Episodios

  • Live Delay - Ep 46 - Swaying Buildings; Ed Guglielmino

    28/11/2013 Duración: 57min

Swaying Buildings: Our feature set on episode 46 of Live Delay comes from Swaying Buildings. A four piece known as purveyors of delicious guitar pop, they’ve recorded two long players, including 2011’s highlight, ‘Bloom Beside the Freeway Moon’ which included the impressive ‘Different Now’. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane, September 2013. Edward Gugliemino: Know around the place as Ed G, Ed has been playing music around Brisbane for most of this century. Often described with terms such as avant-garde pop, he’s a rare breed: a musician with opinions and a biting sense of good-humoured cynicism. He’s toured around the world and is regularly welcomed in cities like New York, Berlin and Hobart. He’s played with the likes of UK Songstress Kate Nash, and he released a great record called Sunshine State in 2012. Today’s featured set predates all this, and we’re going back to the wilds of 2010 to catch Ed playing songs live in a suburban Brisbane backyard

  • Live Delay - Ep 44 - TARCAR; Wonderfuls

    31/10/2013 Duración: 56min

Tarcar: Tarcar feature the music of Tarquin Manek and Carla Dal Forno, who also play in bands Bum Creek and Mole House respectively. They weave some kind of space pop using a drum machine amongst many other instruments. I’ve noted it’s pretty hard to find out info online about the band – they’re that new. This set was recorded at the Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood Victoria back in June this year where the group played the Greg Boring LP launch. Other bands on the bill included the aforementioned Greg Boring , Gurner, and Free Choice Duo. Recorded live at The Gasometer Hotel. Wonderfuls: Wonderfuls record Salty Town was one of the best Brisbane releases of the 2012. An eccentric duo of Robert Vagg and Danny McGirr with a skill for detailing the ravaging nature of the everyday. Live Delay were lucky to catch up with the group when they played The Tribal Theatre back in May 2013 as part of Guilt Retreat. Recorded and mixed by Will Clark. Recorded at The Tribal Theatre, Brisbane. Airing details: Originall

  • Live Delay - Ep 45 - The Stress of Leisure

    31/10/2013 Duración: 56min

The Stress of Leisure: The Stress of Leisure – while actually a four piece band – is the brainchild of Brisbane local Ian Powne who has been performing under this name since 2005. A big fan of the concept album, Ian’s songwriting has moved from the gentle pop of the band’s 2008 self titled effort to the almost Talking Head-ish art rock found on the tropically themed 2012 record Cassowary. Featuring Pascalle Burton, Jane Elliot and Phil Usher – The Stress of Leisure are also an accomplished live act, and you’re sure to hear that coming through on the following live recording. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Branko Cosisc. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane, September 2013. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 22 November 2013. Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Branko Cosic, The Beetle Bar.

  • Live Delay - Ep 43 - The Slow Push

    31/10/2013 Duración: 55min

The Slow Push: Our feature set today comes from Brisbane group The Slow Push, a five piece who delve into the realm of post-punk and indie rock, with an eclectic sound driven by the hyperactive vocals and stage presence of their chief songwriter and front man, Chris Hetherington. The band as had a bit of a shifting lineup, but has settled with the likes of Meagan Chanel McKewn, Phil Driver, Scott Mercer and Dave Klokman, making up the current incarnation. They’re release a host of singles and EPs, and two long players – 2009’s ‘We Blame the Overachievers’ and returned in 2012 with ‘Misshappen Giants’. The live set we have for you today takes in a bit of both. It was recorded at The Beetle Bar in Brisbane in September 2013 when the band played with The Bell Divers and the Stress of Leisure. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 8 November 2013. Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Than

  • Live Delay - Ep 42 - The Bell Divers

    27/10/2013 Duración: 59min

The Bell Divers: I think it’s almost criminal not to like The Bell Divers wistful and thought provoking pop gems. Seven years in the making, their accomplished second record Ruins arrived in September and Live Delay were present at the band’s launch to capture all the magic. Featuring the compelling ‘Blood On The Breeze’ and the lighthearted fun of ‘Pin Drop Eyes’, you really haven’t heard The Bell Divers until you’ve heard them live. This is an episode of Live Delay not to miss. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane.

