This week i have a muse, a moment of reflection on the idea of use it or lose it and how as a sentence it's a very human phrase. We often feel like we're missing out in some way or that we're abandoning a practice but overall it's nonsense. It's our anxiety of facing challenge in something we knew we were previously good at. I'm in the midst of Inktober and a couple other challenges i set myself as well as recovering from being ill and faced this idea many times. If I stop making will i never make again? Will I forget how to draw? how to cook? How to use stairs?Who knows. This week i talk emotional intelligence and well being and how creative efforts can give younger people an outlet which prevents them becoming emotional stunted adults. We've all me them, the temper tantrums, the poor winners the adults who have struggled to get to their age without realising that the chorus of the world does not sing for them. So what's the answer? Ever watched Mamma Mia? No? ever watched the second? No? Me Either but I was captivated by a video I saw online which came very close to convincing me other wise. This week I get a treat and get to go to Brooklyn to meet Dave Zackin. Dave is an artist who's work I've been following for a while and I hadn't realized was local to NY but after being shown the way I was able to reach out and we decided to sit down in person and have a catch up. Urgh toxic behaviour am I right? We all have it. Some more than others, some are working through it, some are ignoring it but what's at the core of it is you're stuck with it at least for a little while. One thing I've tried to do through my life is address myself and think about what that means to me.
