  • Live Delay - Ep 115 - Ambitious Lovers; Baptism Of Uzi

    31/03/2015 Duración: 56min

Ambitious Lovers: Ambitious Lovers, having formed 10 years ago, have only been active for three of those years, with most of their activity happening between 2007 to 2009, releasing 3 EP’s and a full length LP, having broken up the same night they released their last EP ‘Winter Got Warmer’. Midway through 2014, an invitation to perform was a chance to recreate their awkward and raw songs. It was their first gig in 5 years and played to small but extremely appreciative crowd at the Waiting Room. Though they still turn up playing occasionally in 2015, you can find Joel, who sings and plays ukulele, active in Spirit Bunny and Feet Teeth. Recorded & mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at The Waiting Room on the 31st of May, 2014. Baptism Of Uzi: The band we are going to hear next are called Baptism Of Uzi. No, its not a gang of priests with machine guns, but a 4-piece band from the Eastern part of Geelong. Borrowing influences from bands such Black Sabbath and melding them with metronomic Krautrock rhythms of

  • Live Delay - Ep 114 - Go Go Fish; Spirit Bunny

    23/03/2015 Duración: 56min

Go Go Fish: What started out as a new project between self-confessed music geeks Scott Mercer & Ash Shanahan in 2011, has blossomed into a harmonious four-piece garage-pop outfit that goes by the name of ‘Go Go Fish’, adding Angela Hibbard and Murray Bowler to the fold a year later to fill out their desired sound. Sighting Sonic Youth as an influence, which you’ll get to sample in this particular set, they also wear the sound of other Brisbane pop-rock bands such as Iron On and Screamfeeder on their collective sleeves. They’ve just released their second EP, titled ‘If I Go Down I’m Taking You With Me’. It will also be their last release, as some of the members will be jetting off overseas to pursue other endeavors. But thou shall not be sad, but shall celebrate the incredible sounds of Go Go Fish. Recorded and mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at the Greenslopes Bowls Club as part of the Sonic Masala festival on the 14th of March, 2015. Spirit Bunny: Spirit Bunny are a relatively new group that formed in

  • Live Delay - Ep 113 - Giants Of Science; Dollar Bar

    18/03/2015 Duración: 56min

Giants Of Science: If you wind your clock back to Brisbane circa 2000, the name Giants Of Science was near inescapable. The four-piece blasted onto the Brisbane music scene with their noxious blend of stoner guitar overtones and fist pounding drums, they blew the minds of many punters who were perhaps unprepared for the show they were about to witness and made believers out of them. Sharing stages with the likes of Foo Fighters, MC5, Rollins Band, A Perfect Circle and Mudhoney, they became an institution and a benchmark for many bands to follow. Last year, the Giants released their first taste of new music in 9 years, with the EP titled, What’s Wrong With You And Why?, and you’ll be hearing some songs from that release in this set. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Prince Of Wales Hotel, Nundah, Brisbane on 17th of January, 2015. Dollar Bar: Dollar Bar formed back in 1998 when Dale Peachey wanted to get a revolving band behind his Guided By Voices and Kurt Vonnegut inspired pop songs. T

  • Live Delay - Ep 112 - Sparkspitter; The Royal Artillery

    06/03/2015 Duración: 56min

Sparkspitter: Created from the ashes of other Adelaide bands finding their feet around 2011, Sparkspitter was an experimental outlet for Thomas Capogreco & Rohan Goldsmith. Challenging themselves to create fully fleshed songs with lap steel guitar loops as a basis, Matt Barlow came along to complete the rhythmic picture by picking up Bass duties, and that band was formed. Their music have seen them tour the country and play with such eclectic artists, such as Thee Oh Sees, OM, Love Of Diagrams & Civil Civic. Recorded by Branko Cosic. Mixed by Cameron Smith. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane on 12th of September, 2014. The Royal Artillery: Starting up in the late 2000’s, The Royal Artillery have become a powerhouse band on the blues rock circuit. Led by guitarist Zed Charles, their sound is reminiscent of early Hendrix days, with a dash of 90’s riffage. Slowly but surely, they’ve had a solid following that seems to grow strength to strength show by show. This is a band you need to watch out for. Rec

