The Department of Homeland Security tested a crowd-scanning project called the Biometric Optical Surveillance System — or BOSS — last fall after two years of government-financed development. Although the system is not ready for use, researchers say they are making significant advances. It is going to be deployed for use soon and this technology is always billed as anti-terrorism, but then it drifts into other applications. That is the fear behind these kinds of technologies but fear not as you have nothing to hide right? Well then smile you are on camera! Just think about it... 16/08/2013 Duración: 06minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Google Eye Tracking" While the current incarnation of Google Glass continues to prompt worry and debate as far as privacy concerns go, the company is working behind the scenes on potentially much more disturbing technology, as revealed by a recent patent application. The patent filing describes a “head mounted device”, for example hi-tech glasses, that would have the ability to track eye movement, effectively monitoring reactions to external stimuli, including changes in emotion. The application also states that users would be able to access a “gazing log” that would track everything they had previously looked at, much like a web browser history log. Google’s long term obsession with monitoring users for advertising purposes has seen the company apply to patent all manner of bizarre technologies. Well this particular technology for Google Glass is more than meets the eye, just think about it... Want to find out more? Listen to this episode! News Link P

The trash cans actually go ahead and utilize their internet connectivity to collect information from your smartphones without your permission (or any form of warning). The ‘Renew’ company behind the spy cans says that the Renew Pods track and collect a medley of information. Renew first tested the technology using 12 trash cans in May, but the story didn't get traction until last week when a sudden burst of publicity surrounding the "spy bins" put authorities on the defensive. 08/08/2013 Duración: 07minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Silicon Valley and the government: It's complicated" The Edward Snowden affair has shined a spotlight on the relationship between Silicon Valley and the federal government. For decades that relationship has been beneficial to both parties, leading to innovation in both the public and private sectors. But these days, things are getting pretty complicated. A lot of the technology we use today was funded by the government. The history of Silicon Valley dates back to the 1930s. In the early days, there wasn't a consumer market for tech. But the military was buying. But back then, silicon chips were used to make satellites that spied on our enemies. The government is still buying in Silicon Valley. Only today, that technology is also being used to keep track of us. Just think about it... Have a listen to this episode to find out more! News Links and Clips. 08/08/2013 Duración: 09minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "The Sun Will Flip Its Magnetic Field Soon" According to measurements from NASA-supported observatories, the sun’s vast magnetic field is about to flip. What are the cosmic and personal implications of this? It is not such a unique phenomenon, as it happens every eleven years. Still, every eleven years, shifts in human consciousness around this period seem to occur like clock work. This is said to happen in about 3-4 months, do you think it will have an impact on human behavior, not just weather and communications? While the mechanism behind the stimulation of human behavior is still a mystery, many are now accepting that humanity is receiving the highest support from the consciousness of the cosmos, allowing us to wake up to our divine connection to each other and the universe. Perhaps the Sun is only assisting in this process, just think about it... Find out more by listening to this episode! News Story Link Clip Link Support Mind Set Central Suscrib

25/07/2013 Duración: 10minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Blimp in a Box" The U.S. military has developed a surveillance blimp that fits in a box that can be loaded onto the back of a truck trailer. As its currently configured, JLENS can reach an altitude of 10,000 feet and stay aloft for 30 days at a stretch, and its 360 degree sensor package can scan the air, land, and sea for up to 340 miles. Because of the low cost to deploy the unmanned blimps and the even lower cost of keeping them in the air, the system provides a far more durable and economical means of overhead radar surveillance for a military base or operation. Radar systems on the ground have problems detecting objects beneath a certain height. It’s not just for the military either. It could be used for pipeline monitoring, extra security at the World Cup or even by a police force. It would also be useful in disaster areas, where the normal communications networks are down. 23/07/2013 Duración: 06minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "You Are Being Tracked: License Plate Scanners" Automatic license plate readers, mounted on police cars or on objects like road signs and bridges, use small, high-speed cameras to photograph thousands of plates per minute. The information captured by the readers – including the license plate number, and the date, time, and location of every scan – is being collected and sometimes pooled into regional sharing systems. As a result, enormous databases of innocent motorists’ location information are growing rapidly. This information is often retained for years or even indefinitely, with few or no restrictions to protect privacy rights. In our society, it is a core principle that the government does not invade people’s privacy and collect information about citizens’ innocent activities just in case they do something wrong. Should clear regulations be put in place to keep the government from tracking our movements on such a massive scale? Perhaps your license to

