Cashing out our ancestral bank account, RPG card game, and priority based goals
02/02/2021 Duración: 54minIn this audiojournal entry, I share some updates on what I've been doing this weekend, as well as some ideas that's been floating in my head recently. Tldr; I made some good progress on my EliOS through setting my priorities. I also made progress on my design apprenticeship creating a complex, accessible database with unique QoL features. I've also been thinking about what a card based RPG game could be like. Furthermore, I've created a metaphor to help gain a better perspective on the value of human history. If human history was a bank account, modern western society nets is just $3-400, agricultural and neolithic society nets us just $2k-4000, and hunter gatherer cultures nets us a whopping $50k-200,000!! There is a lot of wealth in wisdom to be had from ancient cultures.

Spatial Media is the Next Stage of the Internet
22/01/2021 Duración: 45minIn this audiojournal entry, I dive into what I think the next era of the internet can/will be: Spatial Media. Ryan Shultz calls them YARTVRAs, or Yet Another Remote Teamwork Virtual Reality App, these are virtual worlds that may or may not use virtual reality headsets to allow people to communicate remotely through virtual presence in 3D or 2D space. I believe they are going to be the next mainstream technology even before virtual reality and possibly even augmented reality becomes massively accessible. I think they have the potential to really change the world for the better and I am excited to work on this problem!

Skip this one. It's just me flailing in the wind.
21/01/2021 Duración: 05minI just wanted to document this feeling: Why do I keep getting to this point of feeling useless? This pattern of loss of agency, depression, loneliness, and losing my bearings... What is causing it? Where is it coming from? Why is it the way it is? What can I do about it? I often times feel overwhelmed yet underwhelmed at the same time... Just trying to figure out why and how to get out of it...

The Importance of Psychedelics, Consciousness, and Emergence in Virtual Environments
04/01/2021 Duración: 58minIn this episode, I bring together a number of 'ingredients' to talk about how we might be able to create more immersive and responsive interactive virtual worlds. I talk about Process Philosophy as introduced in Kent Bye's Voices of VR ep 965; Lex Fridman's interview with Matthew Johnson on episode 145 about Psychedelics; RCT Studio's paper titled 'From Rules to Emergence' and a number of other great resources such as the Webaverse community and the World Science Festival video on 'Rethinking Thinking'.

ChessGods - An idea for a more 'exciting' chess game.
02/01/2021 Duración: 21minWhat if Chess was as exciting to watch for the average person as it is to play? In this episode, I share some ideas I have for a more spectator-friendly and highly scalable Chess game. This was inspired by Jabrils' video "Fighting games are boring, so I tried making that makes you feel like a god". I think my idea is not only more chess-like, but also opens up the door for immersive AR and VR experiences with Chess!

Letting Go - The Art of Reinventing Yourself
10/11/2020 Duración: 21min"The tighter we cling to an identity, the harder it becomes to grow beyond it." - James Clear, Atomic Habits. In this audiojournal entry, I talk about the importance of letting go of past behaviours and ideas that we may identify with, in order to grow beyond it and reach the next level of our lives. I currently identity as an ambitious, futuristic thinker. That has been what allowed me to get out of the depths of depression I was in before. But now that I want to be the type of person that can change lives and provide value in the present, I am coming to realize the need to let go of that idea and instead adopt a range of things that I want to be. I want to be a designer, an inventor, and the type of person that can increase the quality of life of everyone around me. I want to be more. To do so, I am letting go of what I was before.

Goodbye, iSimu VR. It was fun, thanks for all the zombies. - 11/7/2020
07/11/2020 Duración: 20minI'm leaving the arcade. Today marks my last day at work. It's bittersweet occasion. But a necessary one. Or at least a good choice for me to push myself further. This arcade has been a great place to work, learn, and grow. I am thankful for my experience here and will always be happy to help and to hang out with the folks I've worked with here. Alas, it is time to sail onwards towards the ever beckoning horizon.

Drafting the Next Generation of VR - 11/5/2020
05/11/2020 Duración: 45minVirtual Reality in the next few years needs to have standalone headsets with PC-level processing power. It also needs cohesive content that allows people to immerse themselves into a new reality of possibilities and opportunities. And it all needs to be built on more ethical and flexible business models. In this audiojournal entry, I try and figure out what the immediate next generation of immersive technology should be.

The role of dopamine, variable rewards, and environmental constraints in design - 11/4/2020
04/11/2020 Duración: 26minKnowledge is as much in the world as it is in the mind. Psychological concepts like habit loops from dopamine, the evolutionary significance of variable rewards, and the nature of constraints born from our environment all play into how we can design better things. In this audiojournal entry, I try to connect these dots to designing VR/AR experiences.

Ranting about the lack of design roles at emergent technology companies - 11/3/2020
04/11/2020 Duración: 38minWhy are there so few design roles at companies creating the next generation of technology? Do they really think they can create delightful, lasting products without people dedicated to thinking about their user's problems, behaviors, and desires?? In this audiojournal entry, I talk about the need for a balance between designers and engineers to create truly innovative products. I fear that this lack of designers will create another generation of overengineered tools that most people don't think they can use... Can we not do that?
