  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – The Shining (Stephen King) Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: The Shining (1980)

    05/11/2021 Duración: 02h19min

Two books into this whole Stephen King Retrospective (though it is in fact the third book) and we might have hit the plateau. The Shining has an interesting set of distinctions in the author's bibliography. It remains one of the author's most popular books among readers. Yet, the original film adaptation has sparked more debate than anything that has ever been adapted. Is it a question of Stanley Kubrick taking the novel's contents and changing them in the name of the author, whom Kubrick had called 'a brat'? Or, is it really one of the scariest movies ever made, and King's shots at it over the unwarranted? Listen in as myself, Matt, and Adam rejoin to answer some of this debate. We've been doing this podcast for a number of years at this point. Yet, I have never been part of a retrospective that is as unpredictable as this one. After Adam shares the story of how he saw this for the first time (hint, it involved me), we get into the crazy making of Kubrick's one entry in the horror genre, The Shining. Is the

  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – Halloween Retrospective w/ Jason Morris and Doug Wicker: Halloween Kills (2021)

    29/10/2021 Duración: 02h01min

In 1978, a little known director by the name of John Carpenter relinquished Halloween on an unsuspecting public. At the time, it was the most profitable independent film of all time, and is credited with beginning what came to be known as the slasher era of horror. After sequel upon sequel was released to mixed results, with the cultivation being the Busta Rhymes starring Halloween Resurrection in 2002, people thought the legend of Michael Myers was done forever. Even horror lover Rob Zombie failed to leave a positive lasting impression with his two retellings of the Michael mythos in the 2000s.Sometimes I look at the year and cannot believe what I'm seeing happen around it. For example, Michael Myers had a run in the late 70s-late 80s where he was one of our most popular slashers. But when the 90s made him pretty much obsolete, everyone counted him out of making a comeback. Rob Zombie's attempts -at least the first one- to resurrect the character and story was a hit with audiences. But after his second film

  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – James Bond Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: No Time To Die (2021)

    15/10/2021 Duración: 02h54s

Before Star Wars, there was Bond. James Bond. It is a film franchise that has inspired everyone in in the industry from Steven Spielberg to Christopher Nolan to Rian Johnson. Eight actors have (unofficially) played the character over its almost sixty years in existence. And there is another one coming out this April. So what better time for the Binge Movie Aftertaste to gear up and cover a franchise that has been requested for years. Myself, Adam, and Matt are going to fire through a gun barrel the entire 26 film franchise, cultivating in a review of Cary Fukunaga's No Time To Die, which is being heralded as Daniel Craig's final bow as the character.Normally I spend this space giving bullshit behind the scenes stories in preparation for the movie review you are about to hear. But given this movie has been delayed so many times, and we have waited so long to finally review it, how about we waste zero time in getting things going?Enjoy! • Binge Movie Aftertaste – The Thing Retrospective w/ Mik Duffy and Matthew Goudreau: The Thing (2011)

    08/10/2021 Duración: 01h23min

Nowadays horror remakes are a dime a dozen. But if you were to ask any contemporary horror fan what their favorite remake of all time is, chances are they'll say John Carpenter's 1982 remake of The Thing From Another World. Or as he called it, The Thing. But what was it about that first film which made Carpenter want to tackle it at the pinnacle of his career? And what about the 2011 Mary Elizabeth Winstead starring attempt to reboot (retell, sequelize) it? Join myself, Matt, and the returning Mik Duffy as we attempt to answer these questions. After John Carpenter's 1982 version of The Thing came and went with a whimper, there were zero plans to bring the nihilistic vision back for another go around. But something happened once Thing killer E.T. exited theaters and the downslide of Carpenter's career started. The Thing was given more looks, and before pundits knew it, the movie was one of cable tv's most watched films. It started appearing on horror lists year after year. And, unbelievably, it got a damn video

And what about the 2011 Mary Elizabeth Winstead starring attempt to reboot (retell, sequelize) it? Join myself, Matt, and the returning Mik Duffy as we attempt to answer these questions.Director John Carpenter was in a spot of power in 1982. His first horror film Halloween had already become a bonafide hit, and while The Fog didn't set the box office afire, it gained him even more respect within horror circles. Then, when fellow horror savant Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) was taken off a project that would have brought Howard Hawks' vision to terrifying life in the 80s, Carpenter was more than happy to take the reigns of The Thing from his h

Join myself, Matt, and the returning Mik Duffy as we attempt to answer these questions. There have been many filmmakers covered on the Binge Movie Aftertaste. But one which has been left out in the cold is Howard Hawks. Often called one of the greatest storytellers of all time, Hawks had done everything from the original Scarface to Red River. But in 1951, Hawks took it upon himself to enter the realm of science fiction by adapting the story Who Goes There by John A Stewart. But while the directing credit lies with Christian Nyby, ther are people who say it
