase the president down rabbit holes and to continue the discussion of need and want. Yeah Americans are scared, but not of the hordes of women and children thousands of miles away from our border. Not of the Fake news. Outlets can continue to spotlight Trump, and you will lose ratings doing it. America cares about topics that affect our daily lives, the fact that racism is a grey scale across the country, That abuse of power is not partisan, That civil rights are human rights and every human in America is promised the right to pursue happiness. The hate that is being created at the top of the Republican Party is simply highlighting the divide between Americans and political party. While the atmosphere is filled with ads of anger, and fear, and division, while down in the grass real conversations are being had. Americans are talking to each other, leaving

Margaret Sanger
01/11/2018 Duración: 30minSanger popularized the term "birth control", opened the first birth control clinic in the #UnitedStates, and established organizations that evolved into the #PlannedParenthood of #America. Sanger used her writings and speeches primarily to promote her way of thinking. She was prosecuted for her book #FamilyLimitation under the #ComstockAct in 1914. She was afraid of what would happen, so she fled to Britain until she knew it was safe to return to the US. Sanger's efforts contributed to several judicial cases that helped #legalize #contraception in the United States. Due to her connection with Planned Parenthood, Sanger is a frequent target of criticism by opponents of #abortion. However, Sanger drew a sharp distinction between birth control and abortion and was opposed to abortion through the bulk of her career. Sanger remains an admired figure in the American #ReproductiveRights movement. She has been criticized for supporting #eugenics. In 1916, Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in

Kanye - Visits The White House
27/10/2018 Duración: 30min“If he don’t look good we don’t look good” In an extended soliloquy that touched on racism, tax breaks, prison reform, mental health and the need for art programs in schools, Kanye West, rapper-activist, used his meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday to offer a platform on issues he feels are most important to the African American community. I mean I’m not sure how much time combined in that room has been spent in the communities that are being discussed , but I’m sure two guys faking their way through a press conference will come up with the exact solutions needed. “No. I’m not asking you for a tax break so I can sell shoes to those same underprivileged communities.” “Cool, because I’ll pretend I’m not a slum lord, son of a slum lord that both inherited, as well as made my own money off of those communities.” Now let’s find some thing else to blame. Maybe the liberal media for asking normal questions, or the democrats because yeah. They perpetuate welfare. Apparently racism is n

ERA
26/10/2018 Duración: 27min"I’d rather go down in history as one lone Negro who dared to tell the government that it had done a dastardly thing than to save my skin by taking back what I said." Ida B. Wells The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution designed to guarantee equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex; it seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment, and other matters. The ERA was originally written by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman. The amendment was introduced in Congress for the first time in 1921 and has prompted conversations about the meaning of legal equality for women and men ever since. In the early history of the Equal Rights Amendment, middle-class women were largely supportive, while those speaking for the working class were often opposed, pointing out that employed women needed special protections regarding working conditions and employment hours. With the rise of the women's