The graves contained skeletons whose heads had been severed and placed on their legs. This indicated to the archaeologists that the bodies had been subject to a ritualized execution designed to ensure the dead stayed dead. There's no consensus yet on when the bodies found in Poland were buried. One of the archaeologists on the site, said the skeletons were found with no jewelry, belt buckles, buttons or any other artifacts that might assist in providing a burial date. 16/07/2013 Duración: 08minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Iris Scans are the New School ID's" Iris scanners are becoming commonplace. Learning institutions, ranging from universities right down to elementary schools, are adopting the ID technology for use by faculty and students alike. Schools won't be the only place iris scanners are going to start popping up in the near future. Airports and banks are hot on the heels of learning institutions, so we'll all be able to play the iris scan game very soon. And if that's got you a little more worried than excited, you're not alone. Parent groups connected to some of the schools implementing iris scan technology have voiced concerns about not only the scanners themselves, but about where their child's iris data might end up down the line. Whether the fears of iris scanning are founded or not is something best left for the future to tell — but either way, iris scanning is stepping out of the world of sci-fi and into the present and the possibilities are eye opening, ju

Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, also claims that the biological parts of our body will be replaced with mechanical parts and this could happen as early as 2100. Kurzweil made the claims during his conference speech at the Global Futures 2045 International Congress in New York recently. The conference talks about how the world will look by 2045. Kurzweil was invited to the conference because he has previously written books around the idea of singularity. Technological singularity is the development of 'superintelligence' brought about through the use of technology. Find out more by listening to this episode! 09/07/2013 Duración: 07minTopic covered on today's episode of Mind Set Daily "Whispering Windows" Being in a consumer driven society everyday we are bombarded with advertising. Surely this is nothing new, however what is changing is how those ads are communicated and delivered to us. One example we are highlighting in this episode is from Sky Deutschland and they have developed technology to transfer adverts from train windows directly and silently into commuters' heads. Tired commuters often rest their heads against windows. Suddenly a voice inside their head is talking to them. No one else can hear this message. This is the idea behind a a marketing campaign launched by Sky Deutschland in association with ad agency BBDO Germany. The proposal involves using bone conduction technology, which is used in hearing aids, headphones and Google’s Glass headset, to pass sound to the inner ear via vibrations through the skull. The sound is broadcast from a transmitter which is attached to the train window. Do you consider this an invasion

An Italian neuroscientist says that human head transplants are possible using currently available medical techniques. And he's setting up a project to prove it. Dr. Sergio Canavero, who works for the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, published his proposal in the medical journal Surgical Neurology International —and he's calling it the "first human head transplantation with spinal linkage. "The greatest technical hurdle to such an endeavor, he says, is the reconnection of the donor's and recipient's spinal cords. He claims advances in cell and nerve engineering mean surgeons can now theoretically fuse a human spinal cord. We've become accustomed to science fiction predicting our future in the way of gadgets, but it now looks like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein may have been just as much of an early look into future of medical science as fictional t

Now we could all have X-ray vision, thanks to researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. They want to create a device that is low-power, portable and simple enough for anyone to use, to give people the ability to see through walls and closed doors. The system, called “Wi-Vi,” is based on a concept similar to radar and sonar imaging. But in contrast to radar and sonar, it transmits a low-power Wi-Fi signal and uses its reflections to track moving humans. It can do so even if the humans are in closed rooms or hiding behind a wall.
