Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast

Two great guests this week on the Talk Toomey podcast! First up we get a quick check in from Fozzy guitarist, Billy Grey. Billy discusses the writing process for the latest Fozzy record, Boombox. We also talk with him about his connection with Rich Ward, playing Chris Jericho to the ring and his project Tattoo the Scars.Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh (GFM) then join Joshua and Chris to discuss being the Queens of Beautycore, their meeting Jericho and him wanting them for tour and their drive to succeed. The ladies also talk about their "momager" taking them to the Whisky A Go-Go for the after show party, missing out on normal teenage things and the metal community. They discuss making content for YouTube and Tik Tok as another avenue to gain fans. Maggie explains where her heavy scream voice comes from and what's next for the band.

Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire joins the Talk Toomey Podcast. Wade and Joshua discuss the upcoming record, Otherness. Wade also talks about the sound of the band over the years, getting in the room with the 5 guys and working out the vocals with the three singers. He also speaks on Alexisonfire playing the Olympics, his friendship with Jay Baruchel and appreciating the fans. Joshua and Wade debate the Misfits and even give love to the Graves era. Wade also talks about being on the Columbian Festival when Foo Fighters had to cancel due to the passing of Taylor Hawkins.Toomey and Chris start the episode with their thoughts on the passing of Trevor Strnad's passing. Toomey gives his review of the recent Deftones concert he attended. The guys discuss the Life of Agony and Tony Hawk documentaries. Jonah Matranga of Onelinedrawing and Far joins the Talk Toomey Podcast. Jonah discusses his upcoming album, Tenderwild, that will be released on June 24th. Jonah and Joshua talk about writing hooks, the collaborations on the album and songwriting in general. The guys go deep and talk about the struggles of growing up poor and his move to Sacramento. Jonah speaks on the early 90s Sacto scene, Far going out with Sepultura on the "Roots" tour and watching Deftones blossom. There is some Chi Cheng talk and he gives us the backstory on the Savory and Pony covers. Toomey and Chris start the show discussing Judas Priest getting in the Rock Hall, Chris going to see Plush and the latest on Dave Chappelle getting attacked on stage. They finish the show with USFL smack talk and NFL draft nonsense. 

Wednesday 13 joins the Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss his current "20 Years Of Fear" tour. During the conversation the guys hit on getting Alice Cooper on his record, touring with Doyle and collecting toys. Wednesday also discusses getting the phone call from Joey Jordison to form Murderdolls, flying to Iowa for the first time and both being from small towns. He also speaks on feeling cool around Joey due to all the other legends that would freak out on Joey being around. Wednesday talks about getting together with Joey in 2019 while on tour and texting with him just before his passing. The guys finish off with talk about the new album and going back to his classic sound.Toomey and Chris start the episode with some talk about the backlash from the Sergio Vega episode and that dove tails into discussing Jason Newsted not being happy with a newspaper reporter. Sergio Vega of Quicksand joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week.  Sergio and Joshua discuss his latest writing and production project that will feature multiple vocalists including Keith Buckley. Sergio also speaks on his joining Deftones, relationship with Chi and his recent departure from the band. They also talk about being a hired gun versus a full member. Sergio is very candid in this interview with his time in Deftones. They also discuss Deftones playing Riot Fest with the Misfits, his early influences with bass and the early days of Quicksand.Joshua and Chris start the episode talking about the recent comments that Dino has made about the new Fear Factory vocalist, Mark Hunter filling in with Lamb of God and the upcoming Anthrax/ BLS/ Hatebreed tour. Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Carla and Joshua discuss her book "Death and Other Dances", talk about being kids of divorce and Carla being a people person. Carla also speaks on her work in the funeral business and getting the bodies ready for viewing. They talk about the recording of the new Butcher Babies album in Michigan and the band staying together at a hunter's lodge AirBNB, A Talk Toomey is never complete without some Pantera talk. Carla remembers getting into Pantera for the first time, seeing the band live and her recent encounter with Jose Mangin's redone Vinnie and Dime Limo. They finish off with art talk and what's next for Carla.Joshua and Chris start the show with their thoughts on Megadeth going on tour with Five Finger Death Punch, The Metal Lords movie and a review of the latest Machine Head single. 

