Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast

Will Putney joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week to discuss the latest from Fit For An Autopsy. Joshua talks with Will about his writing process, the band dynamic of Will writing and recording and sending the band off to tour. Will also goes into working with Body Count, Knocked Loose and what got him into producing. Will also talks about the pros and cons of working with bands and what he can take to his own band through those experiences. He finishes off with his Mount Rushmore of producers.

Brian "Head" Welch introduces you to Jevon "ODW" Barnes on this week's episode of Talk Toomey. ODW and Head join Joshua Toomey to discuss ODW's past and tackling tough subjects in his music and videos. ODW talks about his past in drugs and his struggles. Head discusses meeting ODW and connecting through faith. Head updates us on Love and Death and gives some love to Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire and his bbqing skills. He also talks about the latest Korn tour and struggling through other members getting Covid and finishing the shows. 

Terry Glaze joins Throwback Throwdown with Toomey to discuss his new project Evel Frehley. Terry talks about writing and recording a new album through the pandemic with his Dallas bandmates. Terry dives into his early influences and going to see concerts back in the day. Terry goes over how Pantera came together and meeting Vinnie and Dime as teenagers. He gives his top 3 Pantera records. 

Josh Scogin of '68 joins Joshua Toomey and Knotfest's Throwback Throwdown with Toomey. Josh talks about '68's current tour with Every Time I Die, the covid protocols on the Korn tour and filling up a stage with just 2 members. Josh and Joshua talk about Atlanta in the 90s, early concert memories and touring the south right out of high school. Josh also tells us about the origins of '68 and not wanting to do just another 5-piece band. 

Doc Coyle of Bad Wolves joins the Talk Toomey Podcast. Doc is here to discuss the latest Bad Wolves record, his Ex-Man Podcast and adapting to the times with music promotion. Doc talks about the process of adding new vocalist D.L. and hoping the fans of Bad Wolves embrace him. Doc also talks about playing in The Wedding Band with Kirk Hamment and the touring future of Bad Wolves.

Tommy Victor of Prong joined Joshua Toomey and Throwback Throwdown with Toomey. Tommy was on to discuss their tour with Black Label Society and Obituary, Prong's legacy and his history with CBGBs. Tommy talks about Zakk and Dime being the best of the best. He also mixed Helmet back in the day and talks about touring with Helmet through the years. There is some Danzig, Beavis and Butthead talk and becoming a new father at 55. 

Don Jamieson joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Don and I discuss his trip to RockNPod in Nashville, roasting Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park and the growing podcast world. We talk about his moving to Anthony Cumia's Compound Media and starting That Jamieson Show. Don talks about touring with bands and playing alternative venues. He also gives his thoughts on early Slipknot shows and ruining Slipknot's Madison Square Garden after show. We also talk about different styles of interviewing and making headlines. 

Chad Ruhlig of LGND and For The Fallen Dreams joins Throwback Throwdown with Toomey. Chad is on to discuss the lastest single "Pagan Prayer", writing with FTFD and his love of Limp Bizkit. Chad also talks Slipknot and the fairy tale story that is The Ghost Inside.    

Sam Loeffler of Chevelle joins Throwback Throwdown with Toomey. Sam joins the show to discuss "Niratias" and coming up with artwork and weird shit with his brother. Sam talks about playing in a band with his brother and being on the same page with Pete.  Says they are two people sharing one brain when it comes to Chevelle. Sam tells the story of his brother in law replacing their other brother in the band years ago. He also gives us some concert memories from Chicago, talks touring with Type O Negative and Peter Steele being overly kind when their trailer and gear was stolen.Up next, Brittney Slayes of Unleash The Archers joins the program. Brittney is on to discuss touring post pandemic, streaming on Twitch and meeting fans in person from  online.  She also talks about some Halloween memories and the changes she has seen in the music business in the last 15 years.

Josh and Diamond of Tetrarch join Joshua Toomey and Throwback Throwdown on the Knotfest Official Twitch. They discuss playing Oregon Trail, the lost art of band practice and playing shows again after 18 months. Josh and Diamond also discuss being anxious before the first shows back and the reception to "Unstable". Diamond gives us her case for Load and Reload in some Metallica talk. They answer some chatroom questions about how they met, preshow food and who they would like to tour with. Diamond also talks about being on lists with other women and more. 

