This series is a standout for the writer and producers.  Yoshitoshi ABe lent his talents as the character designer. He has designed for a number of series. Two great ones, as mentioned by Teylor; NieA 7 & Haibane Renmei. Lain explores the breakdown of self and mental health as well as existential questions in a world where we construct new realities and selves to fill a ‘virtual’ space. Lain is drawn and voice directed differently baed on the which aspect of her personality she takes on. The Ramones were inspired by this performance to write their track “Pinhead.” The pinhead costume sported at Ramones’ concerts. The iconic phrase at a show. Any reason to watch this Alex Winters and Tommy Stern work of art is welcome. The titles alone are worth the weird. Stop Motion Stratacut clay animation at its strangest- rife with Jan Svankmajer nods. The title track is Henry Rollins. Yes that is a wooden Randy Quaid - he may be the best thing about this movie. Actually- these Rastafar-Eyes may be the best thing about this movie. They actually made merchandise for this picture- and they are appropriately

The series runs in 12 standard manga volumes, which have been collected in a few different editions.  Light Yagami - the human who gets his hand on the Death Note, isn’t exactly a compassionate person. “L” - the super detective soon gets on the case.
