Paul reminded the Corinthian church to be steadfast and immovable always abounding in the work of the Lord. One can get weary doing good, but Paul wanted them to remember that their labor is not in vain in the Lord. We have to learn what good works are and how to manifest those good works. I learned that God created us for good works but it is up to me to exhibit those works. This week, we’re closing out the Love of God series with a message about salvation. Sadly, the modern American church has turned salvation into a business transaction — one in which we swap a simple prayer and church attendance with an eternity in Hell — rather than a covenant relationship. This is an important topic to discuss because what Jesus says about being saved, becoming a Christian and following Him doesn’t seem to align with what most of us learn in church. We’re missing something in the way we understand and talk about salvation: love. We have to love Jesus more than anything and anyone else before we can truly be saved.

Cornelius was a Centurion who converted to Christianity. He was known in scripture as a devout man, who feared God along with his household, who gave alms to those in need and prayed to God always. One day as he was praying an angel visited him and told him to send for Peter. After Peter visited his house and ministered the gospel of Jesus Christ, he and his household received the Holy Spirit, were baptized, spoke with tongues, and continued in the Word of God under Peter's teaching. Not only was Cornelius' life changed but because of the influence of Cornelius everyone who took heed to the Word was changed. In 1 Corinthians 12-14, Paul describes a lifestyle of love, which should be the highest goal of every believer. The love of God should be the thing that makes you different, defines everything you do and draws people to you. The call of God on our lives is not to occasionally do loving things; the call is to be love. Jesus exhibited this behavior through His life. He didn’t just do loving things; He was the physically embodiment of love. The loving things He did in His time on earth flowed from who He was on the inside. Just like the lifestyle of a rich person is defined by their wealth, the lifestyle of a believer should be defined by God’s love.

In II Chronicles 20, there is an account of Jehoshaphat being under attack from his enemies. He did become afraid, but yet He had enough God in him to ask the Lord for help along with Judah. When the Lord moved on behalf of Jehoshaphat and Judah, not only did He give them the victory, but it took them three days to gather the spoils. In life, we may have problems and situations that come up against us but we can learn how to take the weapon of praise, worship, the singers, the Word, the musicians, i.e. church to go from the problem to the manifested promise. In this teaching Pastor Dobbs shows us how God uses the church to take us from problem to promise just like He did for Jehoshaphat if we position ourselves in the right manner. David penned Psalm 34 when he was in a situation where he was in a situation where someone was trying to harm him. In the midst of that, he said that he would bless the Lord at all times.