David Ellefson joins Joshua Toomey and The Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss his last few months, The Lucid and the movie Dwellers. David talks about going out in public after the video leaked online and dipping his toes back into getting around people. His self proclaimed vacation gave him time to get his life in order and get things right. David also tells some great Nick Menza stories and talks about the upcoming documentary the Menza family is putting together. We talk about his time with Peavey and recording Cryptic Writings in Nashville. And a Talk Toomey episode wouldn't be complete without a Pantera story!

Jay Jay French joins The Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss his new book, Twisted Business. Jay Jay and I talk about his early days before Twisted Sister, protesting injustice in the 1960s and his Kiss audition. We also talk about the bar scene in the 70s and how it will never be able to be reproduced now. Jay Jay also discusses the 10 year struggle before getting signed and if they ever thought of changing the name in those years. We get a little Sevendust talk in there and did you know there were Boy Scout Cookies??? 

Skye and Matt from Sumo Cyco join the show to discuss the latest Suneater video. Skye also talks about editing the videos herself and what it takes to shoot the Sumo Cyco videos. Matt and Skye go over their favorite videos and talk the future of the band.Next up, Jonathan Donais of Anthrax joins the show. Josh joins the show to discuss his latest batch of videos, his journey through comedy and pockets on dresses.Friend of the show, Matt Naas of the Roach Koach Podcast joins the show to discuss Trick Tracts, Richie Faulkner almost dying on stage and Lars Ulrich's comments on Jason Newsted leaving Metallica. We also discuss Henry Rollins and the Spice Girls. 

Legend Alert!! Page Hamilton of Helmet joins the Talk Toomey podcast. Page and I discuss touring and not touring through Covid. Missing Helmet during the breakup in the late 90s. His move to LA and seeing the movie locations around town. He brought up (not me) his influence on Pantera. Page talks about the origin of the Helmet sound. We also discuss their upcoming live album, CBGBs and The Judgement Night soundtrack. 

CJ Pierce of Drowning Pool joined Throwback Throwdown with Toomey this week. CJ and I go way back and we reminisce about playing shows together and our memories of Dave Williams. Cj also talks about "Bodies" and still loving the song. CJ tells us about 9/11 and Clint from Sevendust waking them up to the tragedy. He also discusses Jason Moreno and his range, hanging with Pantera and rehearsing next to Phil's early band Razor White. Next up, Vicky Psarakis of The Agonist joins the show. Vicky and her horde of Twitch followers came in on a mission! Vicky and I discuss the latest album, shooting videos and toxic comment sections. 

Elijah Witt of Cane Hill joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Elijah and I talk about the success of Cane Hill being off a label and the creative freedom it has given the band. We talk about the writing process of the band and his love of longer songs. Elijah discusses the huge bass tone the band has a the importance of bass players. We also talk some New Orleans metal history, Nu Metal and Deloreans. I start the episode recapping my Knotfest Iowa trip. This is a good one. 

Sonny Sandoval joined Joshua Toomey and Throwback Throwdown to let us all in on the 20th Anniversary of "Satellite" tour that will begin in August and go through October 2021. Sonny and Joshua reflect on releasing the album on Sept. 11 2001 and the tragedy of that day. Sonny speaks of working with Howard Benson and how many bands wanted that "Satellite" sound after the album was released. Sonny discusses faith and how he was unaware of the underground Christian Music scene. Fernanda Lira of Crypta joins Throwback Throwdown with Toomey to discuss their debut release "Echoes of the Soul". Fernanda talks about taking the pandemic year to write and perfect the songs. Fernanda let's us in on her influences and her love of the Florida Death Metal scene. We also talk about being able to get the album on CD, LP and even cassette. 

Gary Holt of Exodus joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Gary is on to discuss the latest Exodus album, Persona Non Grata. He also discusses Tom Hunting's  health, the Bay Area scene and what he learned from touring with Slayer.
