Live Delay - Ep 195 - Darts; Spirit Bunny
05/02/2017 Duración: 55minDarts: Darts formed around 2008, initially just as a two-piece — Angus Ayres and his brother Andrew — in the Victorian city of Bendigo. They ballooned out to a five-piece in the early 2010’s, adding Ally Campbell-Smith, Paige X. Cho and Jessie Fernandez to fold. They have a melancholic, aggressive sound that feature loud-quiet dynamics that exhibit their unique tapestry of influences. One listen will induce flashbacks to early Modest Mouse, Pixies, The Breeders and Dinosaur Jr, all wrapped up in one frenetic punch that’s impossible to listen to without being totally absorbed. In 2015, Darts started to gain a wider audience when they released their album ‘Below Empty & Westward Bound’ on Rice Is Nice Records. Recorded at the Brighton Up Bar as part of the Volumes Festival in Sydney on the 27h of August, 2016. Recorded & Mixed by Harvey O’Sullivan. Spirit Bunny: Forming in 2013, Spirit Bunny, hail from fertile corners of the Brisbane DIY music scene, featuring members from the noise-rock duo Tiny Spiders,

Fusing krautrock beats with scratchy guitars and synth pop stabs, the theme throughout the music is space. After releasing singles digitally and on vinyl through his own record label Psychic Hysteria, Astral Skulls released the debut album in October 2015 and is named after the first words spoken during the first steps on the moon by humankind, Contact:Light. Kalindy Williams joins Kurt for the live version of the band and this particular set features a rather interesting cover that you won’t hear anywhere else. Live Delay - Ep 193 - Sweater Curse; Tralala Blip
15/01/2017 Duración: 55minSweater Curse: If you mix the vocal stylings on The Cure’s Robert Smith and Beth Orton with the rawness of early output from Bloc Party, you arrive at the sound that Sweater Curse output. 23/12/2016 Duración: 55minChastity Belt: The north-western town of Walla Walla, Washington is where Chastity Belt call home and where they create the powerful wall of chords that gel with solid beats that are denser than the water in the ocean. Live Delay - Ep 189 - VulgarGrad; Dave Graney And The Coral Snakes
16/12/2016 Duración: 55minVulgarGrad: VulgarGrad bring you the old songs of the Russian thieves, along with punk classics of the Perestroika era. The band arose in Melbourne in late 2004 out of a collaboration between some of Australia’s best musicians in underground ethnic styles and they combine elements to create their own inimitable sound, producing something that transcends the language barrier by aiming straight for your convict heritage and your dancing feet. Since that time, they have caused a sensation on Australia’s live music and festival scene, proving that what Australian audiences really seem to need is a wild night of old-fashioned Russian criminality. After all, if Russia and Australia have anything in common, it’s convicts. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 10th of July 2016. Dave Graney And The Coral Snakes: Dave Graney 'n' the Coral Snakes were THE stand alone act in Australia during the 90s. Nobody stood near them. They cut through with wit, flash and weirdness and flew their freak flag

Live Delay - Ep 188 - Hockey Dad
04/12/2016 Duración: 55minHockey Dad: Hailing from the mid-coastal NSW town of Windang, Hockey Dad are two friends conquering the world, one song at a time. Growing up in the same street as each other, guitarist Zach Stephenson and drummer Billy Fleming were two surfer kids growing up in a beach community and by 13, were jamming with Stephenson's dad's old gear in the garage; five years later, they were touring as Hockey Dad. Their first EP, titled Dreamin’, was released in 2013 via the Wollongong record label Farmer & The Owl, and then spent the next three years honing their craft and tapping into the American market, where online publications such as Pitchfork, Consequence Of Sound, NPR and Paste Magazine had been taking notice. In 2016, they released their debut album ‘Boronia’, which was produced by Tom Iansek of Big Scary and #1 Dads fame, and is named after the street they grew up on. Farmer & The Owl handled the release in Australia and Kanine Records took the record and released it all throughout the USA. Recorded live at t

Live Delay - Ep 187 - Black Cab
27/11/2016 Duración: 55minBlack Cab: Forming in 1999, Black Cab is a Melbourne based drone and electronica group that are heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic rock coupled with elements of Krautrock and more programmed driven beats and electronic soundscapes. Since their inception before the turn of the century, the band have released two EPs and four full length albums, starting with 2004’s Altamont Diary, 2006’s Jesus East, 2009’s Call Signs and 2014’s Games of the XXI (21st) Olympiad, with much of their material drawing upon historical events such the ill-fated Altamont Speedway free concert hosted by the Rolling Stones and doping use by East German athletes at the 1976 Olympic Games. Recorded live at the Newtown Social Club in Sydney on the 14th of May 2016. Recorded & mixed by Harvey O’Sullivan. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 27th of November 2016. Live Delay - Ep 186 - Terry; Ninetynine
20/11/2016 Duración: 55minTerry: Melbourne band Terry is a supergroup of sorts— comprising members who have played with the likes of Dick Diver, UV Race, and Total Control. Terry has just two 7" singles, yet already they have proven themselves as a spirited group. Alongside contemporaries like DC's Gauche and London's Shopping, Terry evoke not only the minimalism of classic post-punk, but also its intellectual edge. Terry are at once critical and funny, skeletal and chaotic. There is a multiplicity of droll, slightly off voices deadpanning about class, beer-drinking, and men who won't apologize. This slanted ripper culminates with searing, splintering guitars, knotted with an expressive emotionality, all buzzsaws that make sparks fly. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 26th of July 2016. Engineered by Jeremy Smith. Ninetynine: Over the course of twenty years Melbourne's multi-instrumental indie rockers Ninetynine have released seven albums along with singles and numerous compilation tracks, played hundreds o