  • Live Delay - Ep 111 - We All Want To; Dreamtime

    27/02/2015 Duración: 56min

We All Want To: Formed back in 2009, We All Want To is the brain child of Tim Steward, namely the front man of Brisbane institution ‘Screamfeeder’ to discover some melodies and hooks in slower tempo’s. A bulk of the material that you’ll be hearing in this set comes from the self-titled debut album that was released in 2010, and 2013’s “Come Up Invisible”. The show we’re about to delve into was recorded last year at The Underdog, and was the book-end to what had been a successful Brisbane Live Music Week that was celebrated by 4ZZZ and all of its listeners. Recorded by Matthew Hall. Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane on 29th of March, 2014. Dreamtime: Dreamtime are a psychedelic rock quartet that started life as a trio, with Zac Anderson on Guitar, Cat Maddin on Bass and Tara Wardrop on Drums, and saw their ideas outgrowing them, so they added Fergus Smith on Sitar and various other instruments. Their first self-titled album was released in 2011 and quickly followed it up with th

  • Live Delay - Ep 110 - Danyl Jesu; Cedie Janson

    19/02/2015 Duración: 56min

Danyl Jesu: They’ve only been around for a year, but Danyl Jesu have already put out an EP, last year’s “Celebration”, and are currently in the USA recording their debut album with Phil Elverum, he of Mount Eerie fame. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic Recorded live at The Bearded Lady on the 5th of December, 2014 Cedie Janson: Cedie Janson can be seen donning instruments for acts such as Naked Maja & Workshop, but for this particular show, he’s left to his own devices and paints an intense soundscape with very little tools. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic Recorded live at The Waiting Room on 12th of September, 2014 Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 20 February 2015. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.

  • Live Delay - Ep 109 - Soma Rasa; Kindergarten

    12/02/2015 Duración: 55min

Soma Rasa: Soma Rasa was formed in 1997 by brothers Bill & Dan Hazard along with Shannon Jessop. Over their career, they’ve released three albums and have shared stages with the likes of Moby, Fatboy Slim, Roni Size & Regurgitator. In 2005, they met with legendary LA hip-hop act Digital Underground to record the single ‘Say What You Say’, which was met with critical acclaim and lasted in the AIR charts for 12 whole weeks. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane. 6th September 2014. Kindergarten: Recorded last year at 4ZZZ’s Happyfest by Andrew McLellan, the duo in question are Mino Peric and Josh Watson. Between them, they’ve played instruments with the likes of No Sister, Sewers & Dag. This particular show was quite special as the Kindergarten was created as an experimental act exclusively for Happyfest, and sees Mino & Josh taking their first forays into electronica with two turntables, a drum machine and a synth. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at

  • Live Delay - Ep 108 - Bandito Folk

    04/02/2015 Duración: 56min

Bandito Folk: Bandito folk have been kicking around Brisbane for a few years now, the guys are all former students at QUT – where they all met – and have clearly formed a tight bond playing music all day every day. Josh Tuck is the main songwriter of the group, his songs take on a unique blend of melancholic pop and alt country. In a market saturated by groups that ride the line between more mainstream rock and indie-folk arrangement it certainly helps that Josh has a strong voice and he’s backed by group of musicians that really know their stuff. Technically speaking, they have a lot to offer. Of course technicality isn’t everything and the songs that Josh has been writing over the past few years really reflect on not only his own experiences but experiences, thoughts and anxieties that we all share. For those reasons it’s really not that surprising th at they’ve ended up on legendary Brisbane label Valve. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane on 20th of November, 2014. Airin

  • Live Delay - Ep 107 - Ceres; Sewers

    01/02/2015 Duración: 56min

Ceres: 2014 was a great year for Ceres, the Melbourne punk rock group released their debut album ‘I Don’t Want To Be Anywhere But Here’ and also received a nomination for Triple J’s Unearthed J Award. Not to mention that national support slot on Violent Soho’s sell-out tour. Ceres play earnest alternative rock, and they’re as equally earnest about how unfashionable it is. I’m sure it’s just a passing phase, after all we’re somewhat due for a return to loud guitars, shout-y vocals, quiet verses and big choruses. Give it a couple of years. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Mansfield Tavern, Brisbane. 13th December 2014. Sewers: Sewers began back in 2008 in Brisbane, originally as a two-piece, although, you wouldn’t guess if you heard them now. Their track Lineage on Negative Guest List’s ‘Wings Over Gabba’ LP compilation is the sole evidence of that group’s existence. Now the boys have expanded to 5 members – singer Shan Corrigan being the only leftover from those formative years. 2014 sa

