  • 018: 3 Adult Mindset Tools We Implemented with Our Three-Year-Old | Fri-Date With The Wifey

    13/04/2018 Duración: 10min

Today’s Topic: Applying adult personal development strategies to your children Today Kim and I are going to discuss creating meditation and gratitude practices for your children, teaching them to change their own state (Tony Robbins style), and how they can use power poses or affirmations to achieve more.   Meditation & Gratitude In addition to cleaning up and a bedtime story, our evening ritual includes a gratitude exercise. Every night our daughter shares three things that she’s grateful for. It’s a small thing, but we can tell she’s getting it. Our intro to meditation was similarly simple: we just started by sitting down with her, crossing our legs, and putting our hands on our knees. Then we slowly started adding additional pieces of a meditation practice, including the Headspace app (both Headspace and Calm have a children’s section that include very short meditations). You don’t need to try getting your kid to sit still for 30 minutes to lay the foundation of a good meditation practice!   Changing Y

  • 017: A Word From The Dalai Lama | The Robb Review

    11/04/2018 Duración: 03min

Today’s Topic: The paradox of our age At the end of my yoga class the other day, my teacher read some powerful words written by the 14th Dalai Lama that really stuck with me: We have bigger houses, but smaller families More conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense More knowledge, but less judgement More experts, but more problems More medicines, but less healthiness. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour. We built more computers to hold more information to hold more copies than ever, but less communication. We have become long on quantity, but short on quality. These are times of fast foods, but slow digestion Tall men, but short character. Steep profits, but shallow relationships. It is a time where there is much in the window, but nothing in the room. - His Holiness the Dalai Lama   Resources: I’d love your feedback on the show, and to show my thanks I’m raffling away a ticket to Lewis Howes’ next event, every we

  • 016: Dr. Emily A. Farkas | The Most Interesting Woman in the World

    09/04/2018 Duración: 53min

Dr. Emily A. Farkas is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon who divides most of her time between performing heart surgeries in the U.S. and performing heart surgeries for free in underserved regions of the world (with a little time for climbing mountains, boxing, and off-roading on the side). Dr. Farkas also holds the distinction of being the first woman to train as a heart surgeon at Yale University, has a day named in her honor in St. Louis (“Dr. Emily Farkas Day,” August 3rd), and was awarded the honorary status of a tribal “Chief” in Nigeria – which all adds up to one of the most interesting people in the world. Words cannot express how long I’ve wanted to sit down and ask Dr. Farkas these questions, or how excited I am to share it with all of you.   In This Conversation We Cover: [2:00] Emily’s dual interests of dance and medicine [3:00] Attending Yale University [5:10] Getting started with Crossroads Africa and humanitarian work [6:50] Delivering a baby in Kenya before graduating medical school [8:00] Removing a s

  • 015: The 80/20 On My Nutrition & Training | Fri-Date With The Wifey

    06/04/2018 Duración: 14min

Today’s Topic: Finding balance in my nutrition & training I’m almost 52-years-old, and my body has gone through a number of stages in my adult life (we’re not talking about puberty… today). I’ve been overweight and a fitness competitor at different points in my life, and today I’ve found a healthy balance. In our 30s, we were living it large – we basically started cheat day on Thursday – and I found myself larger as a result. Then, when I saw the men (some older than me at the time) in a fitness competition, I deconstructed what they were doing and completely transformed my fitness routine and diet. I was walking around with a gallon of water, eating cold chicken and broccoli, and hating life – but I had great freakin’ abs. Ultimately, though, I was exhausted every day… and then we had a baby. Kim, who used to be prepping my meals every weekend, had a lot less time and a lot more to do. Without that preperation, I started gaining weight again. This is when I decided I needed to strike a better balance – I

  • 014: Using A Push Goal as a Domino to Knock Down Your Other Goals | The Robb Review

    04/04/2018 Duración: 05min

Today’s Topic: How to choose your goals & achieve them Today you’ll learn what a push goal is, how selecting three 10-minute, daily actions will help you achieve your goal, and the exact system that I use to achieve my goals.   What is a Push Goal? If you accomplish a push goal, it will knock down all of your other goals – like the first domino in a line. For example: If your list of goals includes putting a down payment on a house and buying a new car, your push goal might be making $150,000 in a year because it would allow you to accomplish both of those goals.   What daily actions will help you accomplish your push goal? Start by brainstorming every possible thing you could do to accomplish your goal. Make an exhaustive list of every single thing you can think of, and leave no stones unturned. If you start to get stumped, ask yourself questions: What would this look like if it were easy? Fun? Elegant? Anything you can do, any prompts you can give yourself, to get that data out. After you are done brain

She’s an incredible person, and I’m pumped to share her powerful story and belief with all of you.   In This Conversation We Cover: [6:00] How Lori’s unique upbringing affects her perspective on spirituality and the world. • 012: Crushing Limiting Beliefs Together | Fri-Date With The Wifey

    30/03/2018 Duración: 07min

Today’s Topic: Limiting beliefs We all tell ourselves stories. Sometimes those stories drive us to do more than we’ve ever done before, but often they hold us back. Those stories are limiting beliefs. Stories like, “I will never be successful when I grow up because I grew up in the projects of Queens and my dad was a truck driver.” But when you interrupt the pattern of telling yourself that story, and you replace it with something else, you can achieve anything. Call BS on yourself: “The truth is, there are a number of people who came out of Queens, and whose dads were truck drivers, who have grown up to be some of the most successful people in the world.” As you grow, and you shed some of your limiting beliefs, you will always bump up against new challenges and new limiting beliefs – so understand that this is a never-ending cycle. We’re all going through this same journey, and it’s okay to enlist support; seek out personal development training, hire a coach, or find a like-minded community.   Resources: I’