Live Delay - Ep 185 - Isaiah Mitchell; Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds
15/11/2016 Duración: 55minIsaiah Mitchell: Isaiah and his beloved Fender Stratocaster have been a legendary pairing that have collectively created creamy psychedelic sounds for records from such bands as Earthless, Golden Void, Howlin’ Rain and Black Elk Medicine Band. He was gifted with his first guitar at the age of Eight, but it wasn’t until his early teens when he’d heard Jimi Hendrix and had his mind blown that he decided what sort of lifestyle he wanted to persue; it was that of a face-melting, hair-swirling solo guitarist. In September 2016, he booked himself a tour of Australia and enlisted the help of Melbourne psych-rock 3-piece Seedy Jeezus to help fill out the jam-filled aura that surrounds him. This particular set was performed live-to-air in Melbourne on PBS 106.7FM’s Pojama People program and is filled with songs that have influenced Isaiah as a musician since he first picked up a guitar, as well some of his own solo works. Recorded live at the PBS FM Studios in Melbourne on the 21st of August 2016. Engineered by

Live Delay - Ep 184 - Infinite Void; Screaming Females
07/11/2016 Duración: 55minInfinite Void: Infinite Void's name might have you thinking black metal, but the Melbourne quartet are firmly planted in atmospheric punk and post-punk, taking cues as much from the members' past punk bands as from the smudged sonics of My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division and Pornography-era Cure. They released their debut self-titled album through Poison City Records in 2012 and had Steven Smith from Scul Hazzards manning the desk for the sessions, and since them have released some very rare split 7” records to keep the ball rolling. Recorded live at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney on the 17th of February, 2016. Recorded & mixed by Harvey O’Sullivan. Screaming Females: Mixing equal parts Dinosaur Jr. and Sleater-Kinney, the Brunswick trio of Marissa Paternoster (guitar/vocals), Michael Abbate (bass), and Jarrett Dougherty (drums) strives to embody the spirit of indie rock in its purest form; Screaming Females book their own shows and self-released many of their own records to bring their guitar-driven r

Live Delay - Ep 183 - Hiatus Kaiyote
30/10/2016 Duración: 56minHiatus Kaiyote: In a whirlwind five years with two Grammy nominations, multiple world tours, and nods from Erykah Badu, Questlove and Prince, Hiatus Kaiyote meld electric jazz virtuosity with the beat-making dexterity of Flying Lotus and Madlib, and transform it into what the band describes as 'multi-dimensional, polyrhythmic gangster sh*t'. Singer-guitarist Nai Palm leads the band with her soul-driven force and is backed up by Paul Bender on bass, Simon Mavin on keyboards and drummer Perrin Moss. They released their first album ‘Tawk Tomahawk’ independently in 2012, which garnered attention from Flying Buddha Records and received worldwide distribution that lead them to their first Grammy nomination for the song ‘Nakamarra’ which featured Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest fame on guest vocals. In 2015, they released their second album, titled ‘Choose Your Weapon’ which propelled them to yet another Grammy nomination for the song ‘Breathing Underwater’. This performance at the Sydney Opera House captures the

Live Delay - Ep 182 - Sleepwalks; You Beauty!
23/10/2016 Duración: 55minSleepwalks: Starting up in the tail end of the noughties in Brisbane, Sleepwalks is a unity between three friends, David Hansford, Kevin Fincham and Damien Masters, and their love for loud yet simply structured music, known to some as the ‘Grunge’ genre. They released their first record ‘The Milk Has Gone Sour’ in 2011 though Z-Man Records and it encapsulated their holiday to Chicago to record with Steve Albini, whose name you’ll see in the liner notes of records belonging to Shellac, Big Black, Pixies, Breeders, PJ Harvey and little known band called Nirvana. They started writing and recording their follow-up album in 2012, but it wasn’t until 2016 until they finished and released it to the world and titled it ‘Kingdom’. Their performances are rare to come by, so it was a treasure to capture this band picking up their instruments again and breathing new life into the raw materials. Recorded live at the Greenslopes Bowls Club as part of Sonic Masala Fest 2016, Brisbane, on the 13th of August 2016. Recorde