  • Live Delay - Ep 41 - Live Delay Mixtape #2

    24/10/2013 Duración: 56min

The stars have aligned and here in the ivory Live Delay tower we thought it appropriate that we do a bit of reflection in episode 41. Take stock, and relive some of the great moments in Live Delay’s recent history – nay, Australia’s history – and play some of the great tunes from the past twenty (or so episodes). There’s no feature band this week – just a mixtape of great tunes featuring the likes of RAW PRAWN, FORCES, GHOST NOTES, GOD BOWS TO MATH and heaps heaps more. It’ll sway between the bangin’ and the sublime. It will rock your socks off, take them to the laundromat, and return them folded in your bedroom chest of drawers. Airing details: First aired via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 25 October 2013. Show production and engineering: Darragh Murray. Thanks: Everyone at 4ZZZ and Beau FM.

  • Live Delay - Ep 40 - Naked Maja; Secret Birds

    21/10/2013 Duración: 56min

Naked Maja: Naked Maja are an experimental pop four piece from Brisbane who’ve been playing around the traps for about two years now. They’re made up of Cedie Janso, Chris Pearson, Emma Sayer and Scott Wilson and they call the likes of Stereolab, Brian Eno and Deerhunter among their varied influences – all influences that I can wholeheartedly endorse as excellent artists to name check. But Naked Maja are definitely more than simply the sum of their influences. They’ve clearly developed distinct musical identity upon a floating sea of musical ideas. And you’re about to hear what I exactly mean on this feature live set from the group’s performance at The Waiting Room in Brisbane from early 2013. Make sure you don’t miss it. Recorded and mixed by Will Clarke. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane. Secret Birds: Digital sound manipulator Damon Black heads Secret Birds, a musical project that shrugs off definition. It teases us with pyschedelia, draws us in with ambience, and takes us to some mythical plane

  • Live Delay - Ep 39 - Per Purpose; Mere Women.

    21/10/2013 Duración: 56min

Per Purpose: Live Delay is proud to have finally procured a quality live recording of Brisbane force of nature, Per Purpose. The four (sometimes five) piece have been tearing at eardrums for a few years now and are on the precipice of releasing their debut long player – one that will be something to be reckoned with indeed if this live set is anything to go by. Composed of Glen Schenau, Mitchell Perkins, Harry Byrne, Joe Alexander and occasionally Josh Watson, this recording comes from their blistering support set when compatriots Beaches visited the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane. With some overlap with early Drones material, Per Purpose have purpose and this is one of the best sets you’re likely to here on Live Delay this year. Recorded by Darragh Murray Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at the Black Bear Lodge, 2013. Mere Women: Mere Women are Katrina Byrne, Amy Wilson and Flyn McKinnirery, a talented trio from Marrickville, Sydney. They’ve been kicking aorund the scene for a few years now and broug

  • Live Delay - Ep 38 - Raw Prawn; Useless Children

    13/10/2013 Duración: 55min

Raw Prawn: I guess you’d call them a Sydney super group? Raw Prawn combine members from Holy Balm, Whores and Camperdown and Outs into one magnificent punk rock beast. They call themselves weird punk (so I believe) but it’s guitar music laced with urban depression and everyday minutiae. There’s some understated pop hooks lurking beneath these tunes as well. This set comes the band’s 2013 performance at 4ZZZ Happy Fest back in July 2013 and showcases the band’s excellent set of live chops. Recorded by Murray Paas Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Zoo, July 2013. Useless Children: Melbourne’s Useless Children are LOUD. Extremely loud. And last year the visited Brisbane to launch their excellent second full length record, Post Ending/Pre Completion. A three piece made up of drummer and vocalist Cinta Master, guitarist and vocalist Rob Bonnett and bassist Steve Patrick, the trio are an unrelenting force, emerging from their punk rooms to add in brutish noise dynamics and other sound experiments.

  • Live Delay - Ep 37 - Barbiturates; Kitchen's Floor

    03/10/2013 Duración: 56min

Barbiturates: Barbiturates are Roland Hlavka and Elliot D’arcy, two musicians known for their work in Brisbane psych outfit Cobbwebbs. This particular project emerged from eclectic rehearsal room jams that didn’t quite fit the CV of their former band – and thus the side project was born! Still channeling their DIY roots, Barbiturates sway between pop and psych, adding in generous additions of almost trip-hop sounding beats. They’ve release a bunch of music, but 2013’s Shades was the first actually put out in some kind of material form. Recorded by Murray Paas Mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Zoo, July 2013. Kitchen’s Floor: Kitchen’s Floor play pop documenting the angst-ridden narratives of Brisbane suburbia. Led by Matt Kennedy, the group are well respected nationally, with their second record ‘Look Forward To Nothing’ garnering critical praise when it was released back in 2011. This set comes from 4ZZZ Radiothon in 2012 out at West End and features a good mix of both old and new. It’s enlightenin