  • 011: Using The Cycle Of Growth To Change Any Habit | The Robb Review

    28/03/2018 Duración: 05min

Today’s Topic: How to change any habit   Today I’m going to discuss the 4 stages of the Cycle of Growth: Inception - Think New Year’s Day, you’ve just made a resolution, and you’re excited about changing… but you don’t really know what you’re up against. Deception - A few days in, shit starts to get real. Incorporating your new habit is becoming more difficult, the excitement is waning, and you’re running up against physical or psychological friction. Your unconscious might try to keep you safe by minimizing risks. Transformation - If you power through the stage of deception, you will start to see positive changes. But you also see the reality of your growing habit, and it’s not a habit yet, so you still have to actively think about incorporating this activity into your life. Identity - After you’ve gone through this process for weeks and weeks, you don’t have to think about incorporating this new activity anymore – you just do it.   All change goes through this process. You just have to know where you are

  • 009: Avoiding Relationship Groundhog Day | Fri-Date WIth The Wifey

    23/03/2018 Duración: 16min

Today’s Topic: Avoiding Relationship Groundhog Day by Creating a Dream Line Do you remember Groundhog Day, the hilarious Bill Murray movie about a man who wakes up to live the same day, every day? Too many people are living life just like this – they wake up, brush their teeth, come home, feed the kid, read a story, go to bed, and then wake up and do it all over again. It’s easy to fall into that trap, but it’s not a great place to be.   Kim and I fell into this trap at one point, too, but we were able to climb out of it using one of Tim Ferriss’ tools: The Dream Line. It’s all about finding what you want to have, be, and do over the next six months. Tim Ferriss says, “Dreamlining focuses on activities that will fill the vacuum created when work is removed. Living like a millionaire requires doing interesting things and not just owning enviable things.” Here’s a few tips on how to use this tool in your own life: Come up with what you want to have and what those things realistically cost (e.g. an Aston Martin

  • 008: Predicting Divorce With Amazing Accuracy | The Robb Review

    21/03/2018 Duración: 08min

Today’s Topic: How to Avoid Divorce John Gottman can predict, with 99.9% accuracy, if a couple will get divorced by spending just two minutes with them.   How does he know? Gottman knows to look for The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: Criticism - When you start being critical about your partner. Contempt - Criticism can escalate into contempt; the eye roll personified. Defensiveness - If you don’t repair that contempt, defensiveness will grow. Stonewalling - Finally, you will essentially become numb to your partner’s reactions and when you communicate to them. According to Gottman’s research, if you get to this point, you have a 99.9% chance of divorce in the next two years.   Okay, now that you know what the Four Horsemen are, and knowing is half the battle after all, are you dealing with any of them? If you are, I’ve found that these strategies have really improved my relationship: When you’re in criticism, try to complain without blaming (which isn’t easy to do!) When you feel contempt, you want to bu

  • 007: Jen Esquer | The Master of Mobility

    19/03/2018 Duración: 01h01min

As I get older, I’m always looking for ways to create more movement in my body, and today we’re talking to the mobility expert: Jen Esquer (AKA Doc Jen). She is the physical therapist who created The Mobility Method, an incredibly successful program that helps people relieve pain, prevent injury, and optimize movement in just 10 minutes a day. Jen believes that, with the right information, everyone has the power to affect change in their body. Unfortunately, she can only work with so many people in person, so she created The Mobility Method to make optimizing your body more accessible – for anyone, anywhere, with almost any budget.   In This Conversation We Cover: [2:30] Jen’s trip to Guatemala with Pencils of Promise [5:00] Leaving private practice to create something bigger [7:45] How your sphere of influence helps you grow (or holds you back) [9:00] Getting Insta-famous [15:00] The neurological side of breathwork & how to breathe [22:40] How Jen creates & shares her incredibly high-quality Instagr

  • 006: How Kim and I Work Together Without Killing Each Other | Fri-Date With The Wifey

    16/03/2018 Duración: 11min

Kim and I have been working and playing together for 14 years (very long years, she says), and we’ve come up with a few strategies that have helped us not kill each other in the process. At the end of every week, we’ll be sitting down for a short Fri-Date, where we’ll share our tips and tricks with all of you.   Today’s topic: What lights you up, lights me up. Kim and I attended one of Tony Robbins’ Date with Destiny events, and he taught us a few things that we’ve been practicing ever since. To start, you have to understand that there are three levels of relationships: It’s all about me and my needs. You take care of your needs, I’ll take care of my needs, and then maybe we’ll meet up. What lights you up, lights me up. In the third, highest level of relationships, your partner’s needs are your needs – and it’s a totally different way of looking at things. This practice is rooted in The Law of Reciprocity: the idea that when you do something for someone else, they will be more inclined to do something for

  • 005: The One Thing I Do Every Morning To Create Clarity | The Robb Review

    14/03/2018 Duración: 06min

Welcome to the first Robb Review! Every Wednesday, I’ll share something that I’m experimenting with in my personal life or my business life, and then I’ll give you the tips, tricks, and strategies that I’ve learned.   Today’s Topic: The Morning Pages Morning Pages is a process created by Julia Cameron. Although it was originally intended to help with writer’s block, the practice can help anyone gain clarity. The process is simple: as soon as you get up (and pour your morning beverage), just grab some paper and start writing. Whatever you’re thinking about – good or bad, silly or serious – write it down, and keep writing until you fill up three pages. The goal is to wipe the slate clean, clear your cache, and generally shake the dust out of the carpet that is your brain. I try to do this Monday through Friday, and when I don’t, I really notice the difference. It’s the best, most reliable way I know to start your day with a clear head. If you get stuck, or you are mulling over a problem, write these three ques