Live Delay - Ep 181 - Grieg; Eat Laser Scumbag!
16/10/2016 Duración: 56minGrieg: Featuring members from almost every prominent brisbane punk band through the 2000’s, Grieg features Alex Gillies; member of No Anchor and A Savage God on drums, Tamara Dawn from Hits and Gazoonga Attack on Bass, John Mercer from Undead Apes and Dick Nasty on guitar, and Lance Sinclair on vocals. Together they bring big noise, big riffs, and a heaviness that could only be achieved by a band comprised of this many stellar Brisbane artists. They have released one album so far, titled ‘Retaliate First’, and is available digitally or on vinyl through their Bandcamp page. Recorded live at Crowbar, Brisbane, on the 10th of June 2016. Recorded by Reuben Aptroot & mixed by Branko Cosic. Eat Laser Scumbag! Kicking it around Brisbane since the early 2000’s, Eat Laser Scumbag! released their first EP in 2005 and have been sparingly playing their brand of punk rock all over the place since. Like most Brisbane bands, Eat Laser Scumbag! is made up of members who all play in another band. In this case, the two

Live Delay - Ep 180 - Eyes Ninety; A Country Practice
02/10/2016 Duración: 55minEyes Ninety: Kicking it off in 2014, Eyes Ninety make erratic garage that dabbles into punk, post-punk and classic Australian rock ‘n’ roll. Their members are a part of a few renowned Brisbane bands such as The Standing 8 Counts, Chinese Burns and Eat Laser Scumbag!, however Eyes Ninety are their own beast. With furious bass and guitar lines backed by upbeat drumming that keeps the pace, vocalist Tom Beaumont shouts and screams with various levels of energy while the second guitar detaches itself almost completely from the rest of the group and carves its own path which makes you uncomfortably unsure if the band is either about to erupt into chaos or dwindle down into nothingness. It’s this feeling of uncertainty that creates such a bubbling atmosphere of energy that makes Eyes Ninety the great band that they are. In 2015, they released their self-titled debut album through Swashbuckling Hobo Records, which features 9 tracks of sharp lo-fi production that suits the band’s aesthetics to a ‘T’. Recorded li

Live Delay - Ep 179 - Luke Daniel Peacock; Jonathan Boulet
26/09/2016 Duración: 55minLuke Daniel Peacock: Kicking off his career on keys and guitar in the critically-acclaimed Brisbane group Halfway, Luke Daniel Peacock has since become a prolific songwriter in his own right. In 2014, he was the driving creative force for the groundbreaking project, The Painted Ladies, a group that revived the lost songs of Vic Simms in an album titled ‘The Painted Ladies Play Selections From The Loner’. This collaboration was produced by Rusty Hopkinson from You Am I and featured The Medics, Paul Kelly, Ed Kuepper (The Saints/The Laughing Clowns), Ian Haug (The Church/Powderfinger), John Willsteed (The Go-Betweens), Phil Noy & Eugene Ball (The Bamboos), Bunna Lawrie (Coloured Stone) and many more. In February 2016, he released his first solo album titled ‘We’ve Come A Long Way Darling’ to much praise, including a Queensland Music Award for his song ‘Fruits Of Our Labour’, as well as receiving the prestigious Billy Thorpe Scholarship Award in 2016. His work sounds like a modern day Australian version of

Live Delay - Ep 178 - Edith Thomas Furey; Undead Apes
19/09/2016 Duración: 55minEdith Thomas Furey: Coming from Brisbane, this one man band is the brain product of Joel Glazebrook. Using an elaborate setup of synths, drum machines, guitars, and loop pedals, both in the studio and for live performances, Edith Thomas Furey create catchy new wave post-punk with an 80’s feel, with some heavier kind of elements taken straight from the 90’s industrial scene. Since August, he has released three singles, with mention of an EP due in the future. Recorded live at The Brightside, Brisbane, on the 4th of March 2016. Recorded & mixed by Reuben Aptroot. Undead Apes: Undead Apes are the all star team of punk rockers from Brisbane in the early 2000’s. They feature Simon Graydon from Sekiden, John Mercer from Greig and Dick Nasty, Adam Scott from Eat Laser Scumbag!, and Renae Collett from Gazoonga Attack. Their live shows are a complete rarity with their bassist Adam living overseas these days, but they have still found time to write and record three albums over their lifespan, which have all been

Live Delay - Ep 177 - Babaganouj; The Goon Sax
11/09/2016 Duración: 55minBabaganouj: Starting in 2011, Babaganouj have become an absolute songwriting powerhouse in the last 5 years releasing too many singles and EP’s to name, as well as touring the east coast more times than we can keep track of. Their garage pop sound is always dripping with the glowing sunbeams you can expect from a Brisbane band, but what makes them unique is songwriting and vocal duties are shared equally between the three members Harriette Pilbeam, Ruby McGregor, and Charles Sale. They’ve even taken the extra step in this direction by recording three separate EP’s for release this year, with each one written solely by one member. And although they may share the songwriting duties, their songs are always catchy, upbeat, and there to keep the good times rolling. Recorded live at The Foundry in Brisbane on the 20th of March, 2015. Recorded & mixed by Tim Roberts. The Goon Sax: Like their name would probably indicate, The Goon Sax are a teenage trio who write songs about being an awkward adolescent, while
