Clare Fianna Fáil TD Says Party "Not A Police Force" Following Gavin Withdrawal
06/10/2025 Duración: 09minA Clare Fianna Fáil TD has defended his party's presidential election candidate selection process which he says isn't a "police force" but admits members "feel let down". Jim Gavin has backed out of the race for the Áras following reports that he owes a former tenant €3,300. Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher, who sought the party's nomination in August, has described the debacle as a "very serious miscalculation by the party leadership, while its Deputy Leader Jack Chambers says there'll be a meeting to "discuss the campaign". Meelick Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons he believed in his "heart and soul" that Jim Gavin was the right man for the job.

Clare People Reminded Only Accidental Incidents Can Lead To Successful Insurance Claim
06/10/2025 Duración: 04minClare people are being reminded that only accidental storm-related incidents could result in a successful insurance claim. It comes after 5,500 properties in Clare lost power over the weekend as strong winds associated with Storm Amy battered the county. A new survey has found that just 26% of people say they would secure their garden furniture and check their windows and doors ahead of a storm. Figures from Insurance Ireland meanwhile show January's Storm Éorwyn was Ireland's most expensive storm-related insurance event in history with claims exceeding €301 million. Head of Claims at Campion Insurance Stephen McKenna says claims can't be made for avoidable incidents.

Calls For Standardised Taxi Fares From Shannon Airport

The practice is already in place at various international airports, such as in Paris, Rome and Madrid where pre-determined fees are in place for trips to the city centre. The measure has now been touted for destinations near Shannon, Dublin and Cork and has been referred to the National Transport Authority for consideration. Fine Gael TD Barry Ward, who's proposed the move says it would benefit drivers and tourists alike.

Lack Of Energy Aid Funding Slammed "As Clare People Struggle"
05/10/2025 Duración: 02minThe Government's lack of spending on energy aid has been slammed amid claims that too many Clare people are struggling to foot bills. It follows a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General which shows that just €3.9 million out of a €190 million fund set up to support consumers dealing with spiking energy costs has been paid out. Energia, meanwhile has become the latest company to announce price hikes of between 10% and 12%. Clare Aontú Rep June Dillon believes the fund needs to be used now.

Petrol And Diesel No Longer Most Popular Vehicles In Clare
05/10/2025 Duración: 01minPetrol electric hybrids are on course to be the most popular vehicles in Clare this year. Data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry shows 671 vehicles with a petrol electric engine have been sold so far this year which is up 17% on the same period of 2024. By contrast, just 562 petrol and 558 diesel engine vehicles have been registered in the county in 2025 to date, indicating drops of 16% and 24% respectively. Director of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry Brian Cooke says the figures show it looks like it'll be a record-breaking year for electric vehicle sales nationwide.

ESB Expects Majority Of Clare Power Restorations To Be Completed By This Evening
04/10/2025 Duración: 03minESB says it expects the majority of electricity outages, caused by Storm Amy, in Clare to be restored before tonight. As a status yellow warning for wind expires, at present there are 640 homes, farms and business remain without power across the county, down from 5,500 at the height of the storm. The east of the county was worst affected, with over half of the remaining outages seen in Tulla, Bodyke, O'Callaghan's Mills, Scariff, Whitegate and Ogonnelloe. ESB Clare Area Manager, Alan Hogan, says they're expecting all major outages to be rectified today, however, some small pockets will remain without power overnight.

It follows indications that HIQA is prioritising either the expansion of University Hospital Limerick or extension of its campus instead. In the regulator's landmark review of emergency capacity in the MidWest, it highlighted that a project feasibility risk assessment would have to be carried out to see if building a new facility elsewhere is possible. Doonbeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney believes its the only viable solution.
