Black Button Podcast Episode 1 – Gin
30/01/2017 Duración: 31minThis is a branded Food About Town podcast produced by Chris Lindstrom and recorded at the Food About Town Studio. This is the very first episode of the new https://blackbuttondistilling.com/ (Black Button Distilling) Podcast! Owner Jason Barrett and Brand Ambassador Luc Thiers are the driving force behind this podcast and I will be serving as the host and moderator of the discussion. In this episode, we discussed gin! We spent some time going through the history of gin including its Dutch roots as genever and some interesting facts about how it became popular in Britain. Black Button’s Barrel Aged Gin was the spirit we focused on including a cocktail that Luc mixed up for us. He made a twist on an Old Fashioned with the Barrel Aged Gin as the base spirit instead of a whiskey. It was lighter in profile but with enough aged characteristic where you knew it was there. Great job by Luc and plenty of stirring noises captured by the mics! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/food-about-town/id665682441

F.A.T. Podcast Episode 59 – Vince Press
04/11/2016 Duración: 47minOn this episode of the Food About Town podcast, I was happy to welcome Vince Press to the studio for a run through some of his recent columns for http://www.democratandchronicle.com/magazine/ (Rochester Magazine) and about his recent travels. Vince’s column “I’m in the mood for” recaps around five different versions of a specific dish. It could range from octopus to lobster rolls to banh mi or baked in house pretzels. It is a solid resource if you’re on the hunt for something specific or if you’re trying to find a new dish to try out. Chefs Jeffory McLean and Andrew Chambers are very knowledgable about the local food movement and we bounced around all sorts of topics. If you haven’t made the drive out to Canandaigua, the NYWCC is a fantastic place to explore local NY food through the lens of tasting dinners, special events, and a diverse selection of classes to suit almost everyone. I’ve had the pleasure of going to three of the themed tasting dinners so far and each has been a solid experience from top to bottom. The dinners are centered around a themed pairing for the night – I attended dinners with https://blackbuttondistilling.com/ (Black Button Distilling), http://www.rohrbachs.com (Rohrbach) and http://www.redtailridgewinery.com (Red Tail Ridge Winery). The cool part about them is that Chef Andrew works with the people be

F.A.T. Podcast Episode 55 – Truce Release
10/09/2016 Duración: 01h20minOn this episode of the Food About Town podcast, I had three fine gentlemen from http://applecountryspirits.com/ (Apple Country Spirits) and http://www.knuckleheadcraftbrewing.com/ (Knucklehead Craft Brewing) over to the studio to discuss their new collaboration effort. Together they are releasing Truce, a limited run barrel aged combination of an Imperial Scotch Ale and 2 Year Applejack. This was a blast from start to finish with Collin McConville (Apple Country), George Cline and Len Dummer (Knucklehead) providing boat loads of energy and banter to keep the conversation moving. We sampled a bottle of Truce and I think Collin described the product best: Truce combines Knucklehead Craft Brewing’s strong (or “imperial”) Scotch ale with Apple Country Spirits’ 2-Year barrel aged AppleJack. The two products were blended in used bourbon barrels and allowed to rest for 6 months, through late winter and summer. The resulting product is a thick and hearty ale that tops out at 20% ABV. The two alcohols combine to

F.A.T. Podcast Episode 54 – IPA Tasting with Joe Bean
05/09/2016 Duración: 02h07minOn this episode of the Food About Town podcast, Ben Turiano and Jim Lake from http://www.joebeanroasters.com/ (Joe Bean Coffee) stopped by to taste a selection of beers from the New England region. Both are practiced at tasting and I was happy to have them join me to go through these eight IPAs from highly regarded breweries in Vermont and Massachusetts. The first beers we tried were from the http://www.trilliumbrewing.com/ (Trillium Brewing Company) in the Fort Point area of Boston. The day I stopped in I was able to grab the Double Dry Hopped Fort Point (American Pale Ale), Congress Street (IPA) and the Scaled Up (Double IPA) in cans. For most of the canned beers at Trillium, you can walk out with up to a case of each but keep in mind that their prices are slightly higher than the other breweries I’ll be mentioning. Of course their locations are in and around Boston so that is to be expected and the price is one I’d be happy to pay again. This as a good a time as any to mention to those that

Eating the Outlaw Poutine (tots, brisket, bacon, brisket gravy and cheese curds) with the team got me prepped and ready to podcast! https://i2.wp.com/www.foodabouttown.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/img_7748.jpg () We talked about how Pete got started in BBQ, making his own smokers, and what the most challenging piece of meat to cook is. We also talked about working together as a team and how traveling affected their life. Wade Reed, Jon Mervine and Jarred Foster and I had a bit of a laugh fest and a great time hanging out. These guys have some solid local ties: Jon Mervine is the former head brewer at http://rocbrewingco.com/ (Roc Brewing), Wade Reed the head roaster from Joe Bean Coffee and Jarred Foster a former barista at http://www.joebeanroasters.com/ (Joe Bean Coffee) and a cook at http://curebar.net/ (Cure). That combination is sure to make a fascinating place that features coffee, beer and coffee in beer as a key ingredient, not just an afterthought.