  • Live Delay - Ep 105 - Dale Peachey; Greg Charles

    20/01/2015 Duración: 56min

Dale Peachey: Dale Peachey is a member of a few bands. He gets around. A couple of years ago his band Dollar Bar (who we featured back in episode 76) got back together and put out their first record in about 8 years. They’ve just finished recording a follow-up to that. He’s still playing Seaplane shows too. Nothing’s gonna stop Dale. When he plays with himself on stage though he enjoys straddling the line between music and comedy, like if Steve Coogan started a band with Robert Pollard. There aren’t many performances in pubs that start with the classic Snappy Tom jingle and end with a cover of ‘Its Not Easy Being Green’. Recorded & mixed by Ben Fitzpatrick. Recorded at The Bearded Lady, Brisbane. 20th November 2014. Greg Charles: Greg Charles has been a few things; he’s played abrasive noise in Blonde Cobra and 6Majik9; he’s made minimal sound collages under the name Charles Curse. But it was his song-writing that earned him the nod of the Grant McLennan Fellowship award in 2007. His music has a cert

  • Live Delay - Ep 104 - Shovels; Black Deity

    15/01/2015 Duración: 56min

Shovels In late 2013, Michael Beach, Adam Camilleri and Peter Warden formed Shovels. It’s a befitting name to accompany the songs that led to their self-titled debut, which received a limited run of 100 copies. One of those tapes made its way to Homeless head honcho Richie Ramone who didn’t waste anytime in releasing the album only a few months later. The album is a hot ride of searing guitar lines that I’m not sure whether to call blues or psych, paired with thundering bass and vicious wild drums. It sounds a bit like what would have happened if feedtime smoked more pot. Recorded by Matt Hall. Mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane. 5th December 2014 Black Deity: They sound like Motorhead by way of Venom P. Stinger, or, maybe it’s more Melvins via Black Sabbath. Black Deity hail from Brisbane, and I’ll let you draw your own comparisons on that. In 2014 they released a debut 7” thru Sydney label Sexy Romance Records, a metaphorically thick slab of pure dank rock. Although the influenc

  • Live Delay - Ep 103 - The Mega Men; Vision Four 5

    15/01/2015 Duración: 56min

The culmination of two years hard work, BNE: The Definitive Archive is a prolific look at the last 35 years of independent electronic music in Brisbane. Compiled by Trans:Com the book features some 140 bands and artists as well as an archive of 260 recordings. In terms of Brisbane music or even electronic music journalism not much else comes close to the sheer breadth of scope contained within Project BNE. On September 6th 2014, Trans:Com launched BNE: The Definitive Archive at The Brisbane powerhouse with performances by The Mega Men, Vision Four 5, Soma Rasa and Boxcar. The Mega Men: The Mega Men were formed in 1982 by Zhian Behm, Mark love and Lance Leopard. They were well known throughout the Brisbane underground party scene for their unique style and flair; a picture perfect remix of new-romantic fashion and 80s excess. They continued to play the club scene throughout the 80s and even performed on TV for channel 7; a performance that brings to mind both the pop flamboyance of Adam Ant with the cool G

  • Live Delay - Ep 101 - Yes, I'm Leaving; Unpeople

    15/01/2015 Duración: 56min

Yes, I’m Leaving: This year Yes, I’m leaving released their fourth album, Slow Release, on Melbourne’s Homeless records and in doing so they join a cast of some of Australia’s finest gritty noisey rock bands. The Sydney three-piece are well known for their pulverising live shows, in fact their latest album was recorded at their rehearsal studio, and that’s usually a good indication of a band that take their live sound very seriously. You can’t mention Yes, I’m Leaving without mentioning the Albini influence that runs through not only their music but their entire approach to being a band. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane. 1st November 2014. Unpeople: There are 6 members of Unpeople – no one really knows why, but it works. Unpeople are pretty peculiar in the world of punk. Sean Campion, who is best known for Multiple Man (a synth duo with his twin brother) fronts the group. Every show they play he stares directly at the crowd with this sick grin on his face, his eyes as

  • Live Delay - Ep 102 - Superstar; Mark Zian

    05/01/2015 Duración: 56min

Superstar: Superstar is the duo of Keiran Hegarty and Esther Edquist, who have been playing under the name since 2007. After a string of tapes they released their debut record, A Toast To…, in 2013 on Bedroom Suck Records and it’s been one of the quieter hits on that label. In 2015 they’ll release their keenly anticipated second LP, Table For Tow which if this performance is anything to go by will sound even more luxurious than their first offering. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at Black Bear Lodge, Brisbane. 19th October 2014. Mark Zian: You may know of him from one of his several monikers such as: I am Not A Nihilist, Scruples and Curlew. He was also the bassist for Brisbane band Knee Chin. Mark’s distinctive humour and his often pessimistic outlook on the mundane rat race of everyday life runs throughout his work, injecting his songs with a distinct personality. Curlew, his duo with sound and film artist Callum Wheeler, released their first album ‘Animal Urges’ in mid-November. Recorded &