  • Live Delay - Ep 36 - Forces; Anonymeye

    20/09/2013 Duración: 56min

Forces: Described as industrial sounding dance, Melbourne’s Forces create hard hitting and mind bending music suitable for extreme partying. A duo made up of Alex Akers and Thomas Henderson, the group call the likes of Chris Carter, John Foxx, The Prodigy, and Gatekeeper amongst their wide and varied influences. They’ve also played along side the likes of Gang Gang Dance, Light Asylum and Zola Jesus – just in case you were worried about their live credentials! This is a banging set and well worth staying in to hear. Recorded by Murray Paas Mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Zoo, July 2013. Anonymeye (Andrew Tuttle): The artist formally known as Anonymeye (and now just going by his given names – Andrew Tuttle) create music that is part electronic, part acoustic and is difficult to pigeonhole. Anonymeye is partial to warping his acoustic guitar sounds with a raft of electronic signals, building pleasant and atmospheric noises and weaving them into a grander musical narrative. Recorded and mixed by Sky

  • Live Delay - Ep 35 - DZ Deathrays; The Garbage & The Flowers

    16/09/2013 Duración: 56min

DZ Deathrays: Dynamic two piece from Brisbane hit their stride in recent years, graduating from intense house party gigs to the world stage after UK tastemakers NME cast their gaze upon DZ Deathrays. Well known for their intense and legendary house party gigs and their outrageous music videos, they released the well received debut record Bloodstreams in 2012. This live set may be slightly more sombre than the usual DZ Deathrays experience, but still profiles many of the best angles of their recent work. Provided to Live Delay by our friends at FBi Radio in Sydney, this is a live set not to be missed. Recorded and produced by FBi Radio, Sydney. The Garbage And The Flowers: The Garbage And The Flowers are Yuri Frusin and Helen Johnstone and they’re known for the off kilter pop music that comes out at strange angles. Originally hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, the duo moved to Sydney about a decade ago and have remained fairly quiet since – emerging every now and then to remind fans of their esoteric

  • Live Delay - Ep 34 - Sucks; The Vasco Era

    05/09/2013 Duración: 56min

Sucks: Sucks sound like a pack of loveable brats. A three-piece from Sydney, the band describe their music as ‘shit punk’ – arguably a slight misnomer, as their aggressive music is highly listenable, arguably continuing the great Australian underground punk music tradition. Live Delay managed to catch the band when they were last up here, supporting Brisbane comrades Nikko at The Beetle Bar back in December 2013. It’s short and sweet but also immense. The band have got a forthcoming 7” available in October 2013 recorded with the help of Lincoln Brown from Housewives, but why not stay up and catch some of their live wizardry via Live Delay? Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane. The Vasco Era: Originally from Apollo Bay in Victoria, The Vasco Era launched themselves into the public consciousness after winning a university band competition way back in the early years of the noughties, winning over fans with their unique brand of bluesy rock and roll.. Gai

  • Live Delay - Ep 33 - Scraps; Screaming Match

    02/09/2013 Duración: 57min

Scraps: Kaleidoscopic music from the dawn of the 1980s, Brisbane’s own Scraps has carved out a unique niche within her local music scene. It’s no suprise – she produced quality pop music that just about melts people’s ears and hearts. Follow up ont he well received Classic Shits 2005-2008 LP, Scraps released the excellent Secret Paradise 7″ on Bedroom Suck in 2012, which included gorgeous sythn-pop numbers like 1982 and Suddenly Yr In My Heart. This live set features everything many people love about Scraps, pulsating drum beats, verbed waves of synth and Scraps’ own understated but sweet vocals. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou Recorded at The Primitive Room, Brisbane. Screaming Match: Rising from the ashes of the much-loved Stag, Drea and Sarah were joined by PhD candidate and buzzsaw guitar wizard Alex to form Screaming Match. They’ve only played a handful of gigs but have already set tongues wagging with their lively performances, catchy riffs and honest tales of suburban malar

  • Live Delay - Ep 32 - Ghost Notes; Harmony

    22/08/2013 Duración: 01h10s

Ghost Notes: Forming in 2009, Ghost Notes are an instrumental five piece from Brisbane who call the likes of The Dirty Three, Tortoise and Godspeed! You Black Emperor among their various and varied influences. They released two long players, the 2011 By Cover Of Night and the very recently released Hidden Horizon. The set we have got for you today features a few songs from the bands performance at The Beetle Bar in Brisbane back in late 2012, playing alongside the likes of Nikko, Sucks and the Keep On Dancin’s. Recorded by Darragh Murray. Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at The Beetle Bar, Brisbane. Harmony: A melange of souful rock and roll and gallow blues, Harmony are one of the best bands going in Australia today. Featuring the powerful voice and guitar of Tom Lyncoln (The Nation Blue), drummer Alex Kastaniotis, and bassist Jon Chapple (ex-Mclusky), Harmony also throw in a three-part gospel choir for good measure which gives their sound even more transcendental dynamics. Recently, they’ve followed up

