Episode 189 - Creating comics & "The difficult women" Feat Lucy Sullivan
29/04/2022 Duración: 01h12minThis week I get to sit back and chat with comic creator Lucy Sullivan Lucy's work i discovered during Hackney Zine fest and her book "Barking" and quickly fell for it. She has a powerful style and creates fantastic art work about subjects which really cut to the core of humanity. We caught up to talk not only her work in comic but animation and the challenges within creating something like a graphic novel. Whilst all touching on what she terms this idea of being "A difficult women". That brings its own challenges in an industry which has been dominated by men and is still struggling at times to find a balance of representation. We also get into the toxicity of online and the need to step back look at the world and think "Am I really having the argument I'd have in person?"She created amazing work so check her out below:https://lucysullivanuk.com/https://www.instagram.com/lucysullivanuk/https://twitter.com/lucysullivanukhttps://www.facebook.com/lucysullivanuk/Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling

Episode 188 - It's harder to ignore me than you think.
15/04/2022 Duración: 22minIgnore someone and they'll stop right? Right?! No that's not true, ignore someone and depending on their countenance for your approval they will continue or escalate what they do in order to get your attention of simply because they didn't care in the first place.Something I was taught early as a child was not to do things for approval and whilst that is damaging as it teaches you to never seek approval even when you need it to progress it also means you're pretty hard to stop. So this week I talk about how ignoring art wont make it go away and will likely strengthen the lengths at least I am willing to go to to keep making it!Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteYou can support the show and Graham by visitingwww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretewww.yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.comwww.ko-fi.com/yellingatconcrete See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 187 - Drunk monks and folklore fun Feat Amy Boucher (NearlyKnowledgable)
08/04/2022 Duración: 53minThis week we're back on our folk history grind. In wanting to find out more about the folk world and the history or all things word of mouth I caught up with Amy Boucher who is a writer and researcher of all things folk tale. From the black country of the UK I.e out Birmingham way for those who don't know she caught me up on a few tales of the black death and drunk monks. We also discuss how superstition became part of society and how it was potentially used to deal with trauma and humans simply wanting an escape rather than as a way of making stories memorable. We sift through the cracks of what it means to be part of the folk lexicon and how country and urban stories tend to have different tones as well as having a good old chat about the world at hand. You can find out more about Amy and read her work athttps://nearlyknowledgeablehistory.blogspot.com/https://twitter.com/g0blinegghttps://linktr.ee/NearlyKnowledgeableItuneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open

Episode 186 - You don't get to retire from humanity.
01/04/2022 Duración: 22minThis week I get introspective and talk my long term plan for myself, my dreams and how that has evolved over the years from when I was a kid wanting to lock myself in a room and tell everyone else to sod off to now where I want to lock myself in a room and help everyone else how they can get their own room.Retiring from humanity is something the bitter, the hurt, the ultra rich want to do but you can't you cant as you're human and until cyborgs rule the world there isn't going to be change for that so lets talk hurt. Lets talk emotional growth and lets talk rebuilding a system where people have the tools to do that. Also weirdly lets talk five year plans and my own life.Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteYou can support the show and Graham by visitingwww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretewww.yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.comwww.ko-fi.com/yellingatconcrete See acast.com/pr

Episode 184 - Are you living rich or living well?
11/03/2022 Duración: 24minThroughout my life I have been told one thing often. "We don't have much but we have enough" and this is a true statement of my youth and something I try to maintain today. SO today we're doing a dive on wealth. Some would say again. But this week I'm talking about this aspiration for wealth which has overtaken the main media as the main goal. I ask which goal you're on and look into the difference between the two terms. I'm almost definitely verging on telling you how to live in this one but more so asking why is there a want to live "rich?" When you could build something much more substantial than wealth. So? Are you living rich or are you living well?Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteYou can support the show and Graham by visitingwww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretewww.yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.comwww.ko-fi.com/yellingatconcrete See acast.com/privacy for privacy