  • Live Delay - Ep 99 - Martyr Privates

    13/12/2014 Duración: 56min

Martyr Privates: Martyr Privates began holed up in an inner-Brisbane storage shed around the same time as Queensland had its worst floods in 37 years. Their name is also a tip of the hate to one of Brisbane’s oldest hospitals. Recently they’ve been getting more notice outside their small town bubble, thanks to their excellent debut LP on Bedroom Suck records. The album has been praised for its wall of noise style production and tough yet simple approach to a-tonal rock. Recorded by Michael Whitney. Mixed by Joshua Watson. Recorded at HappyFest 2014, Brisbane. 22nd August 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 5 December 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.

  • Live Delay - Ep 98 - Cracked Actor; Morning & The Sleepy Kids

    12/12/2014 Duración: 56min

Cracked Actor: Cracked Actor are a Canberra group that have been active since late 2010. They play electronic pop that twists and turns with meticulous vigour. Their songs call to mind the more glitch-y, rhythm-driven material from Radiohead’s most recent albums. This year they released their latest single ‘Hollywood’ in anticipation of their forthcoming 2015 album on HellosQuare. It follows last year’s single ‘Lemon On Your Lover’ which saw remixes by Raus, Sam King and Reuben Ingall, among others. Recorded & mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Waiting Room, Brisbane. 19th September 2014. The Sleepy Kids: Penelope Skliros and Anastasia Loupis have been making music under the moniker ‘Morning and The Sleepy Kids’ since 2004. Over that time the band has been fleshed out with many collaborators; Christian Bizzari of The Girlfriend Pillow popping in repeatedly. In 2010 Melbourne label Albert’s Basement released a collection of their recorded works from 2004 – 2007. This year, saw the trio reunite for a co

  • Live Delay - Ep 97 - Liquid Architecture 2014

    05/12/2014 Duración: 56min

Alessandro Bosetti: Italian artist Alessandro Bosetti probes the slippage between information and pure sound in speech – the point at which language becomes music and at which music becomes a language. With Mask Mirror, the work he performed at Liquid Architecture, Alessandro uses a synthesiser to manipulate spoken word samples from field research, interviews, conversations and soliloquies to develop elaborate abstract live compositions. More specifically, Mask Mirror is an instrument that contains thousands of fragments of language – some words some only syllables – that have been arranged into categories. Each key on his keyboard corresponds to a different category and when pressed will produce a random word or sound corresponding to that category. Alessandro responds to the instrument – that is also uses his voice – in real-time and the results are often intriguing and also humorous. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at Liquid Architecture 2014, IMA, Brisbane. 1st October 2014. Bianca Heste

  • Live Delay - Ep 95 - Police Force; Clare Quinn

    17/11/2014 Duración: 56min

Police Force: With a name as hot as the beat in Queensland, Police Force combine thick tropical rhythms with blistering guitar damage. Comprising of members from Cobwebbs and Woodboot, they’ve kicked off their garage boots and flung themselves face first into a haze of glory. Recorded & mixed by Josh Watson. Recorded at The Underdog, Brisbane. 15 August 2014. Clare Quinn: Clare Quinn, a songstress originally hailing from Gympie and now based in Brisbane, sings on the conditions of the human heart: love, life, loss and learning. Channelling Celtic and folk rhythms and combining them with an indie-folk sensibility, Clare’s music is unassuming yet filled with memorable melodies. Her songs are underpinned with a lackadaisical charm, and suited to quiet hours with warm company. Recorded & mixed by Andrew McLellan. Recorded at 4 Layers of Zed, Brisbane. 29 March 2014. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 7 November 2014. Show production and engineering: Josh Watson.

Since the disbanding of his previous group, Ben has going solo under the guise of Pale Earth. This project sees him embracing the subtleties of his craft and playing towards the more experimental side that was always present in his song-writing in The Rational Academy. Recorded by Joshua Watson. Mixed by Donovan Miller. Recorded at Shedstock, Corndale, NSW. 8 June 2014.