  • Live Delay - Ep 31 - Keep On Dancin's; Cured Pink

    08/08/2013 Duración: 56min

Keen On Dancin's: Blending a mix of The Velvet Underground and The Jesus and Mary Chain, Brisbane’s Keep on Dancin’s have been regulars on the Australian live music scene for the past four years. An accomplished band having received much kudos from their immense debut record The End Of Everything, they’re also not fazed by the challenges of the stage, having played regularly throughout the country for some time. Live Delay was fortunate to catch them playing along side other Brisbane institutions such as Nikko and Ghost Notes back in December 2012 at The Beatle Bar. Recorded by Darragh Murray Mixed by Cameron Smith Recorded at The Beatle Bar, Brisbane – December 2013. Cured Pink: Dark noise from the coming dystopia, Cured Pink are an experimental rock group with a fondness for unforgiving soundscapes that remain unrelentingly fascinating. • Live Delay - Ep 30 - Wonderfuls; Totally Autumn

    07/08/2013 Duración: 56min

Wonderfuls: Wonderfuls record Salty Town was one of the best Brisbane releases of the 2012. Live Delay were lucky to catch up with the group when they played The Tribal Theatre back in May 2013 as part of Guilt Retreat. Recorded and mixed by Will Clark. • Live Delay - Ep 29 - Amateur Childbirth; Bitch Prefect

    01/08/2013 Duración: 56min

Amateur Childbirth: Amateur Childbirth is the stage name of Brisbane artist Ivan Matthew. Influenced by the work of Henry Miller, he’s an artist unafraid to delve into uncomfortable subject, illuminating everyday events with a cynical but earnest take on modern society – done all with just an acoustic guitar. Live Delay were fortunate to be present to record Amateur Childbirth when he took the stage at Tribal Theatre back in May 2013 as part of the Guilt Retreat – a multi-disciplinary visual and musical arts series. Tune in to hear some honest live music. Recorded by Will Clarke. Mixed by Dusty Anastassiou. Recorded at The Tribal Theatre, Brisbane in May 2013. Bitch Prefect: Bitch Prefect are Pat Telfer, Scott O’Hara and Liam Kenny and once upon a time emerged from a sharehouse in Adelaide, but, like so many other bands do, moved to Melbourne a few years back. • Live Delay - Ep 24 - YIS; Intercooler

    28/07/2013 Duración: 56min

YIS: Melbourne fuzz monsters, YIS, have been kicking it around the traps for a number of years now, bringing their sweaty pysch rock being a staple of the Melbourne music scene since 2009. Made up of brothers Simon, Andrew and Matt (plus non-relative Brownyn) the band released the well-received ‘Kingdom of Fuzz’ in 2011. This set was recorded by Robbie Adams at The Tote in Melbourne in March 2012 and features hit after hit of fuzz-madness, including an excellent version of ‘(I Feel) Repulsed’. Recorded and mixed Robbie Adams at The Tote, Melbourne, 2012. Recorded and produced by John Robinson of Beau FM. Mixed by M

  • Live Delay - Ep 25 - Warpigs; Adalita

    28/07/2013 Duración: 55min

War Pigs: Describing their music in terms of epic space and divine cut throat blues sounds fairly audacious, but instrumental drone two piece Warpigs are not too far off the money. Made up of drummer Brian O’Dwyer and Andrew ‘Poly’ Polydourou, they’re an experimental group not afraid to indulge in a bit of ambient noise. The feature set we have for you today is a journey into the maw of carthathis and comes the band’s performance at The Old Bar in Melbourne around about March 2013. We also managed to catch up with Brian from the band to have a bit of a chat about how important live performance is to a band like Warpigs. Recorded and mixed by Brian O’Dwyer with some additional mixing from Dusty Anastassiou Recorded at the Old Bar, Melbourne, 2013. Adalita: I really don’t need to waste your time spruiking the credentials of Adalita Srsen. The charismatic singer of Geelong’s legendary Magic Dirt released a fine debut solo record way back in 2011. Our friends at BeauFM were present to record part of her set