Episode 182 - The trouble with Tony's Chocolate
18/02/2022 Duración: 24minThis week I do something I never really do and get specific about a company but it's hard not to when they are setting a good example! So I'll prefix this with Tony's chocolate I have not idea if you're reading this but I love your product but you do pose a conundrum conceptually. If you haven't guessed this week I sit down to talk about the "recent" advent calendar controversy surrounding chocolate company Tony's who make amazing ethically produced products however the format in which they spread their message is one of contention so we're here to discuss! Is ethical bullying a thing? Can you price out an audience and greenwashing from clothing brands as I take a dive at discussing when concept overrides consumer and as whether "Chocolonely" is actually a product or just a concept piece of art?Tony's explaining themselveshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ha2IUUHUZ8Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://s

Episode 180 - Making yourself the target.
04/02/2022 Duración: 19minThis week I sit down to discuss my own self destructive behaviour, curious of if others do the same but also reasoning why I noticed it and how that relates to my own self worth. I found over the years it's a reaction I've used to many situations and noticed it in other of in moments of peril or strife that I can turn the conversation or the moment to be less dangerous by making myself the butt of the joke. It's all smoke and mirrors for the rodeo clown but at what cost? 14/01/2022 Duración: 28minIf there is one thing which irks me it's Gatekeeping, whether it be in education, fashion, music, hobbies you name if there is a level of gate keeping going on I'm going to either. A. Find the key and duplicate it to get past you or B. Irritate you to a point where you have to acknowledge your ridiculousness. We get a lot of it in society and have seen it hugely in alternative and gothic culture as well as hobbies and gaming so lets discuss why this happens and the degree to which people will go to to keep those gates closed. Yelling at Concrete Podcast - (2022 Trailer)
31/12/2021 Duración: 04minYelling at concrete podcast is a three times a month podcast hosted by myself "Graham".Founded in 2017 I have been finding and catching up with guests and friends for what will be five seasons going into 2022! Each week a new cast goes up and a new topic is discussed. In solo episodes Graham dives into a thought or idea attempting to bring some sort of balance to the chaos which is online discussion and follows the thought do discuss his own ideas. Where as in episodes with a guest we're in their world as the guest picks the topic! Graham has no say in what's coming and thus gives people who have passionate interests and ideas to just have a platform for an hour with an open ear to talk about it.Unlike other podcasts we thrive and are here for the conversation and the more abstract that is the more balanced it is. It's all about creating discussion and conversation and truly taking advantage of that hour to talk round an idea not just give a soundbite. The Yelling at concrete podcast was formed out of a cup o

Episode 175 - Bread cars & Meat musings
19/11/2021 Duración: 25minThis week i sit down to talk in the inevitable about the move to vegetarianism I made within the last couple of years. It was a move which took a few people by surprise including myself and in doing so I thought it worth exploring the reasons for my change the thoughts i have on the food industry and simply what I mean when I say bread cars. It's not about ethics or protecting animals it more about putting more time and thought into what I'm eating and considering the process I'm part of.Not looking to convert or preach to anyone and mainly covering it as I've been asked a few times so here's the explanation!Ituneshttps://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yelling-at-concrete/id1238765054Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3T2OhYE07edgaBDXrm86saAcasthttps://shows.acast.com/yellingatconcreteFor more of Graham visitwww.facebook.com/yellingatconcretewww.instagram.com/yellingatconcretehttps://yellingatconcrete.bigcartel.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 174 - The old Youtube.
12/11/2021 Duración: 21minThat's right it's time for old man Graham to put on his shoes and socks and take a walk down memory lane for a big old grumble about the internet and social media and everything wrong with the platform whilst simultaneously still being on the platform. This week I get nostalgic for old website, blogs, zines and everything in between as i attempt to explain the beauty of the old internet and how it encouraged us all comparative to the day we're in now where platforms such as youtube, facebook and instagram belittle our creations by hiding them behind pay walls for advertising.Overall I encourage you to still be weird, still be odd and go write that blog no one will read because if you don't who will.