The mighty Max Cavalera returns to Talk Toomey this week. Max and Joshua talk about the upcoming Cavalera tour where the brothers will play cuts from Beneath the Remains and Arise. They start the discussion with some Dino in Soulfly talk, the possibility of different guitarists on upcoming tour and being productive throughout the shutdowns. Max speaks on writing and recording BTR and Arise, working with Scott Burns and the growth between the two records. He also discusses the infamous Eddie Vedder story, meeting James Hetfield for the first time and learning he liked the band and Flea "air bassing" on the side of the stage. Joshua and Chris start the show with the news that Eloy Casagrande has broken his leg. The also try and make sense of the Parkway Drive tour cancelling statement. After the interview, Chris gives his top 5 underground bands. They also talk some Wrestlemania and critique Pat McAfee's match.

Isaac Lamb of Kublai Khan joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Isaac is on to discusses the latest EP, Lowest Form Of Animal. He also speaks on writing drum parts for Kublai Khan, getting married during covid and his influences. Isaac talks about the Kublai Khan name fight with another band by the same name. He also gives his thoughts on the Kate Beckinsale Tik Tok video.  Joshua and Chris start the show talking about the passing of Taylor Hawkins and their thoughts on the Will Smith slap. The guys give their opinions on the latest Skid Row vocalist. They finish the episode with talks about 20/20, Gremlins 2 and Gerard Way. 

Nicky Calonne & Alex Alereza of Nekrogoblikon join the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. The guys are on to discuss the upcoming release, The Fundamental Slimes and Humours. Nicky and Alex also talk about the difficulties in writing and recording during the pandemic, the evolution of John Goblikon and starting out on MySpace. John 5 returns to the Talk Toomey Podcast. John 5 is on to talk about his upcoming tour to promote his latest solo album, Sinner. John 5 discusses his latest show in Mexico City and love of guitar. The guys also discuss the Dave Mustaine and Carla Harvey cameos on Sinner. He talks about is love of Marty's guitar tone with Megadeth. John 5 discusses his love of the bluegrass shredders from the 50s and 60s. He also tells the story of Peter Criss playing drums on a track on Sinner and the jam with Corey Taylor, Michael Anthony and Fred Coury. Alicia Taylor of Cherry Bombs joins the show this week to discuss the troops latest show, Macabaret. Alicia and Joshua talk about the storyline behind the show and bringing the show into the  clubs. Alicia also discusses what drives her to make Cherry Bombs into one of the biggest acts out. She touches on performing at Knotfest LA and the show being a family affair. They also talk about both being at Knotfest Iowa and watching Corey Taylor be a proud dad watching Vended play. An old friend stops by this week. Frank Fontsere is on to talk about his recent departure from Fozzy, talk about the last few years in the band and what is up with Stuck Mojo. Frank talks about filming the Sane video and having to ride the wooden roller coaster over and over. We talk about the effect the song Judas had on Fozzy and how the crowds changed over the years. Frank talks a little Stuck Mojo and about the current state of that band. We also talk about him getting off the road to be with family and he talks about his art. Derrick and Joshua also talk about living abroad, tour must haves and Quadra. Derrick also let's us know his favorite moments during the SepulQuarta sessions. The guys go into Derrick's early days in Cleveland and talk Derrick's love of skateboarding. Joshua and Chris start the show talking about their love of Sepultura over the years and Chris believes if you checked out on Sepultura when Max left you are missing out on a ton of great music. The riff lord himself, Kirk Windstein joins the Talk Toomey Podcast. Kirk is on to discuss Crowbar's upcoming album, Zero and Below. Kirk discusses the album being shelved during the pandemic and how excited he is to finally get it out. Kirk and Joshua also talk about Kirk's solo album, his Top 5 Kiss albums and meeting Ace Frehley. Jelly Roll joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week to discuss everything going on in his world. Brandon Boyd joins the Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss his latest solo release, Echoes and Cocoons. Brandon talks about the back story of "Pocket Knife" and the origin of the lyrics. We discuss growing food during the pandemic, starting the Moonlight Art Collective and selling prints of his work. Brandon gives some Incubus history and talks Make Yourself, touring with Black Sabbath and Pantera. There is a great Korn road story and he talks the upcoming Incubus shows.
